Reviews: "Trigun" - Week Five [4/29 - 5/2]

This week Trigun begins the downhill action. Let's just say, you can't miss the rest of the series from here on. And if you haven't gotten into it by now, well, just give up hope. Or try again on round 2.

This week we find out more about Vash's past, more Gung Ho Guns, Millie and Meryl are taken hostage, and we get to see Vash's former home.

WHAT'S ON YOU ASK?!

4/29 - "Rem Saverem" [17]
4/30 - "Goodbye For Now" [18]
5/1 - "Hang Fire" [19]
5/2 - "Flying Ship" [20]

EDIT:They left in the breast grabbing

Wow, they actually kept the "boob grab" in, I was expecting another hypocritical edit. Anyway, Rem Saverem is an A+ episode, I love this episode.

I'm as impressed as you are, but then again, they left in when Peter grabbed Gloria Ironboxes's breast in Family Guy, so it's not that big of a shocker.

As for tonight's episode....well I'll just wait till it's over. I like Knives's child voice though. The whole crew seems to be pretty well acted.

EDIT: Holy Tap Dancing Christ!! Is that David Lucas?

I have to say, this is my favorite episode of Trigun. I remember watching it the first time it came out on DVD with my best friend. It's such a change from the normal flow of the TV series, I wasn't expecting it at all.

As for edits...I'm glad that nothing's been cut out of it. The only things I thought would be cut, dialog wise, from the entire show are the words "****" and "rape", and I'm surpised they left rape in. I realize this is ADULT swim, but the fact that they cut some shots of guns in peoples faces and blood wouldn't lead me to believe something as mature as rape could be mentioned.

It's great to see how talented Millie's VA is, I'm sure she's playing Rem as well. Does anyone know what her name is, and who plays Young Vash? Joshua Seth does great as Young Knives.

In a way, I like the backstory of this more than the current parts with the Gung Ho Guns. But now, the story starts to REALLY pick up. ^^

Wow, I was really surprised that they kept the rape line in.

Great episode, shows a lot about Vash's past and explains who Rem is.

Wow, Very interesting episode. It showed a good portion of Vash's past, and finally answered some questions i had been wondering about. Knives.... What a little bastard, for some reason he makes legato look like a saint.. The little bastage was corrupt from the get go of his childhood heh. Hope the series keeps up the good work. I just wish they woulda made the first 4 or so episodes as entertaining as these last few have been.

I agree, For me, he is the most sinister of all the characters. Where legato is Evil and proud of it, Knives is twisted. He believes that he is right and that... whoops spoiler... (Heh heh heh)

This is one of the most important episodes in the series because it actually answers many of the questions floating around.

What else to say?...

This is an important episode, but Tomorrow's one of my favorites. (Goodbye for now)

I'm not surprised at all. What's so bad about the words "*****" and "rape"? I mean, they've said ***** on Adult Swim before, on Trigun even. And the "rape" line was crucial to the plot, and it was a serious line. It wasn't at all explicit, and it's not like if Peter Griffon made a joke about rape. And the breast grab didn't surprise me at all. They kept in Bill Clinton grabbing Hillary Clinton's breasts on Family Guy. You people are just paranoid.

A sappy episode at times, but enjoyable at others. A-.

Knives and Vash's Past all here in the Trigun Episode Review of "Rem Saverm".

In a semi related note, the voice of young Knives is done by Joshua Seth, whose done Tai on Digimon, Spencer on Toyko Pig, and of course the main character of the former ASA show Pilot Canidate. I'm not sure who young Vash is done by, but both do a fine job of acting in this dramatic and flashback of the past episode. It was intresting to see that the brothers started out joining a project that was designed to help save the human race after earth was destroyed, and now we have even more proof that Vash and Knives aren't human, but rather something else, something that can be called monster and act with such kindness all at the same time. And a lot of intresting philoshpy hear to, espically the analogy of the spider and butterfly to how Vash and Knifves act. Despite the lack of action, there was a good amount of emotion and revelations, but yet again I still have more questions about the series. A

Easily my favorite episode of the series thus far cause I've prefered from the start the more serious parts of the show, which unfortunately have been rather drowned out thus far. Tonight's episode was a welcome surprise, hope they have another episode or two like this before the show is over.

Yep, Lia Sargent is very talented, one of the best in the business. A good director too. Rem is done by Bridget Hoffman, who I think is even better though, she's probably my favorite of the LA voice actors. She also did Lain in Serial Experiments Lain, KOS-MOS in Xenosaga, Mima in Perfect Blue, etc...

More on this episode..
I love the symbolism in this episode, along with the introductions to the Vash/Knives philosophy conflict.
Spoiler:
Here you have the origin of Knives' ultra extremist philosophy. Kill the spiders to save the butterflies, or in other words, exterminate the parasitic human race to save this world from becoming another Earth. As a plant, Knives sees himself as a part of the nature that humans will eventually wipe out. Knives is also subconciously terrifed of the human race because of how he is outnumbered, not only by the crew but eventually the pilgrams from Project Seeds "do you think I will be eaten someday?"

God, there are so many awesome episodes to come, this is the perfect episode to wet a newcomers appetite and get them ready for the final episodes
