SNL Cartoon (trust me, CCF related!)
Okay, as the title may suggest, did anyone catch the Smigel cartoon on SNL last night? Those who did know what I'm talking about and know exactly where I'm going with this.
Before I comment, Anyone catch it? (PPG fans won't be happy)

There's only one thing that would make me change the channel when .hack//sign is on: when the episode of SNL has a TV Funhouse cartoon. Sure, it aired after .hack//sign ended, but I wasn't 100% sure when it would air.
Straying back to the main topic: Tonight's TV's Funhouse, along with the Clinton/Dole skit (I had a feeling Dole would say "Bill, you ignorant *censored*..."), were definitely the memorable moment of tonight's SNL. Spoiler:

It is very strange for them to do that. I did not see it, though.

Anyone know if SNL needs to get permission from the cartoon character's creators before making these satires?

I don't think they needed permission. I mean, does MAD Magazine need permission from the people they parody?

Others aren't so easily amused. I know that Disney and Lucasfilms have their copyright lawyers on speed dial, just in case somebody mocks their products without permission. Disney would go to court before anybody parodies anything they do. And Lucasfilms is very stickyfingered about their precious movie franchise. They weren't happy about the Jar-Jar reference in The Chub-Chubs Are Coming. Heck, the only reason Spaceballs was made is because Lucasfilms didn't want Mel Brooks and company to make any merchandise based on the film that parodies the fabled space epic.

I remember seeing A "TV Funhouse skit" with Collin Powell on an MTV News Show. Beavis & Butthead are in this skit, and here's also A scene where one of the girls in the audience dreams up A thought cloud about herself in bed talking on the phone holding A Bubbles doll. As for Disney, and Lucasfilm, there have been plenty of instances where they've been mocked on "Tiny Toons", and "Animaniacs". Heck," Freakazoid" has made fun of "Johnny Quest" once. (Tobey Danger) And "Dexter's Lab" has made fun of "Speed Racer". (Mock Five)

Still wonder why I have yet to see Disney fan-comics from Japan yet piles of Star Wars, Harry Potter and LOTR ones. |

That ep is such a faithful reproduction of Speed Racer's style that I'd say it qualifies as a Tribute. |
