Some great Utica Cartoon news!

Fran Krause, creator of Utica Cartoon had some good news today. Apparently, Utica Cartoon, a great pilot that aired during The Big Pick and ultimately lost, isn't dead! This is what I posted on rec.arts.animation:

"I'm sorry Fran that Utica lost. My 4 year od brother cried when it lost, he was that upset. I liked the show, but the animation was only ok. If the animation style was changed, the pilot would have been superb. Could you pitch the series to Nickelodeon or someone? The pilot was very good and it would be a shame to never see it get made."

Fran's response:
"Sheesh! Sorry your brother is bummed. I would give him a call from Micah Monkey if I knew his number. As for the Utica Cartoon, we're either going to do another pilot of it (with Osmosis-Jones quality animation) or we'll do a second, unrelated pilot, starting this fall and finishing up next spring. Should be fun. In the meantime, you and your brother can play games on the web page and maybe rent some good tex avery toons until it all blows over.

Utica Cartoon with Osmosis Jones animation? Need I say more. Hopefully Fran will pop up over here and maybe let us in on what's going on. I, for one, liked Utica, my only problem with it WAS it's animation. If the animation was Osmosis Jones quality, we'd all be in for a great treat!

(Wonders if I should post this in the news section...)

Well, it's good to hear that one of the more favored contendors may get a chance to air after all. Here's hoping your chosen show gets the get-go, Vince!

And the creator sounds like a very nice guy. It's good to hear he won't give up on it.

Errr..It wasn't my chosen show, Captain Sturdy was, however, Utica was a fan favorite among many on this board, so I though I'd inform them. I would've voted for Utica Cartoon probably if the animation was better. I don't know, I still loved the Capt. Sturdy short. It had real potential.

Oops...sorry....thought that had been what you picked. Didn't feel like looking through the Big Pick topic...
...I'm sure most of the toons had great potential. Still, From what I've heard the picked toon was apparently the one nobody wanted...I'm kinda saddened by that.

B.B., it is really sad. I hope the creator of Kids Next Door totally revamps the series because the show will crash and burn if he doesn't. Then again, maybe it won't. Anyway, I thought Utica Cartoon fans, I think I remember reading Joe Tully (sp.?) saying he really liked it or maybe I have him confused with another poster.

Thanks Vince! Yeah, that was me, though I know that there were at least a couple of other fans here too. I lurk around that newsgroup but didn't have the chance to make the rounds yet today. That is really great. I've been kind of thinking about e-mailing her to let her know how much I liked it, and to ask her to let me know about any new news. I hope they'll give what the characters they developed another shot, I really liked all of them. I hope CN will give them another chance.
