Samurai Jack is going to be a theatrical?
After reading this post on the news board, I have to say that NOW I am finally beginning to be nervous for Jack. It has not even been aired and plans for a movie are underway! Anyone else think that Cartoon Network is counting thier chickens before they hatch?

It's possible. The hype is pretty big for this show, and there's a chance this could become CN's new #1 show. I wouldn't be suprised if they're already thinking movie.

I think they may be jumping the gun a little too, but it takes a long time to even start to plan out a feature, I think they will know if the show is a success by the time they actually start production on a feature.

Not sure
I have talked with people and the possibility for a Samurai Jack theaterical release movie is still a bit far away. A lot of people were confused when the premiere movie (the first 3 episodes) was shown on its first airing. A real movie is still far in the works. Look at the Powerpuff Puff Girls......they would have been on 5 years by the time their movie is released. Truth be told that many of the movie rumors we hear are either false or destine for cable TV (like Ego Trip).

I love Samurai Jack, but will it actually become the #1 show on the network? I don't think it would be as widely appealing as a show like Dexter or PPG.

I think an SJ film could hit big, and gross about $80 mill if marketed right. Then again...this is WB...

But it's also a Cartoon Network program, CN is pretty good at getting the word out. They'll run commercails for anything new into the ground.

80 Mil? Is that figure a shot in the dark? I can't imagine an animated movie making 80mil, but then again I guess I don't keep up on box office grosses for animated movies, but I would think that would approach Disney dollars.

Hey, Rugrats managed to make well over 80 mil for both flicks, so anything's possible.

I suppose....but Rugrats was already a merchandising empire when the movie came out. Jack doesn't have that kinda popularity....that's what worries me.

Yes, they are considered "flops" but because of all the money Disney spends on advertising, etc. for the movie and when it doen't do as well as they hoped, they end up losing a lot of money. |
