The Fans Speak Out: We Want Speedy Back!

Last night, on WWOR-TV UPN-9 (New York City), they did a report on the Speedy Gonzales issue. A majority of children in the New York area saw the Speedy cartoons, most of them Latin American, and they said they weren't offended by them. One child said, "There's nothing racial about this. It's just a cartoon and he's funny." Nelson Hughes stated in an interview that it's the classic cartoons that are being abused, and he's right! With all the PC all over the place, no wonder we can't find anything funny anymore! Go to the News section and check out the video for yourselves and give me your honest opinions about it. On a happier note, CN plans to air on May 11, Daffy Duck's Fantastic Island which stars Daffy and Speedy! Hope to hear from some of you soon!

Funny that you bring this up. Last night on Simps., Homer is speaking to this bloke, the bloke walks away and Homer ponders, "He was nice-wonder if he's gay?" Now that may not be a lot, but there's lots of little things in so many cartoons like that, that make inferences and play about certian aspects of society, cultures etc.
I know for one that as an Australian, and how they depict My nation in cartoon form is hilarious and to some degree it can be true. But only for a percent of the country. We're not all bushrollers, tree huggin sheep rearin bush men/women!
But we laugh anyway. Those Latin American kids see it for what it is-a simple, funny stereotypical cartoon mouse who tickles their funny bone with quirky antics and witty sayings-his accent and built adds to it. They see it for what it is, not what is being pushed forth. I think some people shoudl quit worrying about political correctness and the like and just enjoy things for what they are-not what they "may" be.

I grew up in between two San Francisco suburbs [Hayward and Oakland],
both with a lot of hispanics--an I never saw anyone get offended by Speedy.

It was more a sense of pride that they were getting represented on TV.

ALSO, I used to work at the WB Studio Store, and the ONLY clip on the video wall I could stand to hear over and over [and over...] again was Speedy during the 'Twas the Night Before Christmas 'toon, "I'm stirring, and I'm a mouse." How awesome [and CUTE] is that!!!

That's the one where Homer joins the naval reserve
*Employee at recruitment station* "Just fill in this form"
*Homer* "Hey, I think there's a question here which has been crossed out"
*Employee* "Uh, yes, we're not allowed to ask that anymore"
*Homer* "Wait, I think I can make it out"
*Employee* "No, don't!"
*Homer* "Are you ga-"
*Employee* "LA LA LA LA, I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!" *runs off*
*Homer* "What a nice man. I wonder if he's gay"

Topic horribly dated, and no relevant info added.

Closed.
