Here'a an interesting article on why Speedy Gonzales isn't shown on Cartoon Network.

It is popular in Latin America and they say it is offensive to them? Can anyone lend CN a back bone? They should air in the US then wait and see how many people complain about it. Anyone that does probably would be a statistical anomaly and would not reflect their ratings.

Tis a shame that we have to take such a "politically correct" stance on every little aspect of our lives. I have never seen Speedy Gonzales as a stereotypical character and think that these toons deserve to be aired just as much as any of the other Looney Tunes out there.

While we're giving out backbones though - can give one to Disney and give them the guts to show the Gargoyles episode where Eliza gets shot by Broadway? (Can't remember the name right now tho) It was a big character development for the character and was reflected in a lot of later episodes of the series.

"What about Pepe LePew? His chasing of unwilling females surely sends the message to children that's it's OK to stalk and attack them if they resist," he wrote in an e-mail. "Plus, because he's French, does this mean that all Frenchmen are sexual predators?"

That's similar to what I said to some friends when we were talking about why some Looney Tunes are not shown anymore and some still are.

Sadly, after Columbine, an episode like that will never air on a Disney channel. Even if they decided to put the entire series out on DVD, I bet they would skip that episode as if it was never animated.

Couple that with the fact that Disney believes everything must be kid friendly, even though the majority of the following of Gargoyles was probably in their teens to early adult hood. Really a shame because this episode carried a clear cut message and showed people the dangers of weapons - not typical Disney fare.

You know where that Gargoyles episode is headed, right? That's right, the black market. (Read: bootleg tapes at Comic Conventions) You watch. Speedy might suffer the same fate if nothing is done about it.

Well here in Canada both the Gargoyles ep and the Speedy Gonzales shorts do air when they air the shows here thus home recordings of them from up here might make their way down there.

That Gargoyles episode was titled, "Deadly Force", and really should be shown because it was a lesson that reallife is not like the movies, that guns aren't always heroic or an easy answer, and that an accident with those could be extremely severe. If anything, it could be taken as a lesson to prevent another Columbine.

And political correctness can, in some measure, be an excuse in itself, but when facts state that Latinos enjoy Speedy Gonzales, then that completely neutralizes, beats up, and mutilates the PC excuse! We want Speedy, and they have NO reason not to give him to us!

Oh, and don't go quoting that Pepe le Pew quote around too much, or else they might just ban him too!

If I had a time machine, the radical PCers would have been moved to a small island nation with no inhabitants as soon as they were born! I have been wondering why lately there have been no Speedy cartoons! This just makes me mad!!!!!!

Jeeze, this is like something Disney would do. Man, this is definetly a section of Cartoon Network that is definetly not controled by Williams Street.

If WS was in charge of Speedy, they'd probably have done the same thing.

So that's why he's never on! I never considered him to be offensive in any way, though I'm not Latino, so my opinion probably wouldn't count. He was always outsmarting his enemies, so I can't see how he ever portrayed anything negative.

How is Speedy Gonzales a negative Mexican stereotype? What is there not to like about him? I've been wondering this ever since I found out his Tiny Toons counterpart, Lightning Rodriguez, was cut out of the show no sooner than it had premiered.

As for the Gargoyles episode, I can only shake my head in disgust that this episode isn't being aired. It is foremost an ANTI-GUN episode. I weep for the future.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen a Speedy episode in awhile. So that's why!

Just how is Speedy such a bad character? Heck, Speedy taught me a bit of spanish when I was a kid! Because of him I can say "He's crazy in the head!" What character will they target next? The Pink Panther for negatively portraying panthers and implying that panthers are pink and play pranks on people? Bugs Bunny for implying that rabbits cross-dress? Es muy loco!

That's pretty sad if you ask me. Speedy Gonzalez is an icon. That's like banning Fat Albert for kids looking too black... doesn't make since. I find some of the shows on UPN Monday offensive, be they're not banning them.

This is the same reason Bill Cosby tried to ban the Little Rascals because it was offensive what Buck Wheat was doing. But he's an idiot with alot of money, because Eddie Murphy made fun of Buck Wheat, and if Bill Cosby was living back then he would have been doing the same damn thing. He realized this and released the rights. But it doesn't explain why he's hording Fat Albert cartoons.

Oh well, stupid is as stupid does.
