The PPG staff refers to itself so much its just hillarious.
For example remember that episode with the slumber party. The boys in the magazines include Gendy Tartakosky (spell) and Craig MCcrackin (spell?).
Then there was another ep where the PPG are making a movie with this director guy. How much do you wanna bet that they where not refering to their experiances with making the upcoming flick. There are just so many of them, and I don't think I could go into them all here. Feel free to add some. Plus there are probably so many inside/staff jokes that probBLY FLEW RIGHT OVER OUR HEADS. |

PPG is definitely not the only show to use that kind of gag.
A number of 'Pinky and the Brain' and 'Animaniacs' eps include caricatures of the staff in bit parts. Sometimes they even got to do their own voices. |

"Film Flam" in-joke
Really, the biggest in-joke was how much the director sounded like Phil Silvers...or to be more precise, Top Cat's Silvers-like intonations. A lot of Hanna-Barbera shows seems to self-reference that way:
*in one ep of Dexter's Laboratory, a bearded Dex passes George Jetson and Fred Flinstone on the street *in another, we see Dex's father talking to the neighbor, who looks a lot like Barney Rubble *Johnny Bravo meets Scooby Doo (and Speed Buggy) *an elderly Dexter appears in an I.M. Weasel short, along with an old Johnny Quest, Hadji, and Baba Louie I wondered if they got the original actor who did TC for the director's part, or found someone else who was an exact vocal match? |

Also, Jim (the kid who's having a birthday party in PPG's Mime For A Change) is a staffer. He's also appeared in a Dexter, but I forget which.

Larry Huber is a big cheese for McCracken and Tartakovsky, so he turns up a lot, too -witness Dex's Huber Elementary. Meanwhile, Johnny Bravo lives in Arons City, for Rich Arons, who appeared as a Picasso in the Animaniacs' "No Pain, No Painting."
The Mayor demands the whereabouts on "Genndy McCracken" in "Collect Her," too. Dexter can be seen very briefly in "Criss Cross Crisis" and in whatever one they're napping at school. George Jetson appears in long shots a lot. |

I just remembered, when Dexter's dad watches golf, one of the players is referred to as McCracken. This is the same one that Belch says has Barney Rubble, it also has Betty (she was the one on the phone with Mom, you see her after Dad binds and gags her)
The cats from Top Cat are in the PPG with the monster looking for his kitty, it is called Catastrophe. Look for when all of the cats are called by Bubbles. Dexter appeared in one of the first PPG episodes too, in Ms. Keane's class. Fred and Barney were robbers in one ep, I think they were called the Barefoot gang, they were disguised but you could tell it was them.. Lots of others cartoon cameos too, I'm sure. |

George Jetson is a resident of Townsvile; we see him there so much. He also was in TTA, Ep.#4 You Asked For It / Duck out of Luck, in which he & Mr. Spacely were among the stuff thrown @ Duck Kong. Then there were the Santa Ana Barbarians (Hanna-Barberians?) from the opening of TTA Ep.#20 The Acme Bowl, also having cameos by Superman-esque peoples, & a bunch of Woody Woodpeckers.

Aladdin's 2 directors show up in a crowd scene, giving expositional dialogue on Princess Jasmine's unrelenting rejection of all her suitors.
The BeatleToons book mentions that some staff members from one of the production houses had some cameos on the show. There's also mention of one of the Aussie animators (Eric Porter) having "made a film short using his character, Willy Wombat." Which really has nothing to do with this topic, but...
