Great article. I have to agree with what was said about seasons 4 and 5; it's an utter travesty what the show was reduced to. However, I disagree that the overboard random quirkiness of season 3 was a shortcoming. It may be that I was at the peak of my Spongebob "super fandom," when season 3 was airing, but I just LOVE those episodes. They just couldn't get any better. It was a small divergence from what season 1 and 2 were, but nothing near as uncalled for as 4 and so-on.

I should clarify that I really don't hate season 3. The Algae's Always Greener, Chocolate with Nuts, One Krabs' Trash, Can You Spare a Dime and others are as great as the best episodes of Season 1 and 2. In fact, if "Ugh" never existed, I wouldn't even have any reason to be so down on Patchy. It's just that the writing becomes uneven in Season 3, which opens the floodgates for the excesses of Season 4 and 5.

Also, season 3 contains THE funniest ending joke of any SpongeBob episode:

"WEENIE HUT GENERAL?!"

Nice review. Pretty much sums up my feelings about seasons 1-5. I'm glad someone finally managed to review season 4 without calling it awful - Patrick was "insufferable" in season four, but the rest was somewhat entertaining. It doesn't live up to the prior seasons, but, still ... not terrible.

I do disagree with this statement, though:
