Ted "DarkLantern" Sterling has passed away, 1962 - 2009

Roger Sterling informed me this morning that his father Ted Sterling, known as "DarkLantern" here on toonzone, passed away last month. Ted passed away on October 23rd, 2009 due to pneumonia, which he contracted while recovering from the H1N1 flu.

Ted's son wanted me to pass along how much "DarkLantern" cherished the great solace he found in participating in this community, enjoying the ability to share his work and interests with others. Ted "DarkLantern" Sterling was a valued and beloved member, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family in this difficult time.

Roger Sterling and his loved ones will be in my thoughts during this difficult time, no question, as will the memory of his father. "DarkLantern" will be sorely missed.

May he rest in peace.

I didn't talk to him much, but it's always sad to lose a member of the community.

Descanse en Paz.

DL has been an invaluable source of information back when I was doing DCAU-related interviews for Comics2Film. Both he and "nothing" would provide me with intel on upcoming storylines, which helped me make my interviewees feel more at ease and not have to worry about spoiling anything to me, since I already knew. DL also pointed me in the right direction on setting up my recent interview with Shannon Farnon, my "holy grail" of voice actor interviews which ended up being the easiest interview I had ever arranged.

So thanks, DL. I will miss you.

I loved that guy.

I think the thing I remembered most about him was the fact that he used to put these elaborate secret messages in his posts about JLU which were actually spoilers to where the show was headed. I laughed when he admitted that he stopped doing them after awhile because not only had nobody decoded them but nobody even seemed to be aware they existed.

He was such a valued member of this community. RIP.

I didn't know DL but that's a shame to know that he went so young.

Vaya con Dios Ted.

Re: DL R.I.P.

I met DL when he came to my Super Friends website shorty after I made it live.

It's hard to believe he's really gone.

R.I.P. old friend.

This is really sad. While I never was in a lot of discussions with DarkLantern, it sounds like he was quite active in this part of the forum and more importantly, that he was a nice person. It's just so sad that he passed on so young. Rest in peace, DarkLantern. I hope that he feels only happiness right now and that all of his friends and family members are able to get through this emotionally hard time.

I haven't been a very active member of this community lately, but I'm getting back into it and I always liked a good DarkLantern post. I didn't always know what he was talking about, but I knew it meant something and was always glad I was able to read it (even if I never figured it out ).

I will most certainly miss him popping up and I want to thank his family for sharing him and this news with us.

I am so grateful to Ted for all his contributions here on the site. He gave us so much more than just fun little insights, and I'm so deeply saddened to hear that he'll no longer be with us.

I think I just replied to an old post of his yesterday. I can't believe this.

Thank you for letting us know. Maybe we can set up some kind of donation fund so those of us here at the website can send a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the community, or something else that might show his loved ones that he was a friend that mattered to us and will be very deeply missed.

One of my finest memories of reading and discussing about Justice League on this board was always reading DarkLanterns posts. Always trying to unravel the mysteries behind his posts. Then when he had something to say, it was always very informative and very interesting to say. He will be missed, he was a vital part of our forum.

Thank you and rest in peace.
