Toon Zone Talkback - "Saturday Morning Cartoons: The 1970s Vol. 2"

This is the talkback thread for "Saturday Morning Cartoons: The 1970s Vol. 2": The Nightmare Continues.

I can't even REMEMBER most of these cartoons. I remember the classics well enough, like the Tom & Jerry and Looney Tunes stuff. I remember watching episodes of stuff like Grape Ape, Yogi's Gang, Chan Clan, and Inch High Private Eye, but I can't for the life of me remember a single thing about any of the shows, and perhaps that's not such a bad thing.

I am fairly certain I would have watched Valley of the Dinosaurs if I was aware of it, so that one must have passed me by.

I do remember that Filmation Batman show with Adam West and Burt Ward, though. The strongest memories I have are one episode where the Joker spelled out his name as part of his crimes, and the final "R" was for Robin (of course), and another where some weirdo doctor with a gurgling speech impediment had figured out how to remotely control a shark ("Shark 2, push the bubble up"), and where Robin had to use CB talk to send a secret message to Commissioner Gordon ("Smokey Bear Winston" was the clue that it was for CG, since "Smokey Bear" was a cop and Winston was CG's middle name).

>sigh< It was the 70's, all right.

Something I meant to say in the review:

If they're going to do these Saturday Morning sets, they ought to take a page from TV Land and stick in some retro commercials too, try to recapitulate an actual 1970s Saturday Morning experience.

It would be neat if they avoided some of the more well-known period commercials (like Slinky and Mikey) for ads that had a contemporary resonance. When I was seven I woulda killed for this. Nowadays you'd just buy 'em an iPhone.

I'd like to have period network idents as well as In the News back as well. Because of ownership issues, sadly, they doubtless couldn't get "Schoolhouse Rock."

Shazzan. I HATED that cartoon with a passion. Mostly cause of the genie's laugh. Just got on my nerves.

Actually, James Gordon's middle name was Wellington, not Winston. I remember that particular episode, now that you brought it up, Ed.
