Toon Zone Talkback - MTV Developing "The Awesomes" Animated Series with SNL Alums
This is the talkback thread for MTV Developing "The Awesomes" Animated Series with SNL Alums.
Great! I can't wait to watch two episodes, repeatedly miss it as it bounces around the schedule without warning (being replaced with a Real World marathon), and then gets cancelled for low ratings because nobody knows when it's on! |

From what I've heard, DJ and the Fro has been getting really good ratings for an MTV animated series, so the success of that show might help MTV widen its animation slate.

did they learn nothing from the 'sit down, shut up' debacle?

That show aired on FOX, and only had 3 or 4 episodes air before being canned. I blame its failure on FOX for not allowing the entire season to air, not the show.

but it's another celeb driven animated show. i assume you liked 'sit down.' i didn't and predicted that cancellation. i don't blame fox. i blame the creators. it was a copycat show that didn't translate well to american audiences. not that i want this new show to fail, but they need to learn the lessons from similar past failed ventures, no matter the network.

It wasn't a celeb driven show at all. A celeb driven show involves a gimmicky usually has-been celebrity. "Stripperella" for example. I hate celeb driven shows but SDSU was definitely not.

what i mean is that celebs were involved in all aspects of the creation of the show. from the production to the voice acting. almost to the point of the names attached to the show were more important than the content of the show itself. that's where marketing failed and even still, the show just wasn't funny at all. mtv would be wise to market the CONTENT, not the celeb attachment. cuz at the end of the day, you can have all the a-listers you want, if the story and acting suck, if it ain't funny, etc, it'll fail. celebs bring buzz, no doubt, but they can't save something that's not good to begin with.
i do look forward to the awesomes but i just hope it lives up to its namesake. there really aren't very many new standout shows this year so far. i'd say gary unmarried and fringe, amongst a few others, are the best new scripted shows in a while. i watch tv from all over the world and i've seen more crap than good stuff. probably 80% crap is what i've seen. maybe more. but it's refreshing to see a good new show. just doesn't happen often these days. |
