Robert Zemeckis and Jim Carrey to do CGI A Christmas Carol

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=21752

In the same style as Polar Express and Beowulf apparantly.

Oh, good god. But I suppose it was inevitable. Everyone from Mr. Magoo and the Muppets have done a version. So why not do it with a cast of CGI-generated zombies? But just the same: Bleah!

Dear UK,

You're people are part of the big piracy problem. Please be prepaired to receive a Bobby at every door so they can search your house...

Translation: We're Hollywood, b$$$$$s...we can do whatever we want

That's the response you'd most likely get. Hollywood is full of idiocy and are just waiting for the chance to make A Christmas Carol 2, where Scrooge goes back to the dark side, or a Prequal of a Christmas Story, telling us how Scrooge grew up to be evil .

What I would prefer is a new live action Christmas Carol directed by Tim Burton or someone, with a well versed thespian in the Scrooge role.

No, not Burton! After having to go through his Willy Wonka, I'd prefer it if he sticks to his own ideas rather than adapt pre-existing stories.

I don't know... if Zemeckis is behind this, it can't be too bad. I like a majority of his films. Even The Polar Express wasn't too bad.

I can't see too many people paying to see on the big screen something they've already seen a million times. This is beyond just a remake. This is A Christmas Carol, the king of them!

The rationale must be that Christmas movies always make money (hence there have been more of them in the past few years). But the last big one was Muppet Christmas Carol, and that had the Muppets in their prime. This is a CGI Carrey, and that's not enough.

That's true, but don't forget that in the right hands adaptations can be well done. And Zemeckis is certainly no amateur when it comes to this kind of thing. I personally thought The Polar Express was the greatest holiday film to come out in almost a decade. If anyone could pull off a project like this, it'd have to be Zemeckis.

If nothing else, the Alan Silvestri score will be fantastic.

Sigh... As cool as Beowulf looks, we simply don't need another Christmas Carol. Especially one with Jim Carrey as Scrooge.

Re: Jim Carrey as Scrooge.

If you want to see how Jim "I-don't-need-a-director-'cause-everything-I-do-is-right" Carrey transforms a bitter, smoldering, perpetually angry, Christmas-hating curmudgeon into a flamboyant, noisy, over-the-top, quasi-gay spazz, watch how he raped my memory of How The Grinch Stole Christmas. That should cure you of any impulse you may have had to see this movie, animated or not.

Which is already covered in the original itself. Seriously, though, I think there actually is a novel, written many years later, that is a prequel and focuses more in depth at what made Scrooge..... Scrooge.

I can't imagine it being better than 1984's A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott (the best version, IMO) or even Scrooged, but with Zemeckis involved, I'm more than willing to give it a chance.

My opinion as of right now...

"Don't watch the CGI Movie. Read the book. It's from a far better writer."

Jim Carrey wasn't in the Polar Express...
