TT short story: Tofu Trouble

Okay, In my Comm. Arts class, we had to write a mystery story, and this is what I came up with:

Beastboy’s eyes opened slowly. He drowsily got out of his bed. He shot a glance at his clock. It was 8:30 A.M., the usual time that he got up. All the other Titians were probably awake. He walked out of his room. There was no one in the hallway except him. He figured that they were all in the main room.

Beastboy walked to the main room to see Cyborg making waffles and bacon. Raven was reading one of her old books, and Robin was trying to teach Starfire how to play game station.

“You hold the controller like this,” Robin was explaining to Starfire.

“And what does this button do?” the young alien questioned.

“That one makes the car go faster,” Robin answered confidently.

“Oh, I see now,”Starfire said. “Shall we race the vehicles?”

“Um. Yeah, sure,” Robin said hoping Starfire would be some sort of a challenge, as the game started.

Raven was losing her concentration from her book. The TV was really loud. She was trying her best to focus. Robin and Starfire paid no attention to how they were annoying their friend. Raven lowered her book down and walked toward the kitchen area. She poured herself some herbal tea and sat down at the table.

Cyborg was whistling as he made breakfast. He knew that there would be a gripe about meat and tofu with Beastboy, but he felt extra confident today.

Beastboy walked to the kitchen area. He gave a big yawn and said, “Cyborg, can you hand me my milk?”

“It’s still in the fridge. You’re the only one who likes it, so no one has bothered to get it out,” Cyborg replied.

Beastboy dragged himself over to the refridgerator. He slowly opened the door and looked around. He became more worried every second because he could not seem to spot any of his soymilk or tofu. Finally, he shouted, “Dude, where’s my tofu?”

Everyone averted his or her gaze to Beastboy. “I just bought a whole bunch yesterday,”Beastboy said upset.

“Maybe you ate it,” Raven said in her monotone voice. “Your mouth is definitely big enough.”

“I’m serious,”Beastboy said frustrated.

“Oh, our friend is missing his beloved food of tofu,”Starfire said worried.

“I can’t live without my tofu,”Beastboy said. “We need to search the tower.”

“Where do you suggest we start?”Starfire asked.

Beastboy pondered for a moment. He shot glances at all the Titans. His gaze fell on Robin’s arm.

“Robin, take off your gloves,”Beastboy demanded. Robin paused, and then hastily took off his gloves.

“Why do you want me to?” Robin started to ask Beastboy, but Beastboy cut him off.

“Ah, ha! You have a rash on your arm,”Beastboy said as he pointed to the rash.

“And?” Robin questioned.

“You’re allergic to tofu! It always gives you rashes,”Beastboy said accusingly.

“It’s from Star’s Tamaranian hand soap. That’s what gave me this rash. Also, I only get a rash from tofu when I eat it. You know I can’t stand to eat any of it,” Robin calmly replied. Beastboy thought for a second, then said “Okay, then we search the tower, starting with Raven’s room.” Beastboy wanted to search Raven’s room because one, there’s a good chance she took his tofu. Second, he usually wasn’t allowed in there and he didn’t want to pass up this opportunity.

“No way,” Raven said with a you wish look on her face.

“Fine,”Beastboy said. “We’ll search Cyborg’s room.”

As they were walking down the hallway, Beastboy had an idea.

“Hey, I can use Silkie to help sniff out my tofu,”Bestboy said excitedly. Before anyone could say anything, Beastboy had run to his room. A few seconds later, He came back holding the silkworm that he called Silkie.

Beastboy held Silkie out towards Starfire. Starfire took him with delight. Beastboy left once again down the hallway towards his room. He came back with a small amount of tofu in his hands.

“Why do you have tofu, Beastboy?”asked Starfire.

“Yeah, I thought you said you didn’t have any more,” a puzzled Robin said.

“This is my extra tofu. I keep a little in my room for emergencies, like today,” replied Beastboy. “I am going to give some to Silkie so he knows what we’re looking for.”

“How much tofu do you keep in your room?” asked Cyborg.

“Oh, only about three pounds,” replied Beastboy.

“No wonder your room smells bad,” said Raven in her usual emotionless voice.

“My room doesn’t smell,”Beastboy mumbled to himself.

“Shall we venture into Cyborg’s room?” questioned Starfire.

“Oh, right, yeah,” Cyborg said as he opened his door.

Starfire set Silkie down and Beastboy gave him a sample of his tofu. Suprisingly Silkie swallowed it with pleasure. Silkie started crawling around.

“Your little bug can search all he wants, but he’s not going to find any tofu. You know I can’t stand the smell of that stuff,” Cyborg told Beastboy.

“I know, but you always like to play pranks on me and you hate how I’m always eating my tofu,” Beastboy said stubbornly.

“Okay, fine,” Cyborg replied.

Raven rolled her eyes at them. They always seemed to be able to find something to argue about. Whether it was what kind of pizza to order, or who gets the controller on their game station, they always were griping at each other.

After awhile, neither Silkie nor Beastboy had found any tofu.so they headed back into the hallway. They were walking down the hallway when Beastboy stopped in front of Raven’s room. Beastboy looked at Raven.

“Not going to happen,”Raven said.

“I’m not giving up until you let Silkie sniff your room,”Beastboy said. Everyone looked at raven to see what she would say. Raven sighed.

“Fine. Your silkworm can sniff around, but I don’t want you touching anything,” Raven said. Beastboy had a triumphant look on his face.

Raven opened her door and Beastboy walked in with Silkie. As Raven walked in she turned around and motioned for the rest of her friends to stay outside of her room. They all waited patiently outside.

After a few minutes, Silkie had found no tofu and Beastboy could tell that Raven wanted him out of her room. Raven and Beastboy, along with Silkie, came out of her room. Beastboy gave a silent shake of his head and they all walked to Starfire’s room.

When they went in, Beastboy set Silkie down. Only after about thirty seconds, Silkie was in Starfire’s closet making a weird sound. They all walked to him. Beastboy opened the closet door and Silkie lunged for what looked like a bowl of pudding and started eating it.

“What is that?” asked Beastboy.

“Why, it is my pudding of sadness,”Starfire replied, looking confused, as did all the others. Starfire picked Silkie up from the bowl. Beastboy bent down near the bowl and sniffed the substance. He took his finger and tasted a small amount of it.

“Hey, this tastes just like my tofu eggs,” Beastboy said in shock.

“Starfire, did you make this pudding recently?” asked Robin.

“Why, yes. I made it just yesterday,”replied Starfire. “I was out of salt, so I borrowed some from the refridgerator.”

“That’s it,” Robin said. “Starfire mistook your tofu for salt.”

“Oh, I get it now,”said Beastboy. “But why did you need to make your pudding of sadness?”

“Silkie is teething, so I made it for him,” answered Starfire. “I did not know that I had use your tofu.”

“It’s okay,” said Beastboy.

“I don’t know about any of you, but I’m starving,” said Cyborg. “How about we all go out for pizza?”

“Sounds good to me,” said Robin. The rest of them nodded as they all walked out of Starfire’s room.

It's not the best, but I thought I'd share it with you. (and YES, I do know Robin Isn't allergic to tofu, but I had to put that in there because my teacher said just searching all of the rooms wouldn't be that exciting so I made it a little different.)

P.S. I had my mom type it for me on microsoft Word, and then I just used the copy and paste, so if there's any mistakes, I'm sorry.

I'll try not to batter your confidence to much

This was pretty good. A nice, humorous mystery (Tofu!), some nice character work, nice use of mutant larvae(!), and overall it worked quite well. The ending was a little too quick though. When they find the pudding of sadness: from there, there's not alot left, it just seems to end very quickly.

Still, this was pretty good. Hope you write more in the future

Of course it ended quickly. It's a short story after all. lol. Darn it, I can't think of anything evil to say.

The reason it ended so quick was because the night before it was due, I was writing it and I was going to have my mom type it for me (because it was really late) and she kept yelling at me to hurry up and finish it. I was trying so hard to finish it, the ended wasn't as great as it could've been.

P.S. When I presented it to my comm. arts class (I REALLY didn't want to but we had to...) they simply just stared at me. Only about two people in my comm. arts class know that TT exists. (and one of them (a.k.a. my friend Katie) was out of town. (She really likes TT and when she becomes a member, her name will be Beastgirl17.)

P.S.(again) My other friend Kaylen is trying to join and she said her name is gonna be Raven71terragirl. I asked her why it was SO long. (cause She could've just settled for Raven71) and she told me she couldn't decide between Raven71 and Terragirl, so she used both.

I am afraid of the day when we have to write poems and read them in front of our class. I can only write dark poems, but no one has a clue how dark I am. It is going to be tragic. Oh well, like I haven't seen it before.

who cares? if people learn more about you they sometimes grow to respect you. i don't like presenting but if i have to i don't care.(too much) i enjoied that Rae37 even though it was short it capures the characters very well.

Yeah. You could use this but just say that it's Thanksgiving and Beast Boy was going to make a tofu turkey. Hey, it's a thought, and it's the thought that counts.

Hey, that was a pretty cool story. Theft-based mysteries are hard to wrap up satisfyingly, so you did as well as I could have expected.

Yeah, and I can imagine this story going down really well with your teachers...
