John Delaney's Sketch of the Week #16 - Optimus Prime
Sorry for the delay in getting these up, guys... I transfer all the blame to my boss for scheduling me to work
Anyway, without further ado... this weeks pic!![]() Now... before you ask why wasn't the Pic inked... well, John felt the pic looked really good in Pencils. ...but wait, there's more! Always a bridesmaid, never the bride... here's a sketch of Supergirl that John did recently (note: It's not a consolation prize... he did the pic for a recent project, and thought you guys would love to see it). She may not be animated style... but does it really matter? ![]() There you go! I'll try to get the Gallery updated on Tuesday (gotta work tomorrow, might not have time). Also, this weeks poll is gonna open earlier than normal... so be sure to check it out!

Wow, John! I've never seen one of your realistic drawings before. That Supergirl is really stunning! What project did you draw it for, may I ask?

Some nice changes of pace this week. You're right, the Optimus sketch does look really good in pencil. Supergirl is also great. I prefer this to an "animated style" pic any day of the week. I've seen animated Supergirl, but this is a Supergirl I haven't seen before. I guess this means we can finally take her off the poll. Thanks for two awesome sketches this week!

I agree, some things look better in their primal pencil stages, and this is a perfect example. Very professional work on both cases. I love the massive action implied in the Optimus shot. It really gives him a warlike air.
And Supergirl! That's a beautiful drawing. She looks a lot like Christina Applegate. Overall, way hotter than Alex Ross's version. That's a sketch any man would be proud to have up on his wall, and it will thankfully free up some space on future polls. This is a wonderful service you are providing for us, John. Can't thank you enough. -Terminatah

Remember, this pic of Supergirl wasn't done for us, it was done for another project, but John wanted to share it with everyone. It in no way affects the status of Supergirl on the poll. Supergirl will be flying on to the poll again, don't worry!

That Supergirl sketch is something else, very different from your usual sketch of the week work, and still very awesome. I'm interested to know what project it was for.
And you're Optimus! Man oh man, that is exactly what my mind pictures when I think of the peace-maker turned war-machine leader of the Autobots. I'm just blown away! And as a side note I find that the sketch is even better when think of it as what Megatron is firing at in Sketch of the Week #10. ![]() Still I'd love to see it inked. Someday...

Wow!
I didn't expext the stetch to be posted this soon, but I was going to suggest that Optimus be on the recieving end of Megatron's blast, I must be psychic. I can't tell you hoe refreshing it is to see a "hero"

I'm literally sitting here, mouth agape. The Optimus sketch is absolutely wonderful, John. So true to what he should look like. And you are absolutely right, it looks perfect the way it is.
But that's not even why I'm so stunned. The Supergirl picture! My goodness! My mother is an artist, an exceptional one at that. And she is mostly known for drawing portraits and such... this literally could be something she would have drawn. It's the same positioning and everything -- it's almost scary! Regardless, of the very odd, and totally interesting, similarities -- I must say it is an exceptionally beautiful drawing. As I've said time and again, you continue to impress and spoil us. I absolutely love them. And having the bonus of Supergirl was very nice, even if it was drawn for something else. What does that have to do with the price of cheese in China? It's gorgeous art and I'm very glad you shared it with us! Thank you! -- Uni |

OK, I guess I went a tad loco this week because I wanted the Tick to win this badly. But I have to admit it: I did watch Transformers as a kid, even though I can't remember most of it. That is why that Optimus pic is just.....cool. Someone ink it or color it in quick!!!!!
As for Supergirl, that is nice too. Never expected her to be so realistic, but this was for another project. But I already know Hornet's not going to compromise this for a real Supergirl pic. As for me, I am just waiting around, hoping one of my mail-ins gets on the poll this week. (if it is who I think it is, and I doubt it just yet, then it might be incentive to have the first anime victory since Spike Speigel.....but then, that is with several of my ideas)
