The problem is illustrated in both the original movie and DTV Movie 3 is that sometimes he goes too far and creates MORE distance between himself and his family. If anything, it's Ariel's strong headedness that has kept the Triton family together. She re-introduced music/love into her family in the third movie and created a more peaceful atmosphere between humans and merfolk in the original movie. If she didn't do those things who knows how emotionally dysfunctional the characters could have turned out.

Still the self sacrifice of Triton isn't something to be overlooked (which I did).

Baloo (Talespin version): He takes in Kit (a troubled 12-year-old orphan) even though having a child around hampers his free-wheeling, for-the-moment lifestyle. And he doesn't give up on him even after Kit's actions put him in the path of dangerous people like Don Karnage and Shere Khan. He also acts as a surrogate father to his boss' daughter.
It's hard to say Baloo is a "good" father since he can be really childish and irresponsible. But Kit and Baloo's relationship is still the most endearing thing about the show.

I'm surprised nobody has said Lawrence Fletcher, Ferb's dad/Phineas and Candace's stepdad. He's not there 24-7, but he is willing to help Phineas and Ferb if they need any. He even got involved with one of P&F's schemes involving a monster truck, just to help Candace perfect her driving skills!
