Mulberry "Let's Scare Mary Roach to Death" Talkback

http://www.platypuscomix.net/mulberr...e=1&seriesID=4

I dated this October 26 on purpose. MONDAY DOESN'T END UNTIL I GET MY $%#@ COMIC DONE AND MEET MY DEADLINE. I don't care what the sun says.

It isn't often I do an "educational" cartoon, but I liked the idea of someone winding up in Dixie instead of in a haunted house.
More on Dixie Square:

This third one has pics from 1989, so you can compare the rate of decay.

And the title reference explained:

The cackling cabbie zooming away, then backing up so he could cackle and zoom away again was what made this thing.

Man, Mulberry is fast. She went from being that taxi driver to the bum in under a minute! And she grew out her hair while doing it, too! You'd think she'd enlist Jack or Tiff, but if she AN do it, why not?

Whenever you see her with short hair, she tied it up under her hat or bald wig or whatever.

I thought it'd be funnier if each person was obviously Mulberry. Try not to think too hard about how quick she's pulling these off. She's Mulberry, that's how.

"It took you that long to make just seven pages?" Well, it's been an interesting week. Frequent work on cartoons just wasn't possible. Also: if I'd known part 2 was going to be that short, I would have cut off part 1 earlier than I did. I actually had to add a couple jokes to stretch it to 7.

Two things look like mistakes but were done on purpose. One, the main page still links to page 1 because, again, part 2 was so short people might as well read the whole thing again. Two, I am aware the Tin Man wants a heart and it is the SCARECROW that wants a brain, but the Scarecrow appearing wouldn't have been as funny as the Tin Man.

Man, this is funny! Part two is easily the highlight - it takes real skill to do random pop culture jokes and not make them seem forced, but yours connect every time. Mulberry as Reese Witherspoon suddenly morphing into Sweetums from "The Muppet Show" got the biggest laugh out of me. And I really like the way you drew the Scooby gang, too!

That was the question I was hoping you wouldn't ask; this story assumes you already know a lot about Mulberry. Basically Mulberry treats Mary like Jim Halpert treats Dwight Schrute.

I was originally going to have a first page where Mulberry declares she's bored and says "I'm just going to bother Mary Roach all day." But then I thought it'd be funnier if that wasn't stated, because each person Mary met was obviously Mulberry and the audience would be more in on the joke that way.

Lol! Scooby Doo! You drew the gang pretty well
I think the Tin man won't find any brain in that blonde either

Nice comic.

You made me spit out my drink from laughing. I hope you're happy.

"Two? Well alright.."

"Hi, I'm some bum person."

That's going to stick with me for awhile.
