Dragon Age Origins Talkback
The North American release for Bioware's latest sword and sorcery epic is Tuesday.
Who else is buying this? Man, I'm so excited, it looks like Baldur's Gate by way of KOTOR and I can't wait to pick it up tomorrow. I called Wal-Mart from work to see if I could get it early but no joy. I've really been craving a new immersive RPG since finishing the main story in Fallout 3. http://dragonage.bioware.com/ The only review I've seen is the 9.0 from Game Informer, but the way the reviewer described it as one of those games that you can't stop thinking about when you're away from it sounded very promising to me. The only games that do that for me are really good, really immersive WRPGs like Fallout 2 and Deus Ex.

I want to get it. But I think I want to wait for a price drop.
I felt that Fallout was kind of a disappointment and I bought the collectors edition. I think I can wait. After all I waited to pick up Mass Effect, and I got its DLC for free and paid only $15 for it. And it sounds like Dragon Age is going to have even more DLC so I think I'll wait until they release a bundle with all the DLC for cheaper.

I want this game so bad; I have Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, and Jade Empire (though I haven't had the time to play the last one) so I know Bioware can make a good video game. However, I can't really afford a ~$50 game, so I'll wait for Christmas or a price drop.

I have a substantial RPG backlog, but this is awfully tempting to get once that's done. Gamespot loved it too and if the depth is half as good as the hype claims, it's worth getting.

Well I just spent an hour struggling with the social network site to redeem the DLC codes. The site is just plain wonky right now.

BioWare owns half of my soul, so of course I'm getting this. Sometime tomorrow though.
And can anyone who has the 360 version confirm that you do get the extra party member right out of the box? I really don't want to spend an ungodly amount of points on it. =/

Considering that I'll most likely be busy playing and saving money for L4D2 and MW2 this month, since after Thanksgiving, I try to limit my VG purchases to things like Nintendo/Microsoft point cards since I do want Christmas gifts out of people, I think this game might go on my Christmas list, which is kind of shame since I do want to play it, and it does have a nice company behind me. Such a shame, since this does seem like a game that I can play over and over again like I did with the first Mass Effect.

I'm extremely interested in this game, but I can't bring myself to get it yet. I mean, I'm still smack-dab in the middle of playing the Fallout trilogy, and I own but have not yet played Mass Effect. And for that matter... I still haven't beaten Baldur's Gate 2.
But I don't think they particularly need my money at the moment. So I'll play it when the time comes. |

I have a huge backlog, too, some of it dating back to the PSX era (I have almost all of the non-strategy RPGs that were released for PSX and PS2, actually, plus tons for other systems, it's kind of ridiculous and probably humanly impossible to play them all). But I still went out and bought this day one because I'm that big of a fan of Bioware stuff.
I've just gotten through creating a character and playing one of the origins, but it's been fantastic so far. It really does a great job of drawing you in and telling its story. Graphics honestly aren't that great and the framerate on PS3 is rather bad, but it's not really a game about graphics anyway. In an era when a lot of RPGs are dumbing things down and getting simpler and simpler it's nice to see a game that doesn't screw around with that. The systems in this game are complex and might take a while to learn. It's really nice to have something deep to dive into after so much shallowness. If your idea of the perfect RPG is something like Final Fantasy VII or X, you probably won't like this that much. It doesn't hit you in the face with a bunch of flashy cutscenes and you control how your main character reacts to things. It's also not an action RPG even though you can control the characters in real time, you won't be doing button combos and stuff as far as I can tell. But if you like WRPGs at all this one seems to be worth checking out. It scratches the same itch as KOTOR, Fallout and Planescape: Torment for me, and that's so rare I don't pass it up when it comes along.

I have the game. IT IS INCRIDIBLE. I'm in love.
![]() Think Lord of the rings without the rings. Epic battles against hordes of evil with political intrude, etc. In a word, EPIC. Plus, this game is HARD. You really need to know what your doing and mirco a bit or your going to die fast. Healing is not easy to do and if you have a mage healing then that mage is not debuff / dealing mass damage. Being a big BG2 fan I have to say this game really does live up to the hype of being the successor to BG2. In fact, its way better than BG2 and thats really saying something for us fans. The music is great, think of the LOTR movies. The origins are one the best parts of the game. Each provides a lot of lore for different aspects of the world. Each is worth going through just for the origin. The mage origin gave me a feeling a bit like Alice in wonderland. You'll understand when you play it. ![]() I stuck with the dalish elf becuase I love its origins story. They are all great and continue to effect how the world reacts to you through out the game. Also, the party members are awesome. I love the commentary they give; it far exceeds any of the banter in BG2 or KOTOR. I'm serious. Edit: watch and read the gamespot review. Wow, they really LOVE this game. They pratically said its nearly the perfect RPG. O.O But they are so right.

Got it yesterday, and I love it so far. The story is interesting, even if not totally original; the characters I have so far seem fleshed out and interesting, and the gameplay itself is quite entertaining. I decided to go for a human warrior (champion) my first time through. I also like the dog and the little scenes you can get with your party members interacting with the dog.

This intrigues me. The Baldur's Gate games were the only non-Mario RPGs I was able to get into. I might have to pick it up when I buy a PS3 next year.

It looks so awesome, too bad I don't have the dough or time to spend on it.
BTW, I hear there's 30 Seconds to Mars in the game somewhere, please confirm? The trailer was so awesome with This is War playing in the background.

I would like to pick this one up, but my budget only has room for me to get one game this month and I already have “Assassin’s Creed 2” preordered – and next month I have to buy presents for people so I’ll have to put this one off until next year… …but then “Mass Effect 2” comes out and then… Man, there are too many good games coming out. I hate lacking money.

Hearing all these people with the same dilemma makes me think maybe I should buy it now anyway. I sure don't want this game to have weak sales... even though I'm totally getting Assassin's Creed 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and New Super Mario Bros this month too.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing. But I think I'm going to stick by my guns and wait for it to have a bundle with its DLC.

Reading the majority of posts here it sorta feels like this is one of those cases where there's a game that people have to at least make noises of support in the direction of just to feel like they keep their gamer "cred" because, hey, Bioware. But you guys don't have to do that, if it doesn't interest you enough to pick it up before it hits the bargain bin that's perfectly fine and no excuses are necessary. Play what you like, not what you've been told is good or "hardcore," and be happy.

If I can try, I could get it before December, since after that, I try to limit my buying habits to Point Cards, since they can't control what I buy digitally and I don't ask for that stuff.
