There's even more; I found a lot of "deleted scenes" material there was no space or reason to use. Like the original three minute cut of the coccoon scene edited back into Alien, but twice as long.....and it worked much better pacingwise, but now I can't find it which must mean YouTube deleted it. Bah.

I think most of this scene was made up on the fly and they just put what worked into the final mix. 'Cause this clearly doesn't work; Scott just said "walk like a crab and we'll see if it looks creepy." The rubber head bobs up and down and the illusion is broken. Also: too much of the guy is shown here, obviously.

If Alien is about fears, Aliens is about overcoming them.

As mucky as this movie is, it actually could have been worse. In one of the discarded drafts, no one survived from the first two flicks except the Alien species. The escape pod crash-landed into a small-town space colony, where the Aliens multiplied, inexplicably grew fifteen feet tall, and gained the ability to spread an "alien virus" that turned anything it infected into an Alien, including stationary matter. By the climax, the entire station itself had transfrormed into an Alien creature. The guy who wrote this was shortly fired.

That's basically kinda' Tryanids (ok they don't make people and stationary matter with a virus into more of 'em; they first convert people and stationary matter into biomass then make more of 'em). Well if this movie was made it would have made the rip-off cycle complete.

1993 was a very lucrative year despite no Alien movie coming out.

There was several Alien 3 and AvP games came out that year also (although the most notable games featuring the Aliens [the Capcom arcade one and the Atari Jaguar one] didn't come out till 1994).

Well one good thing about Alien Resurrection: it did make me want to re-watch Delicatessen.

I'm not a huge horror fan, so I've yet to see Alien (even though I'm familiar with all the big references to the series - the chest-bursting scene, the facehuggers, "Get away from her, you *****", and so on). However, I will admit that the theatrical trailer you linked to is incredibly freaking scary. Holy crap.

And then it's just sad to see how quickly things went downhill. Methinks if I do decide to get into these movies, I should just stop after the second one. (A mantra that can be applied to darn near every movie series ever made, now that I think of it.)

However, I must admit, the sight of Predator and Alien playing chess in a library makes me giggle.
