Welcome CoachMcgurk6018! I see you're a transcripting guy. Cool. Anyway, my favorite Adult Swim special is The Eltingville Club. I think it should've become a series, but what can you do except enjoy the pilot. It's one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen.

Saddle Rash was actually probably my favorite, now that I saw it again (...in the short timeframe since the last time we had this topic. Heh.) I really don't see why people don't appreciate this one, it was really well done. I'm not so sure it would've worked as a series, but as a special it owned. I liked it more than Eltingville (though, unlike bassist above me, I DID enjoy Eltingville...though I didn't enjoy Eltingville as much as Venture Brothers).

Summary: Saddle Rash > Venture Bros. > Eltingville

Rejected beats them all, though.

It'd be nice if I had actually seen it.

I STILL haven't seen Rejected. :( :( :(

Eltingville, then Venture Bros., then Saddle Rash, for me.

Isn't Brak Presents The Brak Show Proto-Adult Swim?

And I have to agree with everyone. Saddle Rash, Eltingville Club, Rejected, and The Venture Brothers were the only really interesting ones.

#1 for me is Welcome to Elktingville. One of the few specials that was done in traditional cel animation, which was a welcome sight. Plus, I got a lot of the trivia and references in it.
#2 would be the John K Jetsons specials. Most people hated them, but I found them far more entertaining than the Ranger Smith ones. How can you hate it when George Jetson goes psycho at Elroy: "IF I'VE TOLD YOU ONCE, I'VE TOLD YOU A MILLION TIMES!!! IF YOU'RE GOING TO STEAL, DON'T GET CAUGHT!!!!"
#3 is Saddle Rash, simply for the Home Movies-style dialog and situations. Plus the lazy villian and the armless hero were memorable characters. I didn't enjoy it the first time around, but that was because I was multitasking. The second time I gave it my full attention and loved it.

Ones I didn't like: -Lewis Lectures (had some good ideas and lines, but had bad Flash animation and ran out of material)
-The Groovenians (boring, and the computer animation has been surpassed with Pixar's work)
-Ranger Smith specials (I liked the trademark John K expressions but the pace was extremely slow, especially in the Boo Boo short, and much of it was lame toilet humor)
-Finkel Files (The rabbi was the only character I laughed at, and the animation wasn't very good here, either. Most of the humor was stereotypical Jewish jokes)

I never saw Rejected and Ventura Bros.

And yes, Brak Presents.... doesn't count because it was made in 1998, I believe. It was never shown on Adult Swim.

I'd have to say a tie between "Welcome to Eltingville," the recent New Year's special segments, and the "Wonder Twins" spots from not too long ago.

DEFINATELY Welcome to Eltingville. Alot of the others just didn't catch my fancy.

Venture Bros- funny as hell, good animation, neat flash, it kept a story going on while giving the viewers jokes that were funny. Can't wait for the show.

Captain Sturdy-it was funny and it had some funny moments, good have worked with one or two more specials, and it had nice animated scenes.

Welcome to Eltingville. It should have been a series, if cost wasn't a factor.

Can't think of any. I didn't like Eltingville (a truly hillarious opening sequence was stuffed by nerd stereotypes and unfunny crap)

Never saw that one.You don't want to either. It was too childish and way too optimistic. It was like an edited version of the 60's. That's why it was moved to Fridays. It's prefect for kids who watch shows like Billy and Mandy and have no will of their own nor any idea of the great shows out there.

Probably Night of the Living Doo. Everything else ranged from bad to mediocre.

Hey I'm 20 and I like the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. :D
As for my favorite specials:
* Saddle Rash (I think it could have worked as a series.)
* Captain Sturdy in "The Originals": A good superhero parody show is always good. Unlike the Ripping Friends, which was awful, this pilot did good in the vein of Freakazoid and The Tick.
* Night of the Living Doo: Hmm.. I can't remember if it was entirely Adult, but I found it amusing.
* Finkel Files: Funny, but definitely couldn't see it as a series.
* Venture Bros.: What are we going to do about poo-poos? I think this one was mostly picked to be a series because it is so much like Jonny Quest, and their top original shows (minus Home Movies) are all based on Hannah-Barbera shows. That's okay though, I think it will be a funny series.

Okay Specials:
* The Groovenians: I'm one of the only few people in the world that thought this show was alright. By no means did it belong on Adult Swim and I'm sure it didn't work for the Cartoon Network Fridays kids' audience, but for me it was mildy entertaining. I suppose this was just the wrong network for the show.
* Welcome to Eltingville: It had a funny opening and the idea for the show is great (myself and most of the AS audience probably can relate to this show.) When they went to the comic store, it went downhill from then relying on heavy nerd stereotypes and making several riddiculous comic book reference with the stupid Trivia-off. If they made that a series, I would have hoped that they would be able to have more material than just referring to other comic books.

Specials I disliked:
* Spumco Shorts: Long stalling and goofy faces just isn't funny Spumco. I'll give them credit for these being better than The Ripping Friends and Ren and Stimpy's Adult Party Cartoon.
* Lewis Lectures: Jack Black couldn't save this crap.
* Penguins Behind Bars: The worst special of them all. It's another special that didn't have anything innapropriate for kids, wasn't very amusing, and the show was for the wrong audience. Hmm.. this is like a short that was made for Life Time or Oxygen. Let's never, EVER see anything like this again.

As for "Brak Presents the Brak Show Starring Brak," I haven't had the opportunity to see it. But I would like to.

I know there's a DVD somewhere. But of course, I forgot where I saw it. Sorry.

Anyway, if Rejected had aired on AS, I would say it was my favorite special. But because it didn't, I'll go with Eltingville.

Hey I'm 20 and I like the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. :D Nothing against Billy and Mandy, I even like some of the episodes. I just think it's on the same level of simplicity as The Groovenians. It's just a fun kids show to watch when you don't feel like thinking.

Groovenians info here (http://www.s4studios.com/groove.htm).
It's basically a CGI-rendered cartoon on a "groovy" 60s-inspired planet. It showed on Adult Swim in November, but I don't recall seeing anything terribly "adult" about it other than the fact that Paul Reubens, RuPaul, and Dennis Hopper did voices.

The only thing I really liked was the theme song, which was by the B-52s or a soundalike.

I thought Saddle Rash was the best special. Great writing, great voice acting, lots of memorable moments (If he says anything about a message... disregard it). But if Rejected had been aired it probably would have been the best.

Eltingville was too reliant on the dork stereotype... but it had the Aquabats play the theme song, so rock on!

In defense of Billy and Mandy, I think that show does actually take some thought to enjoy... the concept of the show is really good, and the characters play off of each other in humorous ways. Some of the themes I've found in the shows are actually kind of mature... take the one about Opposite Day. When Grimm finally catches on, they tell him that because it's Opposite Day, their previous statement about it being Opposite Day was also false. Dropping paradoxes like that on children is pretty insidious, I think.

Regardless, a theme song does not make a show.

Case in point: Baby Blues. (What can I say, I'm a big BNL fan.)

Gotta go with "Saddle Rash." Any show I can still quote from today is a great damn show.

Then again, I'm a fan of that slightly surreal "Home Movies" style comedy, and I felt like it could gone to series easy. Never figured out why it didn't, really.

Maybe people were more annoyed at Sarah Silverman's inability to say the world "balm" than I thought. Oh well.

My favorite AS specials are:

Welcome To Eltingville (it sucks that it'll never be a series)
The Finkel Files
Captain Sturdy (it could pass for a Cartoon Cartoon. Hey, if Cow and Chicken and Time Squad got away with adult stuff that wasn't as harsh as anything on AS, then this should have fit in)
Penguins Behind Bars (it was just so weird, I didn't know whether to laugh, cry, vomit, or change the channel)
