Hey everyone,
This may have been discussed in an earlier thread, but does anyone have any info if there is any more in development for Cowboy Bebop? I know the series was only supposed to be 26 episodes long, and there was a movie, but it was such a great series, it would be a shame to end it. Anyone know anything if anything else is in the works (another movie perhaps?)

I've heard no, and possibly.
Hey everyone,

I know the series was only supposed to be 26 episodes long, and there was a movie, but it was such a great series, it would be a shame to end it. Anyone know anything if anything else is in the works (another movie perhaps?)You know, Spike dies at the end...
...not much a show without him... seeing how he was, you know, the focus point... so why you could possibly want more is a mystery to me.
But, I do believe the official answer is "No" for more or less the same reasons.
Note from Mynd Hed: This post has been edited to add spoiler tags. You know, amazing as it may seem to you, not everybody in the whole wide world has seen the end of Cowboy Bebop yet, and some people DO like to be surprised. Be nice to those people.

No. The creators don't want to make more, and a substantial portion of the fans agree that the series' ending is perfect the way it is. There are no plans on the part of the creators to make new episodes. All there is is constant rumbling by a certain breed of "fan" who is almost certainly in the minority, and from Cartoon Network because the existing episodes have done so well ratings-wise.

Didn't WS say that Watanabe is warming up to the idea of new episods?
Anyways, I have mixed feelings on this. On the first hand, it had a great ending. On the other hand, a second series would be nice as long as they didn't go back on the ending. In other words, maybe a series centered around Faye and Jet would be nice.

Only if the movie made millions of dollars, which it didn't.

If they did make more eps, I believe the general consensus is that the series wouldn't pick up from the last episode. The pushes for new episodes have sparked discussion of perhaps making the new episodes take place between the other eps, sort of like how the movie is. Also, there has been talk of sort of an alternate universe, where the new episodes use the same characters, but they meet differently, etc.

Awesome. The gang could live in Neo Tokyo, and Spike moves out to go to school where he meets Julia. Faye and Ed (who are both now teenage girls) try their best to win Spike's heart and somehow stop Vicious, the space pirate who has his sites set on Spike.
Also, I think any continuation of the series no matter what format would be more or less spitting on it.

You forgot about Jet, the manager of the dorm Spike lives at, whose always getting in trouble with the ladies! Laughter and spin-off posibilities ensue.

They could animate that 'Shooting Star' manga if they wanted to: it's a pretty good re-interpretation of the series and is a better choice than the other manga series which is utter garbage.
They also have that U.T story, about that Terpschaday? guy mentioned in Heavy Metal Queen.

Or...they could get the staff together and think up an entrirely diffrent original idea that has the some of the same qualities of Cowboy Bebop, but is its own show about something totally diffrent.

Baby Cowboy Bebop! The entire cast is younger, and with a new plot remix kind of deal.
Spike (age 3), is the loner kid of the neighborhood, and trying to keep his crush on Julia (age 3) from his freinds Jet (age 6, and sort of the kid who protects everyone in the neighborhood) and his puppy Ein, Faye-Faye (age 2 1/2, but in preschool already cause everyone thinks she's 4, so she acts like Miss Big Thang), Ed (a head of cabbage with a pudding stain), Andy (age 4, Spike's neighbor who's like the crappy kid that no one likes but tries to be differnt stuff to get yoru attention), whle at the same time trying to keep her from Vicious (age 3, his other neighbor). All kinds of hijinks ensue like big wheel races, fishing and camping trips, watching "Big Shots!" (with Punch and Judy, kind of like, um, gah, what was that show on Family Guy that Stewie was obsessed with; mixed with Captain Kangaroo and Night Court), and messing up Jet's uncle's poker game (Jet's uncles = the three old guys showing up everywhere).
Of course, the end of the series takes a really differnt direction when Vicious, after eating too much candy as Faye-Faye's birthday party, tries to bonk Spike on the head with pinata stick, but acciently sends Julia to the hospital, so in the final battle, Spike and Vicious end up killing each other,Spike dying by getting beaten with a wiffle ball bat, Vicious getting knocked on the head with a bowling ball and a ham. Then Juila gets out of the hospital but gets hit by a truck.
Then theres kind of an epilouge with Jet and Faye-Faye at their high school graduation, where they drive off together with Ein and the rotting Ed, and in the final photo montage, we see them growing old together running a gun and fish store.
You know you'd watch it and love it.
That sounds suspiciously like Tenchi.
Thank you for understanding the joke I made.

I think those were things that Matt Wilson suggested, nothing official.
A lot of people wanted a prequel series that covered the backstories of the characters. Again, just what the fans wanted, nothing official.
And that's how it's going to stay. Bebop is dead, live with it.

As I've stated before in regards to Bebop . . . the show created a universe that was compelling and textured with a variety of cultures and flashiness, this allowed for the genre blending that made it a "genre unto itself." I remember reading something about the time and energy invested into creating the world and so I would think that the potential for this world is still open. New characters, new/familiar settings, maybe even old side characters wouldn't be bad . . . unless it was. New story obviously.

Sorta. According to ANN's Anime Encyclopedia, Keiko Nobumoto, who has a Screenplay credit for Bebop, created and wrote Wolf's Rain, and happened to get the same character designer and musician from Bebop. Shinichiro Watanabe, the director and a writer, and guy who most people associate with Cowboy Bebop, had nothing to do with Wolf's Rain. The animation studios are different too... although Studio Bones did do the Bebop Movie.
Wolf's Rain does have somewhat have that look and style, though, and with just those, it's not hard to see why. From what I've seen though (which isn't much), it's pretty different.
As other's have mentioned, I think in the grand scheme of things, Samurai Champloo, Watanabe's next series, will probably be a more truthful successor. Of course, I just have that little trailer to go by.

The only reason it didn't is because it didn't have a widespread release.

Studio Bones isn't a different studio, it's just the name Shoji Kawamori's old Escaflowne unit took after splitting from Sunrise. And I believe Nobumoto has a big enough claim to being "creator" of Cowboy Bebop, She wrote most of it including the pilot, the movie, and Cowboy Funk.

I felt this way (to my eternal shame) after finishing the series for the first time about 2 years ago. It's seperation anxiety is what it is. Watch the series again and it will get better.
Just be glad that bebop got a decent ending, unlike most american cartoons that either get canned after 10 or 12 eps and get no ending (anyone see the last episode of clone high?) or become "popular" (read: financially rewarding) and go on untill they are "unpopular" after all quality and interest leaves the series... or the comedy third option, they become South Park, which is a combination of the previous two options...

Would I like to see new episodes of Bebop?
No, it's perfect as it is.
Do I want to see episodes taking place in between the originol episodes?
No, not really. What's the point of it, they can never really do anything that will develope the characters too much or it would mess up the originol first season.
Alternate Universe?
No...that's just sounds... no
What do I want?
I would like a spin off series. I think future stories about Fay is an eh idea because she had so much history and development on Bebop. Besides that she's only a good character when she has someone like Ed or Jet to play off of. Jet might be interesting, a prequel might be cool, I liked the flashbacks for him. Besides that I would like to see either a prequel explaining Spike's earlier adventures called Spike or Space Cowboy (originol ain't I). Or maybe something following the Ed character, I loved what they did with he on Bebop and I think she could be developed a little more and have a series about her own adventures.

A spinoff series would be great. It wouldn't take anything away from the series itself, merely add more depth to it.
Even if they were to continue with the series it wouldn't be very good. What would it be about? Fallowing the crazy adventures of Jet and Faye?
I say the series ending was fine the way it was.
...But I do recall discussion about inserting episodes inbetween the sessions based on the manga.

...But I do recall discussion about inserting episodes inbetween the sessions based on the manga. That would be awful. Despite what some members of this forum think, Cowboy Bebop DOES have a continuous story and that was part of it's appeal. Making a bunch of filler episodes and calling it a second series would suck.
However, I wouldn't be totally averse to making a series that followed Ed or Faye or even Andy or Punch for that matter.
