View Full Version : Spongebob - DEAD? NO!
After reading the news, I have to say, I'm truly disappointed. Spongebob was one of the only decent shows on the network today. What I've seen of Invader Zim and Fairly Oddparents has been very good. Oh well...I only watched Nick occasionally.

I thought that show was one of their most popular and perhaps marketable, but I guess the Klasky Cuspo programs have to have the market cornered on there. But then again, the "Slugbrats" didn't have any episodes for 4 years then they brought them back with the popularity of their reruns and look what happened, maybe they'll change their minds on this too eventually. I myself watched it occasionally and laughed, their star voice actor Tom Kenny{PPG, Catdog}is a favorite of mine.
But ultimatly what disturbs me is the outright domination of Klasky Cuspo shows here, saying they won't touch them and they'll perhaps make them more powerful on the network. Hmm, anyone reminded of KWB's similar overdose of a certain show which helped get rid of other shows, anyone?

Once again, raw greed rears its ugly head. Apparently networks can make more money through reruns than by making new episodes after a certain point. Then again, new episodes keeps a show popular.
Man. First Batman Beyond, now this. Dammed execs...

NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
STTYYYYUUUUPPPIIDDD NICK!
Okay, sorry for the outburst, but Spongebob was a clever show. Tasteless a bit, but still very funny, also it was cool to me in part because a friend of mine is LITERALLY Spongebob except for the fact he's human...
...Squidward and Mr. Krab also...they were gold.
So was SBSP cancelled for poor ratings or profitablility on reruns? Or does Klasky-Csuspo have something to do with this? Sorry for asking, but I'm seeing mixed reasons here...
Stupid Nick...

I didn't get to see much of Spongebob, Invader Zim, et. al. but one style taking over any network's animation is scary... especially the Klasky-Csupo style... ugh...

I can't believe this! "Spongebob" is on its way out, not to mention (possibly) "Invader Zim", "Hey Arnold!" and "The Fairly Oddparents"? There are no words in the English language (at least, words that I can post here) to describe my absolute anger. A pox on the morons at Nickelodeon for commiting such a blasphemous crime.

I don't understand...I've seen all this new SpongeBob Squarepants merchandise and stuff in the stores all over the place. Target was just recently named "the SpongeBob Squarepants Headquarters"...so why are they cancelling it now...it doesn't make any sense to me.... :(
If the show is in fact cancelled, it has to do with Nicktoons writers recent attempts to become a union in the WGA, which Nick shot down.

Ok, this is the sense of bravery or sense of stupidty---
This is for Nick-If Spongebob goes, then we're taking Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain to Cartoon Network.
Ok, maybe it's a sense of stupity. :o

I've been talking with one of the artists for Invader Zim. He's a bit curious because he had not heard of Spongebob's demise(I imagine they're pretty far deep into working on the new Zim season to look outside their offices), but he did remember a lot of picketting outside.
He's going to do some asking around today, to see if and why Spongebob was cancelled, especially at a time when it has reached its most popular value.

I read the update about it on the news page and have to say I am glad they are ending the show now that the creators are ending and that they didn't pass it on to another team of animators that could have cared less about the property.

*Whew!* Okay, sorry about that outburst on Nick...never thought I'd be in the same boat as them in wanting SBSP. :D
It IS good for someone to let go if he's not interested. We can see new quality stuff while the old project never gets remembered badly by us...sorta like how sports players keep staying in the game after thier prime. ;)
....and remember Gennedy Tartovsky? He made TWO hits...and went back to his old one! So there's hope yet for SB...

It is good for the old guard to bow out & for the show to shut down while it's on top. I've heard of what happened to Ren & Stimpy post-K, & we know what happened to Johnny Bravo post-Partible. Btw in the news thingy Mr. Wilson says the name of the show is withheld for security reasons er sum junk, but in this thread the show is mentioned. I say no more.
Lonestarr
10-10-2001, 11:24 AM
Oh, so THAT's why. I guess it's for the best. As for those shows that were mentioned, there were a few post-John K. "Ren & Stimpy" episodes that could be called gems ("My Shiny Friend" and "An Abe Divided" to name a couple"), but the post-Partible eps of "Johnny Bravo" are unwatchable.
Also, the last part of my previous post could still be used for my feelings about taking "Angry Beavers" off the air.

SpongeBob is one of my favorite modern shows. However, I think everyone knows this already, but NEW episodes continue to play on Nick's Totally Twisted Telly. I heard from an insider (whose name will not be revealed) that there's about another ten new episodes left, but more episodes were planned. New eps. of SpongeBob and the gang air on Fridays at 8PM/7PM Central. I really, really, really love this show, and my heart would be broken if it was cancelled for GOOD. However, I don't think that should happen any time soon. I advise taping the SpongeBob cartoons, but I won't advise TIME-TAPING them. Here's a schedule of when SBSP is on:
Mondays-Fridays
I'd advise taping the first showing live, at about ten to 5PM (4PM Central)
8-8:30PM/7-7:30PM Central
Saturdays-Sundays
10-11AM/9-10AM Central
SBSP is occasionally played on GAS (hee-hee :p), and sometimes has a second hour in the afternoon on Saturdays. Too bad it wasn't the SpongeBob Squarepants Columbus Day Marathon:(

Well, I doubt I'll be watching Nick ever again.
Now we can all look forward to new Rugrats specials! Rugrats Invent Peanutbutter, Rugrats VS Osama Bin Laden, and Rugrats Retire!
GAH!
That show bugs me.

Wait...MORE specials! AH-HA-HA-HA!
Rugrats' Presidents' Day!
Rugrats' Spring Break Special (or did they do this already?)
Rugrats' Christmas EVE Special
A very Rugrats Kwannza
If they don't make new Rugrats specials or marathons, they're going to make another Klasky-Csuspo show...trust me. TAB went, we got Wild Thornberrys and As Told By Ginger.
...at least SBSP has some more eppys still new to go. And yeah, it's going to be reruns for a while, but that means I'll be able to catch up on the eppys. I never seem to know what's going on in toons' plots lately...

We also need a "baby" version, like Muppet Babies, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, and TTA. So stay tuned for Fetusrats!
As I understand it, a spinoff where they're all ten years old is being planned. Yecch. Still should be better than Rocket Power.

Well, Rugrats did that "All Growed Up" special, but there's been talk about doing that as a series. I haven't watched Nick in a long time, so I dunno if that would be a good thing or a bad thing. It sounds kind of like the reverse of the "Muppet Babies" trend that don Jaime mentioned.

This is all very interesting. Reminds me of something going on in Road Rovers fanhood circles. The current hot fanfic series is a spinoff of the Space Rovers series, Space Rovers Galatea. Recently a few fics have emerged which take place 20 years in the future (the Galatea's future; it itself takes place anywhere from 2002-2007 or so). If a few fans can come up with a concurrent series set in the previous series' future, why not the gang @ Klasky-Csupo? Imo Rugrats borrowed a lot from Muppet Babies, the only animated series to win the Emmy four years in a row. I really liked Muppet Babies, & I'm noticing a lot of copying. Some things are changed, like we can actually see the adults in Rugrats (hey! Maybe Cow & Chicken borrowed from Muppet Babies too!). MBs did have a bit of a rivalry with TTA, not unlike the one between Rrs & A! And,... heaven help me, I'm becoming interested in the Rugrats, particularly the later eps. Blame the fanfics over @ Fanfiction.net I need help; I'm slipping by the day. Hey Arnold, now this; what next, Rocket Power? Like I said, I need help.

>< Rugrats, Rugrats, RUGRATS! Is that the only show Nick cares about?? I agree, there are way too many Rugrats specials. What is it now, one for every holiday? I admit, I did like this show at one point, but after about a year, the "babies" plot started to get really old. And the "All Growed Up" thing. What, did they play that 10000 times? o.o; Sheesh....and you notice how Nick never sells Spongebob videos, or ZIM videos, or Hey Arnold videos? They only seem to care about the Rugrats. *sigh* And I really will miss Spongebob...I really will. :(

SpongeBob has a single out - the theme with "Painty the Pirate and Kids," the songs from "Texas," "F.U.N.," and some others. It was listed as a single and had seven tracks. Hang on....
Here it is! (http://www.towerrecords.com/product.asp?pfid=2553824)
1: Spongebob Squarepants Theme - (featuring Paintly The Pirate And Kids)
2: Loop De Loop - (featuring Ween)
3: Texas Song - (featuring Sandy Cheeks/Junior Brown)
4: Pre-Hibernation - (featuring Pantera)
5: Ripped Pants - (featuring Spongebob And The Losers)
6: F.U.N. Song - (featuring Spongebob And Plankton)
7: Spongebob Scaredy Pants - (featuring The Ghastly Ones)
Not real complete - Tiny Tim sang "Having a Wonderful Time" in the pilot and there was an '80s arena rock song called "Sweet Victory" that debuted recently. Maybe there'll be a follow-up.

Be of good cheer, y'all. I have employed the one means which is guaranteed to sink Rugrats, one which has been proven to work time & time again. The method? I like the show. I take you back to 1999, when I discovered A! & TTA; later that year KWB pulled the shows, as did Nick. I liked Pinky & the Brain, just after it was pulled. I discovered Road Rovers last year, & was fortunate that it ran long enough afterward for me to get all of the eps on tape. I discovered Histeria last year & we know what happened then. Similar storied can be told re. Superman, Batman, Men In Black, Batman Beyond, etc. And a couple of months ago I discovered Hey Arnold, which is about to run out of eps. Every show I like gets cancelled; now I find myself liking Rugrats. I wish this correlation did not exist, but I cannot dispute what is right in front of me. As John Adams said, facts are stubborn things. So don't worry about Rugrats running rampant; as to the other shows I apologize. I don't know what I can do about this; maybe I'm under a curse in that area. End.
