OK guys and girls, help me out here...

This is a piece I'm working on at the moment - but it's about as far removed from my usual style as you can get - does anybody have any construcytive criticism (y'know, like "skin tones cool, but it clashes with her hair', that kind of thing..?

Seriously - if you see something wrong with this picture - THEN TELL ME!!!

Thanks guys and girls - I'm looking forward to your comments!!!

Actually-coloring is magnificent! It looks very, very real-you have nothing to worry about if it looks too cartoony-unlifelike to you. Nothing clashes, it all melds well. Good work! :)

Is this just a single peice or part of something bigger?

Yyyyyyyyyyyyeah, I'd agree with the "skin tones cool, but it clashes with the hair". What is she wearing, BTW? It looks like a jacket-turtleneck.

...amazing piece of artwork you got there... and there's only one thing I can see that bothers me a bit about it...something kinda minor, but... it's the lack of detail in the ear... it might not be so bad if the ear wasn't in the center of the image (or close to it...) but it is, and it's something that you'll notice... right now it just seems like it's there and was just colored in... some detail in there, even if it's just some shadowing... something is needed to show the depth in the ear... as well as the shape...

Nice skin tone color there dude. I'd say you could work more with the colors though, sometimes is seems to scribbled.

I think this is an awesome face! :D My opinion is as good as anyone else's though, but I think the face looks a little too plastic. I think the airbrush highlights (I'm guessing it's airbrush) needs to be smudged a bit more, nothing too hard to do. And I guess a little more detail to the ear wouldn't hurt. But that's just me ^_^

Aside from what everyone else has said, I'd change two things. First, I'd colorize the inks to around the darkest skin tone used. Second, I'd add some backlights / backshades to the face, something like what you already have going on in the bottom lip. Those two changes combined should work to help tie your shading in better with your inks. As it is, the surface of the face seems to be floating on a seperate plain, above or behind the outlines. Other than that, very good work. =)

It's a single piece of art from a much bigger project (does that make any sense..?)

It's eventually supposed to look like a leather cat suit - that's the theory, anyway!!!

whoa dat be some crazy.. oh yea i cant say that word, hehe its awesome! the new colors are crazy, but like people have said before, one thing I think that makes it look more real than cartoony is the way you ink it, if you add alot of detailing in the way you ink it, it makes it look more.. realistic. thats not really a critiasism, darn i cant spell, but more just, probabally something you already knew! anyways it looks AWESOME, i wish i knew how to color like that! keep up the awesome stuffs!

Hey Mad Hatter, if you ever see this - this is one of the characters from the computer game I'm working on (I can post this because this particular picture has been axed from the game...) :( Anyway, I know it doesn't give away too much, but at least now you've had a glimpse of my 'secret project'!!!

That's awesome, Frozen! I really like the second one you've got up, that's cool...

Oh really? Sheesh, the one thread of yours I don't respond to (because at the time I couldn't really think of anything aside from "gawrsh, that's purdy"), and it's one of the ones I've been waiting for!

Anyway, the portrait seemed really evocative of traditional African/Egyptian cultures, though in a fairly aggressive modern style. The "braids" seem to be synthetic in a retro/futuristic sort of way. Was the revised portrait for the game, or was it something you were just doing for fun? I like the stripes, though I can't decide if the yellow on the face is a bit too bright or a good match for the braids.

Now then, let's see if I can guess what kind of game you're working on... racing? Maybe, since the art for a lot of racing games has gotten pretty broad lately (have you seen the art for Sony's Kinectica?). Maybe not. Probably not an RPG, the art seems a bit too aggressive for that. Hrrrrm. I'd guess that it would be some sort of an action/adventure game with a blend of primitive and futuristic weapons. But I'll just have to wonder till it comes out, eh?

Stone me! One of your guesses is so bang on it's frightening!!! Can't tell you which one though, unfortunately...

Aha! This is a sure sign that I really need to start devoting parts of my brain to other pursuits...

Wow! I like the 2nd one better (tho' the skin tones in #1 was pretty cool too).

Comments:

- The character stands out better by the use of the muted bg colors and elements.
- Also, as someone stated, the character looks more complete with the ear detail.
- The addition or contrast on lines in her hair, helps blend the CG elements and coloring to the rest of her face. (Does that make sense?)

Suggestions:

- Maybe a smaller brush for the inner areas of the ear, about the size of the crease at the eyebrow.

All in all, a great illustration!!!

Keep up the great work.
