Back in 97, Cartoon Network ran a few official chats on AOL. All the chat moderators had fun cartoon names like CNDroopy, or CNVelma, or CNBatman. I actually had a lot of fun talking over there, although it was swamped with children.

The past few years, Toon Zone did attempt to run a chat room, and it was a mildly successful. The problems with chat are that you need someone in there 24 hours a day. Compared to these forums, everything happens at a much faster pace. Spammers are faster, typing is faster, and overall its a different experience than this. The main reason we don't have one is because I "think" there will be a chat option in the next version of vBulliten that will allow everyone to chat with their Toon Zone user name. Don't quote me on that, I just recall that featuring in the 'coming soon' comments in one of the betas we tested.
