Does anyone think CN will ever pick up the simpsons? I know that FOX owns it and that it would kill the syndication market, but it would be CNs biggest aquisition, would change its rep as a "kids" network and wouldnt have to be edited at all.

Mike Lazzo wants it.

I think it might be more of an Adult Swim show. (at least some episodes like when Bart works at the strip club)

Some episodes would be good for CN. But a lot of them just can't be aired, and it would be more suited for AS.

It should air on AS.

But it's gotta be uncut unlike syndication.

The though of it is very laughable. Fox won't let go of this for a very long time.

I've always imagined The Simpsons on another network in reruns- just imagine watching "Bart the Daredevil" with a Comedy Central logo in the bottom right. ;) Still, putting it on Adult Swim would be Simpsons overkill- you've already got Simpsons syndicated, and those are shown atleast 2-3x per day. It would be nice to watch them uncut, though...

I don't think I'd really want that. The show has been done to death in syndication on FOX affiliates. If CN was able to show uncut episodes from the first eight seaons, it might be nice.

The program is more than a decade old! The only reason they let CN air Futurama is because it was overwith and believed to have "failed". If anything Fox was happy to make something out of it. Now they they've seen how Cartoon Network can fire up a project, I don't think they'll be so gracious.

I still doubt it will happen anytime soon. The show is in syndication EVERYWHERE (it's on three times a day between my local Fox, local WB and the Canadian station [<3 Buffalo]). If it were to happen, it would probably be (at least) a few years after the show ends...and by the looks of the ratings, that won't happen for awhile.

And IMO it really wouldn't be a great (quality wise, anyway) pickup for Adult Swim. Seasons 2-8, of course, were comedic gold, but after that the show gradually lost its identity and is now not much better than anything else on TV. If anything season 11+ came on, I'd probably change the channel.

So, I'm pretty meh on the whole thing.

Well, they would play it on adult swim, WOULD THEY?

I remember about 2 years ago I used to look forward to the week's new Simpsons, but lately I've missed episodes and not even cared.

I also love FOX's BIZARRO buisness model of cancelling the good shows in favor of old tired series, reality shows, and shows resembling soft-core porn.

Well, I rarely watch Simpsons eps in syndication because

A.They don't show the episodes in order.

B.The episodes are edited.

C.They air the wrong openings.

I think it just wouldn't draw in very good ratings. Like everyone else said, it's played multiple times a day. Most people who care have seen every episode a zillion times...it just wouldn't benefit CN very much.

I agreed with some of them that they ought to air it as a AS show, since they got HARDCORE NUDITY, and there are episodes like the bordello one, the gay friends ones the one on Homer taking pot for eyesores, and bunch of other stuffs too numious to mentioned.;)

it should air on cn someday.. though on adult swim, though, due to more of the later episodes in the 2000's being more adult in nature.

It might not be syndication overkill since TBS airs Friends and Seinfeld, and both of those shows air at least twice a day on local syndicated networks in various cities on channels other than TBS.

A lot of shows are being overkilled syndicatedly by Cable Networks now, so it could work with an hour of Simpsons every night if they ever wanted to extend Adult Swim back to 10 PM EST.

Usually you want a network to bring in shows that you cant watch on any other station. Fox airs the simpsons 3 times a day already, so adding it to another network wont do much to excite anyone.

It'd be better than FOX.

I think they'd only episodes currently out on DVD so they could boost DVD sales...

The show is more expensive for syndication since there are more episodes to air, and it tends to get better ratings in syndication than other TV shows. Although I would love to see them unedited, it's unlikely that would happen.

I don't think CN would spend a little extra to air a show that is so easily accessable during the "dinnertime" hours (5-8pm EST....that's would I call it).

Then why does TBS bother filling up it's 6-8 PM slot with Seinfeld and Friends if it can be watched on another channel usually in that same time slot?

Back in the mid-90's, the same animated shows would air on TNT, TBS, and CN, all Turner owned properties.

And not all places air it 3 times a day. Fox 5 in NYC does, but in other cities it may be on fewer times than that.

You know I remember way back when I first started getting Cartoon Network they advertised the Flintstones as uneditted and pointed out that when you see Flintstones episodes in syndication they always cut out scenes. I wonder how successful their airings of uneditted Flintstones were? Of course, that was about a decade ago and the Simpsons is a very different show than the Flintstones so I guess we can't really compare the two.

Nevertheless, if Cartoon Netork actually advertised the Simpsons as uncut and in the original production order I think it would get better ratings than it does in syndication.

It's got a happy home on Fox now, and they show it enough, so I wouldn't even worry about what's going to happen in the future.
In fact, it will be coming on in my area in 3 minutes, and yesterday it came on 4 times!!!

I'm going to have to say....yes. It should come to CN.

Cartoon Network is a network for Cartoon, obviously. The Simpsons is one of the most Successful cartoons (adult cartoons) to ever grace the planet earth with it's...we...presence. It just seems like a natural fit.

Besides, Futurama and Family Guy have got to be running thin by now, and if Adult Swim has any plans to follow through with their First New Years Resolution, they're going to need a new mainstream flagship(s). I doubt any of the anime they've aquired will do the trick, and if Home Movies' last figures are any indication as to how well its going to be doing this time around, it won't surfice either.

I know that Fox probably wouldn't let their big flagship show head off to cable yet, and I know it is already on several times a day where I live (even if I don't watch it), but I am going to have to jump on the bandwagon to let the Simpsons air on CN. Even if this show is in its zillionth rerun, it will probably get higher ratings than some of the other shows (even the low rated good ones) on the network. Of course I would probably only be watching the early seasons (heck it would be easy since I mostly watch CN these days anyway), but that doesn't mean there won't be tons of fans watching even the crap. As for where to put it, I can pretty much say that 8-10 is out since that is considered the major "prime time" for CN anyway. (well, for their "kid" based shows) I can see it being on AS, but it could be a bit out of reach for the audience they would want for this show..then again AS is one of CN's highlights so I probably just said nonsense. However, I do like the idea of putting it on at 10, bridging the gap between the "main" part of the lineup and AS...heck, it could be what stuff like the Flintstones and the classic Looney Tunes were on the network once upon a time: late enough for kids to stay up to watch, yet cool enough to attract a sizable adult audience.

My personal opinion is that it would be AWSOME! I mean it's on of the greastest cartoons ever! I think that it would do awsome on AS.

Where I live, The Simpsons isn't played in syndication anymore. So my only source of good Simpsons is the DVDs.

So yes, I'd love it if CN got simpsons.. but I'm not sure if they should bother with later episodes. Also, I think it simply makes sense for CN to get the simpsons for the reasons that discloner noted.

Okay logically speaking if they were going add the Simpsons to CN then it would no doubt have to be on Adult Swim. Furthermore they should start from the begining (okay maybe just second season) and have it completey uncut like on the DVD's (those BETTER be uncut). That could work out well enough. Other than that I'd say its on enough and CN doesn't need to show it as well.

I really wish CN would get the rights to Dilbert and put that on Adult Swim. Its hillarious! Sadly its in Viacom's hands now... same goes for Clerks and Undergrads.

If TimeWarner hadn't sold their half of Comedy Central, they may have actually been able to retain the rights, IMO.

Then until CN starts showing TVPG shows in prime time then you can forget about the Simpsons not airing on Adult Swim (if it were to come to CN). I think it makes good sense to have it there, especially if its uncut.

But isn't The Simpsons in the same class as Futurama and Family Guy?

It's edited in syndication? What kind of stuff have they taken out and why? Time constraints?

It varies depending on who's doing the syndicating, but in general they just make time edits in order to fit in more commercials. A shortened version of the opening title is nearly always used, and there's usually some stuff taken out of the episode as well-- whatever they can remove without making it nonsensical.

Well being a show that is currently still makeing new episodes and is a very long series, I say no on this one, regards it will be ages before they finish up that series, plus the content is not so Cartoon Network, and should not be on.
