Ever since I heard that the WB was interested in making a TMNT show and revive the franchise I was hoping it would come out on CN. Since day one of the 4kids series I was hoping it would end up on CN (more specifically Toonami). Heck man I wanted and still want the original show on CN. So having the new TMNT series ending up on CN is quite a treat!
This week we get the first taste of this excellent series. Bare in mind these first episodes are not the crowing achievement for the series but they do set things up nicely and have a few things that older fans will find quite entertaining.
If you have never seen the new series then I give you fare warning that this show is NOT the old show in any way shape or form, but you may find it even better because there is more action and a better blend of comedy and action.
Now to break it down...
12/29 - Things Change
In the opener the turtles get their home trashed by some unnivited guests and tangle with the Purple Dragons and some Foot ninjas. Look for the cameo of Eastmen and Laird.
12/30 - A Better Mouse Trap
12/31 - Attack of the Mousers
01/01 - Meet Casey Jones - Based on the Mirage comics Raphael one shot
01/02 - Nano
So there you have it. I hope you enjoy TMNT this week. Catch it at 4pm right before Totally Spies and Toonami.

I'll be watching as well.. I think I've only seen like 2 episodes during its' FoxBox run so these will most likely be 'NEW to ME!'....http://forums.toonzone.net/images/smilies/sweat.gif

Some advice Hyper Luigi:
You did a good job with this. However, you should put the synopsis of the episode an hour or two before the actual showing of the episode. I think it's better that way. That's what I did with "Clone Wars." But if you don't want to follow my advice that's fine.

That's true. I'll remember that future reference. Thanks.
Could a mod sticky this thread? I wouldn't want it to get lost in the great mass for threads on this board.

Heh, sorry about the title. You know, the theme song of the show bugged me at first, but then remembering it, it's pretty catchy. And the show's not bad itself. In fact, it's pretty damn good. Watching a good amount of 4Kids shows, I could recongnize many of the voices (For example, Raphel equals Gruff Tristan from Yu-Gi-Oh, and Splinter equals the Old Ninja Pegagus also from Yu-Gi-Oh) but the VA's did a very good job. The voices actually sounded somewhat diffrent then a normal 4Kid production, and the dialogue flowed very smoothly. (I espically liked Michaelanglo's one liners. "I call this room! See this space here, also mine!"). I also liked how they hooked you in by showing the middle of the episode before the theme and then showing how it progressed to the fight with the Purple Dragons. (Not much of a threat, but hey, when it's humans vrs Turtles, turtles come out on top). Of course, the real fun began when the Foot Ninjas came in. Why did they come and what was there purpose? No one knows yet (excpet the people who watched the episodes after this) but they were effective. Thanks to large numbers and ninja skills, they nearly got the Turtles until they escaped. Highlights include The 4 training with Splinter in the beginning, fighting of those robot bugs, Raphel sneaking around to a manhole cover and then hiding in the van, Donatello's skills at opening the lock, returning the money to the poilceman, and the Turtles checking out there new crib. Overall, a very nice beginning to what I feel will be a great show. Thanks for the teaser CN and thank you for acquiring this show. A

Those metal things reminded me of the petbombs from that Brak game on adultswim.com
The dialogue was good. Surprising for a 4Kids show.
The puns/jokes were funny. "Walk this way." "What the shell are they."
Today's episode was funny(good) and I look forward to seeing the next four.

I'd say the coolest line in the first episode would be...
"Are those guys ninajs?" - Leonardo
"Well, they're certainly ninja-esque..." - Michelangelo
Here's a run down of the voices just in case you haven't read yet...
Leonardo - Trey Racer from Shaman King
Donatello - A few minor villians in YGO and other shows but not notable
Raphael - Tristan from Yu-Gi-Oh!
Michelangelo - Joey from Yu-Gi-Oh! and Lance from Pokemon
Splinter - Peguasus from Yu-Gi-Oh!
Casey - The dugeon dice monster guy from Yu-Gi-Oh! (what's his name agian?)
April - Ash, Ash's mom, May and a few others from Pokemon
Shredder - Some various voices on Pokemon (or that's what they say)
Baxter Stockman and Hun you probably wont recognize
Misc voices - Eric Stuart as usual
Possibly one of Cops, Jack Kirby, and a few minor roles later in the series - Our friend Mike (it sounds like him to me)

Casey - The dugeon dice monster guy from Yu-Gi-Oh! (what's his name agian?)
That's Duke Devlin.
Also, I believe one of the kid characters in a later episode (that I saw part of) has Mokuba (from Yu-Gi-Oh's) voice.

Yes I'm sure that is true because Mokuba's VA is the main VA 4kids uses for potraying children.

I highly doubt that Duke Devlin's parents knew about the "Duke Devlin" TV show.
It's a coincidence.

I haven't seen this episode since it premiered on Fox Box. At the time, the channel that carried it had a fuzzy picture, so it was nice to see the animation in the crisp, clear cable form (I also enjoy watching Yugioh and X-men Evolution reruns on CN because of the better picture).
One of the major differenced between the new and old show for me is the better dialogue. I recall cringing at the talking in the old show as being too...inane. This show doesn't use dialogue that talks down to the viewers. It makes it better to listen to. They also had a bunch of jokes that viewers of the old show would laugh at (like Michaleangelo's interrupted "cowabunga" line)
I'm also surprised at the illusion of violence that they have. We are left to assume what that guy did to the leader of the Purple Dragons after we see the doors close. And after we see some of his upcoming actions we'll see that this guy means business and is not to be taken for a fool like the villians from the previous series.
Animation flowed well, which is good for a first episode. You can tell some money was spent on giving us a good intro. Story-wise I like also like how they begin the episodes in the middle of the action, cue the opening sequence, then rewind to the events that lead to what we saw at first, then play out the action at the end. I can't think of any other cartoon series to do that.
I'm also surprised at the voices. Looking at who did some of the voices, I never would have guessed some of those names. They did a good job of not sounding like their regular selves. Although when Casey Jones was introduced, I immediately noticed it was the same guy that did Kid Muscle, but it worked well.
Overall, I give the first episode an A+. 4Kids was able to reintroduce a classic franchise, improving on the mediocre elements from the previous series, while still remaining true to the essence of what the show (and from what I heard, the comics) was.

Is that his real name translated or did they steal that from the old HB show?
His original name was Otogi in Japan. I don't know if that translates to Duke, but I doubt it.
Sorry if that was off topic.
First time seeing the premiere episode.
Now the beginning of the game makes a lot of sense.
I thought it was pretty convenient that the turtles were able to drive right to where they were to meet Splinter.
Good show, it was definitely a nice change of pace for CN.

This show is actually funny...since it's Mirage doing the writing/plotting.
Seeing the first ep again, it seems mediocre compared to what come later in this series...but everything has it's start. And it's better than 90% of whatever else is on Saturday morning TV.
Whoever said they were surprised at the violence: Just you wait. The level of violence continues to increase as the series goes on...

Those metal things are 'mousers'; Baxter Stockman's rat-catching mini-robots.
They made their first appearence in issue #2 of the original TMNT comic, way back in 1984.

12/30 - A Better Mouse Trap
The turtles discover that the little robots that trashed their pad were Baxter Stockman's mousers and while tracking one back to Stocktronics they rescue April O'Neil from an upleasant fate (old fans will love what Mike says once they save her).
Nice to see the turtles back in action, and the picture quality is definitely better than the one in the Fox Box.

Well, today's episode was my first real introduction to the series(with the exception of that crappy episode where Donatello gets sucked into the comic book world). Well, I've actually heard quite a bit about the original comic books and have even read one or two of them, so it was really neat to see the story work out like it was intended to be. However, this being done by a company that is known for making bad dubs, the show seems to feel like a bad dub. The music and voices both seem to remind me of 4 Kids usual hackjobs even though this is an original series.
Oh, well, despite the music and voices I enjoyed this episode a lot. Baxter Stockman was always my favorite villain in the old animated series so it's nice to see him the way he was originally intended to be. However, I always thought April O'Neil was originally black as well. This new April O'Neil doesn't really resemble the April O'Neil from the comics at all.
By the way, what was with the part where the mouser cut through the watervane? I mean it was like Donatello said "Hey, a bunch of water is about to come out and push us down again so why don't we stand here talking about it for a couple minutes and wait for it to happen rather than go after that mouser?" That was so freakin stupid.

A better episode than yesterday's, if only because of the appearence of April O'Neil(hot animated women always make a show better). One thing I've noticed is that Mike's voice actor has a hard time delivering some lines using surfer dude lingo(he sounds a bit awkward sometimes). Just another thing that should clear up in coming episodes. Still waiting for more story.

That was stupid. Obviously stupid. So obviously stupid, that it leads me to believe that maybe the writers meant for people to notice it. Nah, it was probably just a stupid mistake(hopefully there won't be anymore mistakes like this).

April was never black. She was always depicted as white in all the color pictures of her (like the covers of the original comics.)
Yeah, there's a couple other lines lifted from the movie as well, as the series goes on. Stay tuned (yeah, survive those crappy "team up with a random kid" episodes, because it'll be worth it when RtNY rolls around.)
The voices get better as the series goes along. Mikey sounded awkward in this episode compared to later episodes.

Not exactly... on the show he said "Can I keep her" and on the movie he said "Can we keep her?", but it was obvious that 4kids wanted to get the attention of the old fans. They watched the first movie to get a general understanding of the turtles and to generaly understand how they might sound. You may notice that the turtles in this show sound like younger versions of their movies selfs. Which is excellent IMO.
The best lines in this episodes are probably... (dreadfully sorry if I botch them)
Mikey: Next time lets leave the wall crawling to the guy in the blue and red tights...
Leo: You read WAY too many comic books
Raphael: Jeez Donny, why don'tcha marry one already!
Leo: I'd like to see you try hot head
Raph: Bring it on Splinter Jr.
Don: Leo and Raph fighting, who would have guessed that?
Don: That maniac! ... Hey! Wait for us!

Nothing is different on VHS and DVD from what was aired in theaters. However, there were massive cuts for violence (Turtles v. Shredder was longer, lots of little cuts for violence, etc.) most notably a scene visable in the trailer of Shredder beating the crap out of his minions (right before his speech to the wayward teens.)
And of course, the ending with Danny and April pitching the TMNT idea as a comic. Laird thought it was something only scripted for years, but he found prop posters made for the scene earlier this (last) year, and a screenshot of Mikey from the scene was also found. You can read about this scene at the official site's movie section.
I too forgot about the airings until Wednesday and Thursday. Luckily, I have my ultra-cool DVD Box Set, with minature figures of all four Turtles (They're so cute!) and the first twelve episodes.
One thing I'm glad for is that CN removed the eyecatchers. Now if only FUNimation would do the same thing...
I noticed that while the credits were shown, they were sped up, or something. They're much longer on the DVDs.
No, Baxter ain't dead yet. He's still useful. But as you get farther into the season, you realise that Baxter made a deal with the wrong man.
You figure that since TMNT toys were selling like hotcakes, CN would have put this on Toonami already.

I think that is why they tested it at 4pm. Too see if it would fair well after school rather than in prime time. So that means it will probably air either right where it is now (but get some dang advertising) or air early on in Toonami. Like 5pm or 5:30.

One thing I'm glad for is that CN removed the eyecatchers. Now if only FUNimation would do the same thing...
I noticed that while the credits were shown, they were sped up, or something. They're much longer on the DVDs.
I liked the eyecatchers. They reminded me of some of the eyecatchers from anime(although it would have been better if they showed ONE eyecatcher for one commerical break instead of three). How long are they?

The final stretch...
01/02 - Nano
- Entirely a filler episode but it does shows the beginings of Casey and April's "relationship"
An experiemental Nano bot creature breaks out of its containment unit and befriends a rather pathetic crook. The crook promises to be Nano's father and the bot uses his amazing abilities to help his "father" get whatever he desires and to take down anyone who stands in his way. The turtles discover this threat when Nano and his "daddy" try to steal some things from April's antique shop. Too bad Master Splinter didn't teach them how to deal with a shape shifiting super strong Nano bot. The ending may be a bit creepy to some (it was for me) and you'll know why once you see it.
And so ends TMNT's one week adventure on Cartoon Network. Hopefully the kiddies tuned in and we'll be seeing it sooner than March (and preferably on Toonami).
The Bot who wanted a Daddy, in "Nano" Review.
Just caught today's episode. This was one I remembered seeing back on FoxBox. The nano-bots needed a father figure and they picked a lousy one, in the end it sucked for the nano-bots but it may have made that guy better in the end. The turtle van looks cool that's CG right? If so, I just noticed it. Nice line about Rapheal being similar to the seperated nano bots. Can't forget Casey semi hitting on April.. Argueing means you care. A+. http://forums.toonzone.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I love this episode. This is my first time seeing it, but it was great. I felt sad when the Nanobots died. Seeing that thief cry redeemed him in my eyes. This was a sad episode and anything involving Nano machines seems to be sad for me. (CB movie) Anyway, this epsode almost made me cry when the Nanobots said, "Daddy!" while they were being burned up. Part of it was their voice, and the other part was just how unfair it seemed. They weren't even evil. They were just kids. A+ I'm watching this again the next time it airs.

The old show would never have anything this emmotional and this isn't even the tip of the ice burg for this turtles series.

Not long. Maybe about 5 seconds, but they interrupt the flow of the show when watching without commercials.
As for Nano, it's sad and all, but I can't watch this episode anymore without getting miffed at just how annoying that son of a beach is in the GameCube game.

Definately a good filler episode, let alone good episode in general.
Didn't Laird say awhile back that Nano was coming back? I wouldn't want the impact of the episode "Nano" to be ruined but I would love to see that little/big robot get a happy ending.
At least there's a plausible way to bring him back since he's made of self-replicating nanobots, a few that might have survived by not being attached to the main body before it fell in the liquid metal. The turtles did hack a few pieces off. Then again, they never said the nanobots themselves could be melted at that temp, it could have just been the metal body.

Jeez, too many returning villians coming back in season 2, especially stupid ones (think Garbage).
In my opinion, only the Foot (and maybe Baxter in small doses) should be the only reoccuring villians, since the Turtles are forever tied to them. Especially since (in the comics) Raphael ironicly created the Foot.
Well, Garbageman and Nano will probably be in 1 episode a piece, giving them a grand total of 2 episodes each. Though Nano is pretty much a given since he was pretty popular and even got an entire level of the new console games devoted to him.

I rather enjoyed the 'Garbageman' episode, not because of the villain but because some of the street people were interesting.
