I don't have anything to talk about this week. Mostly satisfied at how Bonus Stage #5 and High Score #4 are doing on Newgrounds. Next week I'll review some of the games I got for Christmas. The only one I've really played so far is Prince of Persia, which is great and all, but I have to say one thing to game developers out there:

STOP THROWING IN MINDTRIP SEQUENCES.

Noone likes to do "multiple door maze" puzzles, or cryptic speeches from characters while you're doing it. FISSION MAILED in MGS1 was funny. The mindtrip sequence in MGS2 was pushing it. The mindtrip sequence in POP is just unneeded.

I heard Eternal Darkness made the viewer go on a Mindtrip. I guess some games just like using it.

(Note: putting up the Zoids Talkback now).

This is the first time "Car Trouble" will air on SVES this week.

That is all.

And now all Teen Titan First Season Episodes have aired on SVES, making way for the second season in two weeks.

I happen to like mindtrips in video games. =p Tho' I hear PoP does push it pretty badly.

For the record, I hated the mindtrip sequences in the first Max Payne. Playing through those two levels can force anyone overdose on some V while standing on the edge of a steep cliff.

As for the SVES talkback, I just noticed another corny technique used by 4kids in Yu-Gi-Oh! . To cut an episode short or to cover up something they don't feel comfortable with down the road, they turn on their crappy techno music as they speed up the action in the show.

Today's reason was because there was a card that looked like Death/Grim Reaper.

*sigh*

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU 4KIDS?!

What are you so God Dammed afraid of? Are you afraid that if you make any reference to death that religious groups and mothers from across the world will burn you at the stake? This character has been used in cartoons for almost 100 years now. It doesn't mean jack squat other than he is a scary figure and he comes for your soul. There is even a show on CN that stars the Grim Reaper.

If you want, you could even say he's Grim the Soul Taker and he's going to take your cards to the Shadow Realm. See 4Kids, I can make up stupid crap too by following your unwritten rules, yet it makes more sense in the end and you don't have to pay that garage band down the street to sing.

Better yet edit that whole scene out and make up some stupid excuse with Joey adlibbing off screen. It's what you do best and kids don't question it. Thats why you're so friggen rich and Viz is in the gutter.

And yet they let TMNT get away with all the things they won't allow in their dubs. The threat of someone falling is edited, yet characters have actually fallen off skyscrapers in TMNT. No punches allowed in YGO or Pokemon, but decapitation is cool for the TMNT.

And don't forget about the invisible guns. I'm sure in a nation with the largest death toll for guns that this stuff could fly. And that is why our friends to the north are smarter and live better than we think. :)

Speaking of which, I love how the US just blamed Canada for the Mad Cow Disease. I'm sure that they did it because Canadians are stupid and like to play hockey. And they hate Americans becasue we've got better health conditions and fast food chains than they do. Wrong-o. ;)

I've got a lot of catching up to do with today's games. So many out there, so little time.

I'd have to say the most intelligent game I've ever played is Earthbound.

That wasn't the reason. They didn't have to edit him in the last episode (the mosnter was the Reaper of the Cards, BTW) when he was actually trying to reap Joey and then Bakura. So that wasn't the reason. It was probably because of Panik's cheap pyrotechnics and them wanting to pimp the new song from their Yu-Gi-Oh CD or whatever. But it wasn't because of Reaper Of The Cards.

Pimping the album is a good excuse, but my story is just another thing to add to the list of complaints towards 4kids. ;)

I usually think .Hack//Sign is "Meh," but I liked tonight's episode. I must've just been in the right mindset for it.

I think its because American cartoons have ALWAYS gotten away with more than dubbed anime. However I blame most of the shameless edits to YGO and Pokemon squarely on KWB. Shaman King has gotten away with sufficient violence, as has Ultimate Muscle. TMNT... well heck yeah it can be violent. Still there's a lot of of screen stuff which is annoying but I'd say thats more because the animators were lazy then because 4kids wouldn't let the turtles take care of business on screen.

Speaking of TMNT, was there a promo for it durring SVES?

EDIT: I just reviewed my tape and there wasn't a single promo! Nothing, naughta zilch, zip... I figured it would be a stealth premiere but I would have like to see a promo none the less.

DianaGohan

Hyper Luigi, you have to remember that with stealth premieres they NEVER have advertisments for them: EVER!!!!! That's what makes them stealth premieres. Besides, having them on CN for next week is just a test run. I'm sure they'll be plenty of ads for them on their offical premiere.

Nin-Nin69

So the result for tommorow will be:

Hyper Luigi- OMG IT'S ALMOST TIME!!

Picky Targeted Demograph- What? No Billy and Mandy? Time for Yu-Gi-Oh! on KidsWB

William C. Maune: Bad news for TMNT ratings.

Hyper Luigi- NOOOOOO!!!

Sora Takenouchi

But how "stealthy" can a premiere be if it's in the afternoon?

DianaGohan
12-28-2003, 01:24 PM
A stealth premiere just means one that wasn't announced before hand. It could be 1:00 AM or 7:00 PM and still be a stealth premiere if not announced beforehand about the premiere.

4Kids made a screw up in their edit today:

Yugi plays Celtic Guardian in Defense Mode (which btw you can't do in the real card game unless its effect says otherwise), and when he does this his LP are suddenly 1606. Shadow devours Celtic Guardian, cheesy pimped CD music starts playing, and you see him summon Winged Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress. The card is devoured and his LP (now 2000 again) go down to 1606.

EVERYONE knows Yugi played a magic card that restores his LP the previous turn. >_<
