“This incident is not terrorist-related,” Veneman said Tuesday. “I cannot stress this point strongly enough.”
That is so true with the Bush administration in power.

However, there was a case of mad cow disease in Canada last May that officials described as a single, isolated incident. That cow was suspected to have links to cattle in the United States, but there was never any evidence that the infection had spread into this country.
Whether there is evidence or not, that is probably what happened.

“This is a clear indication that our surveillance and detection program is working,” Veneman said.
There seems to be no proof that their program did not fail earlier.

The USDA will frequently update its Web site, and concerned consumer can call a hot line at 1-866-USDA-COM.
The consumers who will call them are probably the same people who wrapped their houses with duct tape.

and real milk is good =)

Some people don't drink real milk because they're lactose intolerant, meaning their digestive system can't handle dairy products. Good thing I'm lactose tolerant, though.

Someone in my family is lactose intolerant, but I do not think the special milk that that person drinks is soy milk.

The comment about the exclamation point makes me think he was talking about the thread starter, not you.

I guess I'll just have to stick to ham and chicken. Oh, and fish. Gotta have fish.

BTW, this little incident occured in my state, much to my dismay. I was gonna have some McD's tomarrow. ;)

Well, the good news is that as ling as toy're not eating Cow Nervous system, Mad Cow should not be contained within your meat.

So Steaks are completely safe.

As for ground beef?

Well, as long as you buy from a reputible and clean butcher you're safe.

(Out here we raise our own beef So I don't worry.)

Same....Same....

It's not that I'm lactose intolerant. It's just that I prefer not drinking down all them somatic cells (pus) and cow blood (yeah....).

In all honesty, one case of Mad Cow disease doesn't scare me in the least. Though, to be fair, I think the nations of the world should close their borders to American beef for a few months until all the tests are done, because they did the exact same thing when one case of Mad Cow was reported in Canada back in April, and our beef industry took a big hit. Turnabout is fair play.

Really, why would people get so upset over this, though? Things get disease - that's why this system is in place, so people are notified when such diseases are found, so as to prevent it from spreading.
