Since I've painted myself into a corner by leaving my parent's gifts to the last minute this year, and I figured others might be in need of similar advice, let's share gift ideas with one another...please!
Need gift ideas for...
...a Father in his Fiftees: This strong, silent type enjoys occasional golfing trips, war movies and the "Peanuts" gang. Unfortunately, he already has a Snoopy ornament, doesn't buy films and never seems to find time to golf. He's always pleased with socks as gifts, and my mother suggests movie gift certificates (so they can go on cute dates), but I'm hoping to give him something more personal. Any thoughts?
...A Mother whose age is none of your buisness:  This emotional intellectual enjoys feeding birds in her backyard, cooking up a storm in the kitchen, and going on movie dates with her hubby. I've already gone the purfume/scented candle route, and all she's mentionned she's interested in this year is a Mastercraft stapler. Oy!
If anyone else has parents, relatives or friends they can't think up gifts for, post and let's see if we can't brainstorm up some good ideas, or share stories of past last-minute gifts that did the trick.

For the father: Can't think of anything really personal...does he read? You could get him some Peanuts books.
For the mother: Eh, this is tough. How much is the stapler?

Give them a rock. They're cheap, easy to find, and chances are, you only would have to go outdoors to get some. But if they don't like rocks:
For the Dad: Probably a tie. Or maybe a belt.
For The Mom: Some sort appliance that will make her job easier. You should remember: It depends on whether she works or dosen't which appliance to give her.
For The Sister: Jewlery of some sort.
For The Brother: A form of currencey
For The Friend: Make them something or give them a gift card.

Give your dad a rock he'll apreciate the resemblance.
Give your mom 80 bucks and tell her to buy herself an age she would be proud of telling people
You've just been Samurowned

everybody, get in the car christmas morning.
drive to another city a few hours from home.
watch as they're shocked there are places other than the city they HAVE to live in.
explore anything in the city those in the backseat want. if they can't say anything, just drive around until they point 'wow! that!'
go out to dinner at any place they want. even if they're old.
come home when they sleep quietly. maybe they'll wonder if yesterday was a dream. but they will be more open to the world than they were before.
that gift will keep on giving cause you did something you'd never think of on your own.
a gift of a roadtrip and away from the common and mundane and same old, same old.

Are there any edible goodies they enjoy?
My sister and I got our parents a basket full of "gourmet" type treats.

Never did remember to pop back in and thank everyone for their ...erm... creative suggestions :p As it all turned out, my father and I got together to get my mother a Mastercraft "No Kickback" stapler from Canadian Tire, and I copped out and got dad a 20 dollar gift certificate for the movies, so he and mom can go have some fun.
One of my original ideas for Dad though, was to buy him the Peanuts Christmas cd, but my mother told me that he wouldn't go for it...then on Xmas morning, he heard some music on the radio and happily exclaimed "Isn't that Snoopy?" before turning it up. Thanks mom  Whatever...something I can get him for next year.
That gourmet gift basket sounds awesome though. Felix and Norton cookies are always welcome :D
And yes...we still live in Canada.... LOL You guys rule!
