I have never posted any of my drawings online before. But...here's a picture I made and colored on my computer, featuring Woody Woodpecker, Chilly Willy, and Andy Panda. A tribute to Walter Lantz, I guess.

I didn't draw the background. That's a scan of the background that started off many of Woody's cartoons (before he popped out to say "Guess Who!?").

Awesome image Jon! Did you make the characters on your computer or draw them free-hand? Either way, they look really cool. Also, watch out for my drawing of Buzzy the Crow and Katnip real soon! ;)

I particularly like the image of Woody. He looks like he just popped out of the wood and is saying the "Guess Who?" line. Nice energy to the whole thing...

I'm guessing it was drawn by hand since it's very hard to get free flowing lines on a computer paint program with a mouse (without spending forever on it).

I drew the characters by hand then scanned them onto my computer and colored them. Thanks for the kind words, guys. Maybe I'll scan some more of my drawings.

Can't wait to see your Buzzy drawing, Thad! :D

I like Chilly Willy, he's the cutest - but the entire drawing is great! Nice job! :D

Jon,
I love the drawing. Just as what was said before, it has a lot of energy. Reminds me of Kennedy animation.

*Technical Geek Stuff Ahead*

Can I make a technical suggestion? I used to have this problem with scanning things in. I would scan them in grayscale and when I went to cut out all the white, I would still have this white fuzz around all my lines. I got around it by scanning completely in black & white... and at the maximum resolution my scanner would allow. This way when I sized it down, the jagged lines would smooth out anyway.

When I went to cut out all the white, it was pretty simple. I told it to set the tolerance to 100% and un-checked anti-aliasing. I did that with the inks of that Wakko drawing and I'm pretty happy with the results.

*End Technical Geek Stuff*

I do like the effect it has on Andy Panda and Chilly Willy tho. Helps them stick out more. If you give it a shot, let me know how it turns out. I'd love to see more of your work! =)

Awesome! They look much more like the original characters than the new ones on FOX Kids. Great job!

Wow! Hey, that's cool Jon! I particularly like Woody...you seem to have a reaqlly good feel for the characters. Nice energy through it as said before. They look very "animated"...like they are jumping off the page. What do you do for a living, Jon....'cause if it's something other than cartoon drawing you're in the wrong line of work!

Actually, the designs on the FOX Kids ones were based on the original designs from the 40's and 50's.
