Well, tomorrow I'm getting some baby teeth pulled and on Tuesday I'm getting braces. Merry Christmas, huh? Anyway, I'm kinda nervous about getting my teeth pulled (and braces, though moreso about getting the teeth pulled), so I was wondering if you guys had any advice for this kind of thing.

Braces eh? My friend lost his braces like about a year ago. He said they're annoying like hell.

About the pulling teeth thing, well I haven't had it done, but it shouldn't hurt if they give you the numbers. Too much anyway.

I somehow convinced myself I hated dentists and didn't go for years. When I finally went I couldn't see what I was so afraid of, must've just had a really bad dentist.

Braces are ok though, takes lil getting used to but end result will be worth it, all the best people have them anyway, just ask Lisa Simpson. As for teeth pulling, well assuming they do it the same way there as they do here they'll numb you up so you won't feel a thing. Plus think of all the sympathy you can milk it for having it done at Christmas.

The only really annoying part is when the dentist insists on asking you questions while working...

Well I have them. Trust me you'll wish you could get your teeth pulled 10 times instead of having braces. They are possibly the most annoying thing i've ever had to cope with in my life so just be calm and patient. It will wear off in time.

Heh, gotta milk it for all it's worth:p

And yeah, it's annoying when they ask you questions and you can't answer cause they are messing with your mouth:rolleyes:

But yeah, thanks guys. I'm just nervous about the thought of having teeth pulled out of my mouth, numbed or not. I'm sure it'll be fine, just nervous:sweat:

I've had braces for a couple years now.

Believe me, they're not that bad. After about the first day or so, you forget you have them. And they don't look nerdy either.

Hey at least you don't have my dentist, you'd get used as his equipment rack and would end up soaked through careless use of the water spray when gesturing.

The biggest problem you will likely run into is you're going to have to brush after every meal. Trust me, its not a pretty sight if you don't. >_<

Well I have braces and I'll tell you what's happened to me so far. :)

When I first got them they HURT!

Just trying to chew into a chicken nugget hurt! (It wears off a bit after a few hours, but still hurts. :( )

The pain goes on and stays for the next 3 or 4 days. :(

You get food stuck in your braces and you have to *shudders* manually take it out, unless you'd prefer for the food to stay there.

And when you get the wire changed it hurts too for just a few hours. :anime:

And if you have bands in there with them I've heard that is annoying too.

And if your teeth aren't straight enough they'll put this yellow wire on there that'll stretch out and they'll put on there and that hurts for a day or two.

I have braces too, and they do hurt for a few days, but the pain eventually goes away. I've also had rubber bands, but they were so annoying! I mean, whenever I ate something, one of them was bound to fall off.

Cool! I just got my braces. I'm not sure if you are lucky or not because from pullings to fillings and finally braces took at least half a year for me. I got my teeth pulled in August. 8 in total. Not baby teeth might I add. I got the wisdom teeth pulled first. Later I got the... visible teeth pulled. I asked to be put to sleep each time. When I woke up, my dentist had left me and I felt numb, tired and disoriented. I could barely walk. But I'm telling you, if it's not your wisdom teeth being pulled, it's almost no pain at all. But I'm can only compare it to the wisdom teeth I had pulled first. THAT was excruciating pain. They hadn't grown out of my gums yet, so they had to cut open my gums. I bled sooo much, and I threw up my blood many times. I couldn't eat at all. I could only drink water and it tasted like blood. My whole mouth did. My mom only let me take 2 out of 11 of my pain killers because she was worried I would get addicted. My cheeks swelled up and my sister said I looked like the Godfather. And it took more than a week for it to all finally go away. I'm sure none of you needed to know this but I had fun telling it.
So, getting your baby teeth pulled really shouldn't be too bad, at least for me, it was the most pleasant experience I've had in this braces ordeal.
So, before I could get my braces I had to go get filling after filling, some of which I had spotted myself. Pain and numbness.
I got my brackets on sometime in Sept. I think. They were scratchy inside my lips at first, but it got better pretty soon after.
I finally got my braces on Halloween (Ironically enough. Getting braces on "candy day"). I talked to many people beforehand, all of whom said, "It's gonna hurt!" ... And it did. As the wire was tightened on each bracket, I couldn't believe how painful the tightness was. It was quite ludicrous, as I was laughing in the chair. It felt ok, just a little tight after I left, but later that night it was hell. I went to a cold football game and my mouth felt horrible and eating was painful for a full week I believe. It felt fine after that.
Now I don't have a problem with them, except that the wire was severely scratching the inside of my cheek for a while because of the way it was cut but it's fine now. It only feels a little tight after tightenings, of course. I don't like how my parents have been using them as a reason to rid the house of all tasty treats.
They do get a lot of food stuck in them. Ugh, just today I had this bit of Kale green stuck in my braces in a gap where a tooth was pulled. It was horrible.
Well, I'm sure everyone has enjoyed my in-depth description about my life with braces. :p But seriously, I have only had my braces for almost 3 months now, and they look significantly straighter. The only thing that I don't like is that I feel like I'm constantly grinding them, but it's probably just that they've never all touched this way before. :anime:

BTW: I've also had to get a tongue crib, an appliance similar to a retainer that I can't speak correctly with. I could go into that, but I won't. ;) Or I could go into the glasses I was prescribed for the first time this summer. But I won't. :D Sad that I had to go through all of this going into High School isn't it? :p

I have not had braces yet. As you know I'm 18, and I have been told that I have too many teeth in my mouth, and have been suggested to have the back four teeth taken out and have braces put in but our local dentist doesn't bother doing what is suggested keeps making excuses. He says I need to brush my teeth more, on which I do. When I start driving I'll find another dentist to go to. But I'm glad to hear they are not as bad as I thought, it's just the pain thats bad http://forums.toonzone.net/images/smilies/sweat.gif. *phew*

I got a true, long-term set of braces put on a few months ago...at fifteen.

They're not so bad. The first few days, eating is a chore. Afterwards, they're just there. Plenty of people in school have them, so it's not a stigmatizing thing. The biggest problem would have to be any metal/mouth tissue contact. They can cause scrapes and sores. But my teeth are already looking better, so they're worth it.

I have braces, they're not all that bad. The main problem is when they first put them on, you can't eat anything except soup for a couple of days. The only recurring problem I have is when they don't cut the wire close enough and it scrapes against your gum. Because of that I have two gouges on either sides of my mouth where the braces scrape the gums. Like someone already said, brushing your teeth after every meal becomes a chore, but you get used to all this after a while and it isn't so bad.

I had 4 teeths pulled out because of braces. I can say after your first teeth you get pulled out, the other teeth's pulling won't hurt as much. As for the braces they pratically don't hurt at all except for feeling strange for the first couple of days. Then they'll feel natural. Don't worry it's not as bad as most people think it out to be.

I'm supposed to be getting braces sometime soon, whenever my parents quit arguing over who's gonna pay for them.

Well, I got my teeth pulled this morning. It feels so weird right now. Two gaps in my mouth:sweat: I haven't lost teeth in a long time, so this feels weird. You guys were right, it didn't hurt. Well, when they were numbing my mouth it did a little; the needle kinda hurt when they were doing the roof of my mouth. But I couldn't even tell when they pulled my teeth out, and it was a lot faster than I expected. So then I had to spend an hour with gauze in my mouth, which wasn't exactly fun;) But I took some Advil and they don't hurt or anything. Just figuring out how to eat is kinda hard though. And tomorrow, I get my braces.

Oh yes, I had braces before. It's not fun... they don't hurt to be put in, but they're annoying as hell.

Food will get stuck in them, and there may be times where something comes loose...

And they hurt like hell for the first couple days...

Aw, I don't wanna make you feel bad but... braces aren't fun. :(

Well, I got my top braces in this morning. They feel weird as hell. Plus the separaters feel like food in my teeth I want to get out:sweat: I ate some Ramen when I got home and man was it a chore. And I can feel the tightness. This is seriously going to take some getting used to.

You'll be fine, give it a week and you'll have gotten used to them, two weeks and you'll be forgetting they're there. Merry Christmas. http://forums.toonzone.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Thanks. They're bugging the hell out of me right now. The ortho didn't put all the wires in cause I have to get like 8 more teeth pulled (including wisdom teeth) first, so there is this little bit of wire that keeps scratching my mouth, and the wax doesn't want to stay:mad: And I can't even eat our Christmas cookies. Well I can, it just hurts like a mofo:sweat: Sorry about complaining so much, they're just annoying.

I had a fixed brace on my bottom teeth years ago, I don't even remember how it felt now to be honest. I was kinda lucky though since it didn't stand out that much. But it'll be worth it all in the end and you'll forget all about it soon. I'll save you some Christmas cookies. http://forums.toonzone.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Yeah, I've only gotten the top, and just the front since more teeth have to be pulled. Man that's gonna suck. But oh well. It's best in the long run.

Thanks for the cookies, I'll take you up on those when I can eat again:p

Those cookies are sounding very tempting right now, there's plenty for you, apparently my computer saves them automatically. How often do you have to go back to get your braces checked? Have they said how long they think you'll have to wear them?

Well, my next appointment in on January 6th. They said I'll probably have to wear them a year and a half, so that would be the summer after my junior year...

mmm, cookies. Sounds good right now. I just had a milkshake for breakfast, cause that's all I could manage:sad:

Never had any teeth pulled though I've been told I will need my wisdom teeth pulled. *shivers hope that day never gets here* I had braces though......got them off about two years ago. They are a pain though you get used to them. Glad they're off though. My sister got hers off just in time for Christmas just the other day.

I was quite lucky with wisdom teeth, they made my jaw click and was painful to open mouth occasionally, but I've not had to have them extracted. Not yet anyway, excuse me while I find a nearby forest, with all the horror stories I've heard about it I'd best go touch alot of wood incase I tempt fate too much.

At least I'd be sharing Purple's pain though I guess.http://forums.toonzone.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
