Welcome all you cats and chicks, to the Knights of the Zodiac talkback. Sienna gets kidnapped by Docrates, the insane Socrates, and Seiya and the knights have to save her. Tonight's episode is dedicated to jazz, the music we all love.

I like jazz, but I don't like KOTZ.
Maybe Sienna really wants to be saved from being in a DIC show. But that's something the knights can save her (or us) from. Too bad abou that though.

If Sienna accidentally got blasted with a fire blast (do any of the Seiyas or villains have this kind of power?), would she be Burnt Sienna? :D
If Hyoga had to plunge into the water to save Sienna, would he be taking a Swan dive?

they didn't show the punches hit. Cut the part where docrates grabs seiya and trow him to the floor.
Those guys from dic really suck, they don't show the violent parts. Plus the horrible dialogue.
I'm still thinking, why did they bring Saint Seiya, they don't show the violence.
Besides money, I really don't know why they brought Saint Seiya to US TV.
What's the point of bringin a violence series, if they were gonna cut the violence.
Candy Candy would had been a better choice for those dic guys.

maybe I'm getting used to it, but I thought this episode was very well done.
I even thought there were some pretty funny lines. and they showed the punches when docrates was striking hyoga's back when he was trying to freeze him.

I still don't know about their explanation of the polar bear, man. Most bears don't get out of their way to attack humans. Besides, it was Hyoga's stupid sensei who bothered the bear by freazing its paws. So of course the bear would be pissed at them! PETA would have him jailed. :D

they used the bear as a training.
It was a techinique.
If you frezze the legs, you gain advantage on your enemies, or something like that.
Hyoga remember what his teacher taught him, and use to defeat docrates. That was the whole point. :D

Sadly, I actually have to agree, though this really just makes me want to get the uncut DVD, and probably a frontal lobotomy.

DiC just thought that what they did to Sailor Moon back then would still work now, but since the market has grown so much, it didn't. Couple making really lame dialogue full of bad puns to replace the original, plus getting the violence out, from a really old looking show = disaster. I adore StS, but it's obvious it isn't pretty for TV now (not counting Hades :D). It could still have managed a good following had they left the characters as good as they are, but well, the damage is done. Let's just enjoy the DVDs with the real series, and make fun of the bad puns in this one :D

Yep. That's pure stinking filler courtesy of Toei (thpugh Docrates is filler too, as well as that master they gave Hyouga and the polar bear thing. Toei messed up many things) But I'm looking forward to it, as musouka said: "I don't think it's humanly possible to make those episodes worse than they are, but it's DiC we're talking about. They're up to the challenge" :p

I really don't like the 2 ghost fish episodes.
I like then, but no as much as the others.
I prefer the Gold Saints fights, there are 12 gold saints, each one represent a month or a sign of the zodiac.
ex: If you were born on May or June, the gemini gold saint is your character.

I'm starting to think that ADV sublicensed DiC the rights to StS just so they could see how bad of a job they could do.
...And it's working great.
I'm watching it just to laugh at how bad it is. ^^;

SO my friend it took you about 15 episodes to realize that, you are a slow one aren't you, we've being talking about this for weeks, and if you don't remeber you criticized are opinions, but it's good to see that you finally saw the light....

Yeah, but his master's explanation was something like "when bears see their prey, they never give up hunting it," which is just BS. The polar bear just seemed like that to them because he pissed off the bear soooo much, freezing its legs when it hasn't done anything to him! :D

Since the begining I said, "Knights of the zodiac doesn't compare to the original Saint Seiya". but I'm still watching, just to remember my favorite anime.
The only thing I critized, was the repetition of batmex complains.
He was complaining every day with the same.

I know I said I gave up on this show, but I've been watching it now and then. I can see some really good techniques in animation in this series. Surprising for such an old show how lush and detailed some of the backgrounds are (which back in the day meant hand drawing everything). I can also see the potential in my liking a better version of the series, but I have to see if the action picks up later in the series to consider picking up the DVDs. I want more out of the battles than Seiya and the others doing "that hand thing".

There was a lot more to this episode than it seemed.
This episode was particularly frustrating because every time someone attacked, they cut the actual damage--most noticeable when Seiya tries to kick Docrates and all of a sudden we cut to a picture of him in the ring--and replace it with some stock footage of flashes against a black screen. So, as others have said, they're cutting the fighting from a fighting show.
If you think that it's nothing but repeated poses, then that's probably why. There is action in the original. I don't know if it's to the extent you're looking for, since it is an old show, but I can tell you that it's definitely there.

Yeah, Toei pioneered and invented alot of new animation techniques for Saint Seiya back in the day...this show was actually VERY high quality for it's time.

I've just seen a Saint Seiya episode in Japanese and i loved it because of the Voice actors, in my opinion the japanese have the best Voice actors around because of the tone of the voice and how they really capture the character and not to mention a lot of them are famous music stars in Japan. As for the Docrates episode, i liked it because it wasn't really Seiya that saved the day, it was Hyoga. That's what makes SS different form other animes, you don't have to depend on the main character to save the day everytime.
P.S: Did you know that japanese voice actor who played Shun is the same one who played Vegeta in DBZ

I don't like the japanese voices, plus the majority of people don't know Japanese.
The things I like about Saint Seiya is the background music and the story.
seiya and the others never give up.

That's what subtitles are for.
I do the same for foreign movies. I prefer watching them with the original voices and subs, so they don't look cheesy when they talk. Then again, anime characters don't have voices of their own, so this argument is invalid :D. But still, I do like the japanese voices for StS, it's just that they really match the characters, and you can understand emotions by the tone of the voices.

I like subtitles, and I'm used to them since I've watched anime for more than a decade.
I like the spanish version of Seiya, but it does have some rather questionable translations and some redundant lines like "No tengo que explicar explicaciones" ("I don't have to explain explanations" :p). Not to mention that just about most dubbed series in spanish had the same voices :D. Overall it's a good dub, although I do think some of the japanese voices fit the characters more (and I watched the spanish version first!).

I was talking about the mexican version. If I couldn't even understand all the lyrics from the crappy opening (which was recorded in Spain), I don't want to imagine the Spain dubbed version .
The mexican dub was well done, especially for the main characters. But others were really bad, like Dante and Capella (the silver saints with the discs and ball+chain). The same for the craptacular ghost saints, their voices were horrible.
I'm talking about the spanish version.
I prefer to watch something in English than in japanese.
My stance on this depends on the dubbing. For example, I prefer the english dub of Fruits Basket (minus Ayame's voice, that one sucks ass). But there's no way I'll watch Lost Universe or Crest of the Stars over the japanese versions. And I'm not even mentioning KotZ, which is pure pain (then again, it's not even faithful) :D . But dubs like FruBa, Kiki's Delivery Service and others are certainly very well done. Oh and Slam Dunk mexican dub >>>> japanese version.
