Seriously, is sex illegal in Texas?
When I read stuff (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2003/12/16/MNGEA3O52I1.DTL) like this it makes me wonder.

Texas is a strange and insular place. Sometimes I have trouble believing it's actually part of this country.
What is it with laws like this anyway? I never understand the idea behind things like this. Prohibitions satisfy the consciences of intrusive moralists, but do nothing else positive.
I'm rather prudish myself, but I don't shove it down anyone's throat.

Del...the unintentional comedy contained within your post is absolutely sublime. :D
I read the article (giggling a bit at some of the products the accused sold)...and I can't see any justification for an arrest. By narcotics officers no less. Nothing about this makes sense.
Its a good thing the woman who was arrested wasnt running a S&M clothng and accessories store. They probably would have shot her on the spot.

XD
This is absolutely absurd. It completely blows my mind that they arrested a woman for selling adult toys. Let's just review this, she holds tupper-ware like parties for women who are a bit embarassed to got to the local adult store. Sounds good to me.
Seems odd that they are arresting a woman for selling aids, especially when they're for couples and people trying to become closer in their relationships. Not all people who use this stuff are strange pervies TEXAS! Some are quite normal and just want to have some fun with their BF, GF, Husband, or Wife.
Geez....
Anyway, I giggled like a little school girl as I read some of the product names, but that's just me being my immature self.
Still, people should be allowed to buy this stuff. If not, then what the heck ARE people allowed to do in Texas....?

Why does Texas get picked on all the time? There are crazy laws and crazy things like this happening in all 50 States...
I agree, the law is stupid, and unconstitutional, in fact. I'm also willing to bet that this woman's court case is the one where the law itself gets thrown out. :) Also, I think this is the first time this law was enforced in, like, 50 years.
Texans in general prefer a 'no-nonsense' approach to the law; that's why we have such a low crime rate for such a large and populous state. This approach works well for serious crimes (like murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping, etc.), but sometimes backfires on laws like this. Nothing's perfect, I suppose... :(

I'm not one who's shy to go into an adult store. :D
It's not like she was selling the adult toys to minors.

Why does Texas get picked on all the time?
Because it's TEXAS
They let a sodomy case go to the supreme court. Crazy stuff happens in all 50 states, but states that are famous for stringent laws have to be able to take the hits for it. Admittedly they did go pretty far just to get this chick for this. I mean, the cops didn't happen up on a woman selling sex toys, they posed as a couple having marital problems and made a point to get this woman for selling the items. What on earth for? What does the state or country gain from this?
The answer is nothing, and Texas has just one more example of doing something stupid for no good reason. Well...I guess the state does get 4000 bucks out of it, i'm sure that will go towards education and the betterment of the state, right?

This is just horrible, this woman is being humiliated and punished for helping people.
Anyway I have my opinions about Texas's no-nonsense arpoach to law, but I'll reserve them for now.

At first I thought, "Well, maybe, I guess it could be obscene if she was just going up to random people and trying to sell adult novelty toys", but then I read the article again, and it turned out that they actually went to her and posed as potential customers, and I have to concur that it really is quite ridiculous.
