You know what I don't know right off the back, but my mom would know a lot about it, and I could get you a lot of info tomorrow.

But right now I would say in only certain cases, but that's reall just guessing.

...and apparently, it isn't fatal.

Hmmm....

What kind of a nickname could you give a guy named Travis? I need something embarassing...something kids might call someone in High School...

I tried "Toilet Training" Travis...but is was too long...and hardly funny..

Nevermind. I just realized that I didn't need to include the whole "fatal" part in my use of Tourettes.

And so ends my strangest post...ever.

:o

EDIT: Thanks Wolf :)

Yeah, really... :p

For some reason, I've known quite a few people with Tourette's over the years and they're as healthy as anyone else. It's no more fatal than stuttering, dyslexia, etc...

Wait. This Tourettes syndrme is the same as the one that makes you curse? It can you're most likely to see this in movies but that's not very common. It causes "tics" involuntary, rapid, sudden movements or vocalizations.

Tourettes is fatal to the extent that life is fatal...

I'll second what Twage said. Along the same lines, I have a friend (who happens to be surrounded by touretters, if he's not one himself) who says, "everything causes cancer." So, longevity is a carcinogen.

Words to live by, folks!

It's no more fatal than stuttering, dyslexia, etc...
Perhaps those things aren't inherently fatal, but remember: Pleasantries misunderstood have been the catalyst of intergalactic warfare. "You seem to be problems with your lifestyle"? And then there's that episode of ST:TNG...

"You seem to be problems with your lifestyle"

Heh. I'd forgotten about that.

And for TNG are you talking about the Darmok episode or the one where they meet the race of retarded people? :p

First of all, I seem to be having problems remembering quotes accurately. Besides the fact that I forgot a word, the line (http://www.cgoakley.demon.co.uk/vlhurgs/) is supposed to be "I seem to be having tremendous difficulty with my lifestyle," the result, from the book, being: Unfortunately, in the Vl'hurg tongue this was the most dreadful insult imaginable, and there was nothing for it but to wage terrible war for centuries. Adams' version is way funnier. It's been a few years... :o

But I'm glad someone was able to decipher my message anyway...

Speaking of deciphering messages, my TNG reference was to the episode (http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/st-tng/episodes/113.html) in which they meet the Jarada, who had, if I understood correctly, became undiplomatic when, in the past, someone didn't speak their greeting in a satisfactory manner (the same ep that Picard role-plays Dixon Hill in the holodeck).

As for the episode when they meet the "retarted people," I seem to remember a bit of that, and if it's the one I'm thinking of, it was kinda depressing. :p

You mustn't mean the Pakleds, because they were far from depressing; they were hilarious!

Pakled captain: We look for things.
Riker: What are you looking for?
Pakled captain: Things we need.
Riker (getting annoyed): Can you be a little more specific?
Pakled captain: Things that make us go! :p

P.S. Congratulations on dechipering Magwheel's messages, Twage! I talk to her every day online and I had no idea what she was saying! Haha. (I've read the Adams stuff too, actually, but I didn't get the quote)

ha! Once again, I LOL at the ridicurouslessness. Or maybe I'm deeply hurt... Nah.

And yeah, I think I meant the Pakleds. And yes, they were hilarious, but... still, it was sad. I can't stand to see people suffer in such mental darkness. Poor, slow, Good Ol' Batmanuel Pakleds

Man, don't you hate it when people include entire posts in their replies? (see above)

*ahem*

I mean..."sad"? Just because the whole world is in mental darkness doesn't mean...uh...I mean...Troi warned Riker that they weren't what they appeared to be, then they kidnapped Geordi and shot him! "We like shields!" they proclaimed in seeming innocence. In the end, they were suckered badly, but the events leading up to the end are a powerful lesson for all.

...don't...

that better? ;)

man, this is the most friendly off-topic thread I've ever seen. But it's still off-topic, even for an off-topic board. I wonder what DisneyBoy thinks of all this.

Actually, I'm interested in knowing more about this script you were supposed to write. You in some sort of writing class? And why Tourette's syndrome?

Yeah, the swearing thing, if I remember correctly, occurs in less than 30% of Tourettes cases. As you say, that aspect is usually found in movies because people think it's funny. In reality, the worst you'll probably hear is a sudden "woo!" or something. Even those that do have the swearing problem can be quite good at controlling it.

I'd also like to know what this script thing is you did, DisneyBoy. That "Toilet Training" Travis thing makes me think of Garbage Pail Kids and has piqued my interest. Heh. :)
