View Full Version : A Theory About Adult Swim's Wierd & Stupid Schedule

You all notice the schedule change & I have a theory about it. It seems that it just a rotation thing. Notice how a short but sometimes funny show(Oblongs) filling the void of a great show(Home Movies). & a great fan favorite(Lupin) cancelled due to ratings & said comedy is killing the anime slot but a a great anime(FLCL) is a comedy & a stupid show(Reign) take it's place. Rotation could be the answer, or the programmers are stupid & can't tell good or bad.

I fail to see what's so weird and/or stupid about it.
I love Furi Kuri, don't get me wrong. It's at the top of my list. But Reign's good, too, and I see no need to continually recycle shows until they become tired.
I want Lupin to return, but I can understand their reasoning. When you're getting poor ratings, it's kind of hard to justify airing something, especially when you can put something else on that will do better.
Good shows + Bad ratings = No more Adult Swim.
Good shows + Good ratings = Adult Swim continues to succeed.
Not too hard to figure out. The Oblongs doesn't really qualify under "good shows," in my book, but it's only replacing other reruns, so it's hardly a big deal.

normally these days I don't care about schedule changes. A change is something I look forward to when a show is run into the ground too much in constant non-stop runs (bebop, despite the fact that I love it). That's why I enjoy seeing the return of Inu, or FLCL, or Kikaider.
but there's one anime that just shoots my beliefs to hell...
Reign...why god why...

Very few people on this board like Reign, however this board is not at all an accurate indication of the overall AS audience. If it was a good example of the overall audience The Oblongs and The Brak Show would be a lot more popular here.
Reign is probably very much a love it or hate it show. Many may not like it, but I doubt few could actually say from a critical perspective that it is truly bad. For instance, the character designs may be a style that many don't like, but they aren't truly bad, just a style that is dislike by certain people.
I would like to see Lupin back on also, but in all fairness Reign has been off the block longer than Lupin has. Also, as indicated by the few people who have spoken up, Reign does have its fans and they deserve the right to see their show also. As for myself, I wouldn't say it is one of my favorite shows by any means, but I do find it somewhat interesting. I can definitely up the number of people that like it up to at least 3 though, my Mom likes Reign (no joke, she can't stand Lupin, but she really likes Reign and Big O).
What do the Inu Yasha fans do when their show is taken off? They complain, complain and complain some more. It's the same thing here; Reign is on instead of whatever your favorite show might be. Every show has its fans and every fan, even if they are a Reign fan, deserves the chance to see their show. It'll be the turn for fans of a different show soon enough.
Finally, I would say this may actually increase the chances of Lupin being back on the air in a late spot. People seemed to think that Reign would never air again and yet it is coming back. Maybe Lupin will do the same. If I recall correctly, Williams St. said Lupin was rotated off due to low ratings. However, they never said it wouldn't come back. The Triguns and Bebops may bring in higher ratings, but they won't if they are run endlessly. Sometimes you have to break them up with the Reigns, Kikaiders, Lupins, etc.

I'm definately not a fan or Reign, but I'm not upset that it's coming back. I am kind of bothered that they will put Reign on before Lupin though. As bad as Lupin's ratings apparently were, they couldn't have been worse than Reign's.
Not like I really care either way though. With everything in reruns except the WS originals, I've just gone back to watching WWE, South Park, and Tough Crowd limiting AS to pretty much Sundays and Tuesdays.

I was rather surprised about them bringing reign back. It was my understanding that Lupin had WAY more fans than Reign did. When Reign was showing, there was much complaining. A few of us liked it. A lot of us thought the character design was creepy (I saw the stupid card that said it was for the girls! HAH! Jigen is way better looking than alexander)
I can argue the multipe reasons why I hated this show. I won't waste my time, I did that when Reign was on tv. But I think Don is right. Would Lupin have had such low ratings if it hadn't been shuffled on and off and moved around so much? I'll bet even Bebop would have gotten low ratings if that show had been treated that way.

They didn't give Kikaider a full run I noticed, they didn't air ep. 13-16 before replacing it. I don't care about Reign.

Lupin has been played during the 12 midnight anime premiere slot.
Twice.
So I think they've given it a fair chance. Unfortunately, the majority didn't like it (I happen to love the show) and so it got moved back to the netherregions of the block.
It's not like their treatment of, say, Blue Gender, which has never gotten the 12 midnight slot.

Reign's at 1:30 and you'll never be up to watch it, so what's the big deal? If you've seen FLCL at least 5 times, you won't be so inclined to keep watching it.

They really should Utillize the 2-5 slots for different programming.

I say down with the Jim Crow laws! No more separate but equal! The Segregation of Anime and Action must END! Either that or replace AS with a block of Ed, Edd, and Eddy...

I like Reign too :D I thought it went over pretty well here though. Go to other forums, particularly the offical site one and its non stop bashing, the most intelligent of which essentially states:
"This sohw sux bcause dey have men in skimpi close!"
Its Kikaider and Blue Gender that I can't stand :p I don't really care whats on the schedule though since if its repeats I'll watch the first hour only anyway.

Yes they did. They delayed everything by a week so that Kikaider would finish.

they didn't air the OVA episodes though :( which made me sad.
and Reign is for girls? well that could be why I don't hate it  I'm glad its coming back. it hasn't been shown in over half a year and with nothing else new action coming this year its good to mix up the schedule. http://members.aol.com/kimminakochan/chicken.gif

Really? It hasn't seemed like that long. When did it last air?
Also, I think it's good that William C. Maune comes here every so often to explain things. His explanations have a certain element that makes them easy to understand. He's definitely a voice of reason.

Lupin is a fun show to watch. I always dislike this bias between only American comedies and anime action shows on Adult Swim.
If WS would listen to the fans, I think this wouldn't happen.

The OVA's are the four episodes featuring Kikaider and Kikaider 01 vs. Gill Hakaider. And AS did air them at least twice if I recall.
