This is a place where old cartoons that nobody watches airs anyway. This is where the classics live free and thrive. So why not invade late night sections of it with Lupin III, Saint Seiya, Ronin Warriors, Mobile Suit Gundam and the rest of the 80's early 90's Gundams that CN feels too chance to air on CN, because of the low ratings that old shows get.

Hook them up on Boomerang and I don't see why they wouldn't see a sudden spike in ratings around an old school anime/action block.

Lupin could air at 1:00 AM or something, but the others couldn't. Boomerang is comercial (sp) free, so they couldn't afford any new shows. CN lost the rights to all the Gundam Series besides G Gundam, SD Gundam, and maybe Chars Counter Attack.

If they did start airing adds, it would be a great idea.

Boomerang may be commercial free, but they do show some things that AOLTimeWarner doesn't already own such as Smurfs and HarveyToons (sp?). Plus, Disney Channel is commercial free and they show all kinds of stuff. I can't say I know how the commercial-free business model for a television channel works, but based on Disney's success it certainly seems feasible.

I really like John's idea, especially for things we know they have like Lupin. They might as well put it on somewhere and I don't think there is much risk at all in putting it on late on Boomerang. Boomerang wouldn't even have to tell folks it was anime. It would be interesting to see what kind of reaction it would get.

Saint Seiya is known as Knights of the Zodiac on CN (but the REAL version is available on DVD thanks to ADV which is the version you should be watching).

Anyway, that sounds like a great idea! They already have something called Boomeraction, don't they? They could certainly spruce it up with those.

Saint Seiya airs on Cartoon Network weekly at 12:30AM every Sunday (that wasn't a typo) on the Saturday Video Entertainment System block, but it's known as "Knights of the Zodiac" in the USA. *goes into advertising mode* And the manga chapters will be available soon from Viz Graphic Novels! Yeah, but ToonDisney isn't commercial free. It's enough to make you stroke your chin and think aimlessly about it.
*does the above action* Hmmm.....

I dont know if CN still has the rights to all of these shows, but I would like to see a block with Thundercats, Ronin Warriors, Lupin the 3rd, and Voltron. The only one I know they still have is Lupin. If they were to get some new shows for an old school anime block the show I would put on the top of that list would be Transformers because of the already well established fanbase for the series.

Toonami on Boomerang is quite feasible. Though they don't have the old Gundams, Ronin Warriors, Voltron, etc.

They do have Swat Cats, Captain Planet, Pirates of Darkwater, Young Robinhood, The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, Knights of the Zodiac, Centrurions, The Superfriends, Thundercats, Silverhawks, GI-Joe, Herculoids, Birdman, Space Ghost, etc.

It could basically be the Roulete with some other shows.

They could get crazy and air old Dragonball Z if they wanted or the significantly more vintage feeling Dragonball.

As for Adult Swim. I think only Lupin fits that category at the moment.

Many of the shows I listed above air on Boomerang on the weekends, but they could sensibly air on the weekdays.

So you know what time it is...

Toonami on Boomerang schedule: (I think prime time would be best)

08:00 - The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest
08:30 - Swat Cats
09:00 - Young Robin Hood
09:30 - Silverhawks
10:00 - Thundercats
10:30 - GI-Joe
11:00 - Pirates of Dark Water
11:30 - Knights of the Zodiac
12:00 - The Roulete
12:30 - The Roulete
01:00 - Lupin the 3rd
01:30 - Lupin the 3rd
Then possibly some repeated programing until the morning.

This could change overtime but this would be a nice start. Of course if I had my druthers... TMNT and Transformers: G1 would be on this as well, but I don't think Boomerang would pick them up.

I like the concept, but it doesn't seem to fit with Boomerang's target audience.

Boomerang. Aimed at baby boomers and their sense of nostaliga.

Knights of the Zodiac, Rupan, Gundam, and the like are old series; but they didn't air in the United States until recently. No nostaliga here. Wouldn't work.

True but there are still plenty of action shows that did air back then in the US which Boomerang currently airs or could air because they have access to them.

I say, frell the Boomers. I mean, they have the whole rest of the channel during the more prime times and this block to actually get good use out of Lupin, MSG, and Saint Seiya would be at the very most, three hours out of the day.

Boomers and children still get 21 hours of the channel dedicated to their stuff and oldies but goodies would finally get a chance to shine.

A Boomeraction block would definatly add some much needed variety to the channel. I like Hyper Luigi's schedule, although Real Adventures of Jonny Quest might be a little too new for the block, but I wouldn't complain if it were on there. Thundercats, Silverhawks, Centurions, Thundarr, and G.I. Joe would be particulary good for the block, considering how big 80s nostalgia is these days.

I've heard CN also has access to Sectaurs due to WB owning the rights. They could air that as a friday only thing, seeing how there were only five episodes made, since they were never got picked up for a series run like G.I. Joe or Ninja Turtles did.

I'm with Thrax, it just wouldn't work.

I dunno. Maybe not a Boomami but maybe it should broaden its horizons like TV Land did. Those who have had it a few years ago remember how it used to be - bumpers were still shots of a suburb, most of the shows were from the 50s-70s. Now the on-air look is more contemporary, and there's more 80s shows mixed in with the older stuff./ It's more like just the "best of television".

Boomerang should, in my mind, be just like that. The best of animation, not just for older people. From the 60s shows to the 80s shows. It would take some money to acquire all this but it would be the destination for animation fans. Unfortunately, some people at the network think the channel is targeted towards infants. It isn't and never should be: it should be animation's TV Land.

Just my two cents on the thing.

The scary part is that someday Ed, Edd, n' Eddy and the PPGs and the like are going to be on Boomerang someday O_o Don't deny.

Boomerang's too boring anyway. Change it.

I'd probably only watch a Boomerang-action block if it were old-school cartoons (i.e. up to the 80's)----stuff like the Herculoids, Jonny Quest, etc. Not being an anime fan, I already feel annoyed that I don't have anything to watch on CN during late-nights (it all seems to be almost nothing but anime shows on CN from around 10 or 11 PM [not counting "Futurama" and the generally-disliked-by-me "Family Guy"] up to 3 or 4 AM,from what I can tell in the TV guide), and (if I actually *received* Boomerang on cable) don't think I need another cartoon channel devoted to rerunning "Ultra Cyber Neo-Hoosier Beebop-a-looza Techno-Force Z" or whatever... ;-)
