There's one particular shot in episode #5 of FLCL that I never hear anyone try to analyze. When Ninamori is given the watergun, and she holds it up to the light to examine it, and the green plastic is reflected on her face. This wasn't animated for nothing, but what was it supposed to mean? Any thoughts?

Well, notice who's in the background that you see through the water in the gun. Mamimi. At this point in the series, Ninamori is the most mature of the characters (well except maybe for Atomsk/Canti but I'm not even going into that...) What episode is this? The episode where Naota comes clean to Mamimi about his feelings and sets in motion Mamimi's actions in episode 6.

Like the clear water washes away dirt and reveals, so does the maturity she is forced to display by rejecting Naota destroy the defenses she has put around herself (like the hounding of Naota). The cat leaves too, and she has no one, she is left stripped naked.... only the Terminal Core her friend.
