Gah, why did CN pan & scan Chicken Scratch? What's worse is they left the title screen in WS which was very misleading. They also failed to credit the team who animated Chicken Scratch. :(

The Future Of Labs, A Short From The Past, And Could That Presently End The Dexter's Laboratory Episode Review of "The Lab Of Tommorow"/"Chicken Scratch"/"Garage Sale".

"The Lab Of Tommorow"- Probably the best short of the three. Felt like one of those classic cartoon shorts about various rooms/items of tommorow (espically the "take this and that and get this" little scene) only with Dexter's Lab in it. If anything, it shows that DL can churn in a little parody if it wants, even though it dosen't take any risks with the forumla. B+

"Chicken Scratch"- "No Sir, I did not like it". It's a line from Mr. Horse of the Spumco show Ren and Stimpy. I said it because the animation from this episode is based off a Spumco short, but done really horribly. I'm no animator, but jesus, this looked plain sickening. Really bad plot too. If you scatch chicken pocks you become a chicken. What kind of lesson is that? Oh well, at least the title was pretty catchy, and the scene with Dexter asking that robot to shoot him if he scratches was funny... if overdone. C-/D+

"Garage Sale"- Very meh episode. It's not really any series ender either. It has the same continuity enders a lot of DL episodes have. At least this one had a few jokes in it (Dexter's Dad sneaking around a the beginning, Dee Dee wanting to buy Dexter's Lab, Mandark in the tub playing with Dexter's Device) but it just really wasn't worth that much of my time due the rest of the scenes being pretty flat and dull (and the mutation ray turning Dexter into a smelly pile was a really bad ending). C+

Overall: C+

I think this was the first time they had an episode that had a 4 minute, 6 minute, and 11 minute short in it.

I beg to differ.

Chicken Scratch took the animation style of the original Dexter shorts and magnified their quality by 10000000000%. They may seem Spumco-ish, but consider the fact that the original Dexters were animated in the same way. Although, yes, some Spumco animators worked on the short.

Theres one thing about Chicken Scratch: Dexter's voiced by Christine Cavangah!

(Cause Chicken Scratch was like a "Pilot" episode for the new Dexters... go figure).

HEHEHEH... this has to be my best review yet! If you havent read my reviews for shows you should read this, its damn hilarious, nothing funnier than someone flaming an episode. So go on read my review!

Summary: First one great, second one bloody awful and an Insult to Genndy, third one average.

The Lab of Tommorow: (Written by Charlie Bean, Directed by Don Judge and Chris Savino)
I really enjoyed this episode. Once again the writters at Dexter's Lab can do a good job at parodizing stuff. This time, the classic cartoon "of the future" shorts. It felt just like one but with Dexter characters. Although it seemed a bit short...
A-

Chicken Scracth: (Written by ???, Directed by Genndy Tartaksovy)
Ok i was looking forward to this episode the second i saw that Genndy directed this, but after the episode was over i said in my mind:

WTF WAS THIS?!!?!??!?!?!?! HOW COULD GENNDY LET CRAP LIKE THIS BE DIRECTED BY HIM?

-pants slows down- ok... now that i calmed down i can tell you how much this episode sucked. Well first of the... um... the animation sucked, it looked like they scribbled a certain color everywhere, the character designs sucked too, although there was only Dexter and Dee Dee (Thank god, I wouldnt want to see Dad in that animation style...) And once again Spumco messed up another episode that COULD of been good (just like Sore Eyes). The whole thing was gross, exposing Dexter's body so it can be gross (but in there view its "funny"). There was 2 good parts of the episode though, the Robot Zapping Dexter if he scratched, and the "protecting the scratching" suit or whatever. The rest of the episode was a damn struggle to watch... I also feel sorry for the people who watched the Powerpuff Girl Movie and had to sit through this, ON A FULL SCREEN! This all gives this episode the pittful grade between an F and an F+.

Garage Sale: (Written by Cindy Morrow, Directed by Don Judge and Chris Savino)After my eyes stopped bleeding from Chicken Scratches I managed to catch this episode (Although missed the commercial break and the first 10 seconds of this episode). Anyways, I thought that it was your above average episode. I think if they have a season 5 they should make them all 11/11 minute episodes, i think it works way better for that... anyways the highlights was Dad not wanting to sell his stuff (All that stuff going off in the middle of the night while crossing off the sign), Dexter trying to stop Mandark from buying the invention. Although the ending was more bad than it was good... this gives the episode a B/B+

The Lab of Tommorow: A-
Chicken Scratches: F/F+
Garage Sale: B/B+

Final Grade: C

Overall your average episode of Dexter's Lab (if chicken scratches wasnt there), if they only took out Chicken Scratches and put in another episode... like Dial M for Monkey: Barbaquor or whatever, that would of been perfect seeing a "Banned" episode (banned because of the gay thing... pathetic, and ive seen them get away with MUCH worse stuff than that in this series), but it was never going to happen, Chicken Scratches prevented some people from seeing the final episode. Spumco must stay FAR away from Dexters Lab. Alright im done I hope you enjoyed the damn review, this is my biggest one ^_^

Oh yeah and a note to Matt: They DID credit Chicken Scratches, at the very end of the credits (I didnt read any of the text though).

"Lab of Tomorrow" was the best of the three episodes. Great homage to Tex Avery's "Tomorrow" cartoons (TV of Tomorrow, House of Tomorrow, Car of Tomorrow, and Farm of Tomorrow). The scene where DeeDee enters her own lab, and smashes into a brick wall, reminds me of all the gadgets specifically designed for "the mother in law" : priceless comedy!

Ed, Edd, n Eddy

Hehe. I liked this one. Missed the stealth premiere (Who wouldn't?), but now I get to see the actual premiere. The first episode... "I'd swear, but standards won't let me" was more funny than I expected. Could've been better, but it was still good. BTW, this is the only time in the series you get to see one of the Kankers kiss an Ed without cutting away.

As for the second episode, it was decent, but the ending was pretty pathetic.

Grade: B+

Dexter's Lab

Lab of Tomorrow was actually good.

As for the other two... puh. Garage Sale was barely watchable, but Chicken Scratch? God, that sucked! I mean, c'mon, scratch yourself and turn into a chicken? WTF is this? The scene where Dexter tapes himself to that huge tower... that was hard to watch. I know how it feels when you're itching somewhere and you don't/can't scratch it and the GODFORSAKEN THING JUST WON'T GO AWAY! Ahem...

So Garage Sale ends it? Meh, Last But Not Beast was a good series-ender, I don't know why they felt it was neccessary to continue the show. Mandark just hops out of the bath and says "Now that you're in no condition to stop me I'm going to destroy your lab! *annoying laugh*" *sigh*

It gets a C, a B- if it wasn't for Chicken Scratch at the end.
