View Full Version : No new Action shows in December :(

Just checked the schedule for December and it seems that there are the same old shows for December, nothing new at all! How much longer will Adult Swim live without new action stuff!!!!!! Anyways, same schedule as November until Dec.22 when its:
12- Inuyasha
12.5- Big O
1-Trigun
1.5- Bebop
They could at least bring back Lupin or Kikaider instead of Bebop or Trigun...
Van Gogh

I thought kikaider is airing right now. Although I'm not too sure since I haven't been watching as much AS as I used to after the last episode of Blue Gender and Inuyasha.
Well, here's hoping that there's gonna be a splash of new great animes come January.

Only thing going on seems to be new Williams Street, especially new Space Ghosts.
More than enough for me.
I'm sure AS will get some anime soon.

They already said there was nothing left for 2003, dudes.
Inuyasha will/should be the first new program out of the gate in 2004 with 52 new episodes.
And more action stuff will come, but you just have to wait until the ball drops.

No Lupin?! Trigun still? What the hell?

Lupin III is dead, man. 70s Animation = turn-off to 14 year-old-fangirls who want to see InuYasha and Kagome get it on.
Yeah, but Blue Gender is even more hated, and Trigun is overplayed. There are complaints.

I know. Unlike the God-like masterpiece that is Bebop, BG and Trigun get old half-way through the first run. But, oh well, just got to get the DVDs. =(

Hmmmm, I wonder why they can break show running on December 25th to show the Futurama Christmas special but not the Family Guy one (and Big O one, while I think about it. Yeah, it's Heavans Day, but we all know what it really is right). Then again, knowing CN's usual Christmas plans, I doubt they would even have Adult Swim on, unless it's a special Holiday running:
Wishful Adult Swim Christmas Schedule (On December 24th)
11:00 P.M Futurama "X-Mas Story"
11:30 P.M Futurama "A Tale Of Two Santas"
12:00 A.M Family Guy "A Freakin Family Guy Christmas"
12:30 A.M Aqua Teen Hunger Force "Mail Order Bride"
12:45 A.M Aqua Teen Hunger Force "Cybernetic Ghost Of Christmas Past From The Future"
1:00 A.M Big O "Dameonseed"
1:30 A.M Lupin The Third "The Slight Before Christmas" (Yeah, I know that Lupin's not on CN, but maybe CN could open they're hearts for a minute and put the Christmas episode on for a day).
2:00 A.M Space Ghost Coast To Coast Christmas Special (didn't think I would forget about this, did you).

Two random Inuyasha questions:
1) I was thinking, since Inuyasha is going to have 52 new episodes, instead of showing most of them at one time, wouldn't it be a good idea to put it in a Sunday slot and have one new episode a week (meaning a new episode every week for the rest of the year, possible ratings build-up for that slot and another vacant timeslot during the week)?
2) Shouldn't the past few episodes that aired be counted as a third season (beginning with the first episode with "Dearest" as the ending)?

Why? Did you think there was going to be? As far as we know there's nothing anime-wise until Spring, and that's still enigmatic.

Ya know, I woke up this morning and I thought, "Gee, I wonder if I can read a bunch of people complaining about not getting more free stuff than they've already gotten today!" Thanks for making my dream come true, guys.
I want everybody to count up the number of new anime licenses Cartoon Network has bought up over the past year. It's okay, I'll wait.
Now I want everybody to count up the number of new anime licenses EVERY OTHER TELEVISION STATION IN AMERICA COMBINED has bought up over the past year.
Now I want everybody to compare the numbers.
Now I want everybody to stop whining and enjoy what they have. 'Kay? 'Kay.
Jeez, a few months of reruns and you'd think your water bottles had just run out in the middle of the Sahara. After all the back-bending WS has done to try to please you, and all you can do is scarf it up and then look around and go, "What, that's it?"

Regardless of what any other channel has done, Williams Street has brought us a ton of new anime this year. Just off the top of my head:
Char's Counterattack
Lupin III
Trigun
Inu Yasha (new episodes)
Big O II
Blue Gender
FLCL
Kikaider
Reign the Conqueror
I think I got them all. Thats 8 TV series and a movie. Pretty damn good, especially considering that you got a considerable amount of episodes (~30+ I believe) with Inu Yasha. What a lot of people seem to forget is that Williams Street gave us FOUR new animes in August(Well technically 3 new animes and new season of Inu Yasha). It was amazing, but it also blew right through their entire supply of new stuff for the rest of the year. I'm not gonna complain about the lack of new anime the last few months because of that although I do hope that in the future WS does not blow through its new stuff that fast. One of the reasons why I don't mind waiting 6 months or even more for new Inu Yasha.

I think you've inspired me to start a thread about how FLCL will never be aired on CN. And while we're on the topic of "what's the point of reading if it's not first class literature", I might as well ask what's the point of coming here at all? Toons aren't all that important in the grand scheme of life, so why waste more of our time waxing poetic about them? Oh yeah, fun.

Two random Inuyasha questions:

I certainty hope not! CN seems to have a problem getting though a 26-30+ episode series if shown on weekly basis. MS Gundam and Dragonball(Z) are two examples that come to mind, granted the shows are mostly repeats. But, I have not yet seen the end of MS Gundam.
Anyway, I'm glad there are no new shows in December. I'm going to be busy in December and I don't want to miss anything new.

With rare exception, CN/AS has shown good taste in the anime it selects. Most of what it's shown has been decent to excellent. Seldom any real stinker. If the WHR dub really sucked badly, I doubt they'd buy it.
They don't have to settle for crap. CN/AS is offered as part of the basic cable package on most every cable system in the country plus all the satellite services. Most of the competing TV anime outlets are in the middle or upper programming tiers, when they are offered at all.
Right now, Cartoon Network is the 800 lb. gorilla of TV anime. As a near-universally-available channel, it offers the best possible exposure for an anime distributor eager to gain recognition. So they probably get pitches for far more shows than they have money or room for. (^_*)

I haven't heard it yet, but several folks from DubReview I know have heard it, and they apparently like it.
If what Ryan Mathews says in his latest column (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/columns/DubTrack.php?id=18) is correct, the biggest problem with the dub is it has unnatural pauses in the dialogue that makes the otherwise excellent voice actors sound flat. This caused him to give the dub two stars out of four. Interestingly enough, a friend of his who helped him choose samples of the dub wasn't bothered by the pauses at all.
I'm not going to pass judgement on the dub until I hear it for myself, because I have enjoyed some dubs that others have called horrible (dubs I won't name for fear of being lampooned  )

Anyhoo, looking at his three provided clips...first of all, you'd be hard pressed to be able to hear any of them, since they are apparently coded in the lowest quality known to man. I can more or less understand them since I remember the scenes from when I watched the DVD. Anyway, on the first two, I didn't notice any pauses. On the third, about the eye exam, there is a pause, but I thought it was effective in showing Amon's frustration. There's a thing called acting, you know, that you use to display emotions, and sometimes using a pause is effective. I don't think Mr. Mathews realizes that.

I'm not upset about the lack of action this month. I'm pretty happy actully. I just wish WS had streched it out a little. They should have aired the new Inu-Yasha episodes first so they could shut the AS.com boards up. Then air Blue Gender, and after they finish it, air FLCL.
Still, the reruns this month are going to be just as good. It's been a while since I've seen the early Inu-Yasha episodes, and the Big O reruns will be great to see again. I never get tired of Bebop either. The only thing I'm unhappy about is Trigun. It needs a three-four month break. Why not Kikader? It's only had three or four runs, even Lupin got more than that!

I think that Lupin only got 3.5 (full) runs if I'm not mistatken. I'm not complaining about them not acquiring enough action, but I do want to see stuff that hasn't been seen for a while. I'd actually like to see the anime go on a little hiatus for a while and see more comedy shows appear on the roster instead:
11:00 Family Guy (whatever would air first)
11:30 Futurama
12:00 Space Ghost Coast to Coast
12:15 Roulette: (Sealab, Aqua Teen, Brak, Birdaman)
12:30 Home Movies
1:00 Big O
1:30 Lupin III
Do this schedule for a few weeks and come back with a totally fresh, reconciled Action block.

You have to realize that the column's part of a huge website, so the author most likely only has a limited space to work with. With the number of visitors that ANN gets per day, it's understandable that there would be restrictions on the size of any bandwidth-killing media files a columnist may want to post.
I don't know what you're talking about. I heard all the unnatural-sounding pauses in all the audio clips (the second one didn't sound odd to me, but even the reviewer admitted to that), and the reviewer is right--they do sound pretty bad. Maybe you need to listen to it again.
"You really can see...into peoples' hearts"
"Yeah, that was easy enough to see...without much help"
"You're eye exam took...two hours"
Having pauses in the...middle of sentences like...that just sounds completely unnatural. To suggest that the pauses actually...help the believe-ablity of the lines...is just ludicrous. Sometimes a...pause is effective, but in the examples displayed in the review, the only thing they did was make the performance sound disjointed and awkward.
This isn't an example of "good acting." It's an example of a poor script.

I agree, I'm actually bothered by the fact that they are reshowing the six episodes over and over again, and having Blue Gender's new run go to 1:30.
I'm going to have to hold off on any of the AS FlCl runs, becuase I don't want to get tired of it before I get the DvD's on Christmas.
I'm sure that AS will get some good new action soon, so I'm not going to get upset over no new shows now, I'll just anticipate the next big thing.

Because there's so much stuff hidden in FLCL, every time I watch it, it makes more sense. Despite it only being 6 episodes, it has really high rewatch value.

I just hope it doesn't become a matter of people disliking it due to overplaying. =\
Cowboy Bebop's been on for a longer time than FLCL and people still respect it. I think it'll just become a matter of people getting tired of it rather than hating it. And six episodes does and will get old very quickly.

When CB was first taken off the air, everyone who had been watching through 2 or more runs said fine, and only those who missed a bunch of episodes were bothered. With FLCL it would be better to make it a once a week show than to show those 6 so much.
