Which show did you enjoy most?

This thread goes back to The Landstander's post in August before Big O Season 2, FLCL, and Blue Gender started. The consensus then was that pretty much everyone was waiting for FLCL. Now that all three shows are over, which did you think was best?

I am probably in the vast minority when I say this, but from start to finish I thought Blue Gender was the best of the three. Like most of the others who liked the show I was disappointed in the ending, but it was no worse than what Big O's was, assuming that is the ending.

Big O's ending was a "WTF?!" type ending.

Blue Gender's problem is that it went on for about two episodes longer than it should have.

And don't get me started about FLCL. Total crap, in my book.

While I'm sure lots of people will say FLCL, but even though we could have analyzed FLCL until Freud, Jung and Erickson (Is he dead yet? I think he's dead.) turned over in their graves Big-O has 'em beat.

Not only was a good show, but the anticipation and wating an entire week for new episodes as opposed to one night probably skewed my enjoyment of the show. Since the episodes were drawn out we got a chance to establish a rapport with these characters that we didn't get to do in FLCL because it was so short, and in Blue Gender because well.... it took so long to get going and because it too was over in so short a time.

Plus the stunt of re-airing Act: 20 and tonights jokes, gave us a reason to invest (at least a little) on an emotional level in Big-O which is something the other shows just didn't get the time to make us do.

Big O, by far. Even before Season 2, Big O was one of my three favorite anime, and Season 2, for the most part, blew away all of my expectations. Even if I am still trying to digest Episode 26...

Big O season 2 was excellent, but FLCL is possibly my favorite anime of all time. Have to go with FLCL.

And I didn't really enjoy Blue Gender at all. Not that's it's bad. I just could never pay attention to the earlier episodes (which are a tad on the dull side) so when the better later episodes started airing, I would be totally confused and not watch them either.

I went with Big O Season 2, but at this point that says more about how little I liked the other two than anything else. *sigh*

On my old poll, I voted for FLCL, and I was right.

Blue Gender bored me (I gave up after 3 episodes). Mediocre, WS probably just wanted to fill up time.

Big O was great, a very close second, but...

FLCL was just so damn good. Some say its only good the first time, but I like it more each time I see it. It's an ingenious telling of a rather simple story.

Though, for the record (based on an AIM convo):
Big O's Story > FLCL's Story
but...
FLCL's Style of Storytelling > Big O's Style of Storytelling

For me it will have to be a tie between Blue gender and the Big O. Why, blue gender? Well because it just had alot of emotion and drama, it was really good. The animation in the final episodes was very nice for a traditional animated series. The Big O well the story was amazing with amazing animation and well the ending ;)

Flcl, I think I should rewatch because I think I was expecting something different but I should maybe rent or buy the dvds and see it again from a different prespective.

I never liked Big O and its actually in my list for one of the most forgettable animes I ever seen.

FLCL and Blue Gender r both equally enjoyable so it was a toss up for me. I voted Blue Gender simply coz its not getting any votes.

I think that it's easy to vote for Fooly Cooly simply becuase it only had 6 episodes. It's relatively easy to make something good with only that many episodes, but Big O went beyond just entertainment for a couple of hours. It went even furthur to develop more of a relationship to the charecters and give a bit more detail in the story. Even if ep. 26 was horrible, the series was still pretty damn good.

If Fooly Cooly continued (which it should have) then it probably would be one of the best anime's out there. It certainly has the most potential out of the three.

Blue Gender was just average.

So my vote goes to Big O. :)

Hmm it took a while but FLCL finally pulled ahead of Big-O. Still though while FLCL is quirky and fun to dissect, whenever I watch Big-O I have the sense I'm watching something great....

No contest, it's FLCL for me. Big O was only good for the first season and Blue Gender, yech, especially when CN got rid of all the sex stuff, even when it was something as innocent as a simple display of affection. I can understand if CN doesn't want to show people actually having sex, but they should have left the implied sexual stuff alone, including when people say the word "sex" or refer to it.

Anyway, back on the subject, FLCL is the trippiest, most engaging ASA show I've ever seen. The only downside is that it lasted six episodes.

I had to go with Big O S2. Fooly Cooly was good, but unless you read " Fooly Cooly for Dummys" (otherwise known as the FLCL Talkback thread.) It was an
A- anime. Blue Gender didn't really get good untill the middle of the series.

FLCL by far, Big O was good but simply can't compete with the genius of FLCL. And Blue Gender well, we'll just say I don't have many positive things to say about it, I just couldn't get into it.

I had to go with The Big O s2 beacuse I could only see it on CN and I already had plans to get FLCL(which I have now) So in short I love both but since my money went to FLCL so the vote goes to Big O.The money will go to Big O to so maby this is pointless......naw.
Blue Gender was........yes intresting but not really my cup o bloody mayham so.......Big O it is!

Well, FLCL sucked. It just threw in a bunch of references and expected people to laugh. I'm sorry, but drawing characters like South Park characters isn't funny, you have to actually DO something with it. Couldn't they find a way to satirize South Park? Oh, oops, I'm sorry, that would require creativity...

Big O turned out to be just another Eva ripoff. Pilot Candidate was one Eva ripoff too many, we really didn't need Big O.

Blue Gender was cool up until the ending that made no sense. Blue Gender wins.

I gave my vote to FLCL. For a series so short, it blew my mind, and it was fun to read everybody's comment about the show on the internet. Big O is another series I liked but, I could only vote once. I didn't get into Blue Gender even though I watched the whole series. I just have problems with so many aspects with the show.

FLCL, by quite a margin. Big O takes second position but it's still waaaay ahead of Blue Gender.


First off, FLCL did a whole lot of things right, mainly the music and the fast pacing that fit the mood of the story. Big O also did alot of things right, and it's slow pacing fit the mood of it's story just the same. I didn't find the ending bad because I felt that there were alot of hints being dropped to show what direction the show was going in. Blue Gender: there were just too many shots of Yuji with his eyes wide open in fear and by the time he went crazy I just didn't give a damn about him. I'll never watch the series again, I'd rather watch something else.

FLCL gets my vote. I haven't seen all the episodes yet (something always gets in the way!) but it was good enough for me to get the DVD. It's a show that can be enjoyed in many ways. You can watch it to overanliyze or you can just enjoy it for what it is, just plane weirdness. I enjoyed the animation, the characters, and the music. Good for a series that was only 6 episodes.

As for Big O and Blue Gender. Blue Gender bored me, I only watched because Trigun was on after words. And Big O just didn't intrest me.

I base it on what series I would want to buy, and I've bought Big O Season 1, and whenever Big O Season 2 comes out, I'll buy that. Can't say that about FLCL.

FLCL, hands down one the best anime on adult swim this year, but second to all the comedy shows, Mission Hill, Oblongs, and Baby Blues excluded.
