I did a search on the "forum search" option and looked as far back as 6 pages, since I haven't been able to come here as much as I'd liked recently. So, I'm guessing this hasn't been discussed. If it has, I don't know why "search this forum" said there were no results. In which case, please point me to the correct thread.
Last night I went to Inuyasha's movie site and looked around to see if they had anything new to look at, since my Japanese is at 0%. I found a new trailer for the 3rd Inuyasha film. This being the third trailer.
find trailer here - it's the one that has a 3 (http://www.inuyasha-movie.com/trailer/index.html)
The trailer shows some new stuff. It has some J-Pop song in it too. What I found most interesting in the trailer was to see a glimpse of who I believe to be Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha's father. You see the back of this guy in armour and hair in ponytail. His armour is similar to the skeleton armour we see of their father in the show.
So, anyone here know enough Japanese to explain what's going on? Thanks to anyone who can. :)

Actually, all of the clips 1, 2, 3 and the unnumbered fourth link are previews for the third movie. The fourth one is the longest one, and actually shows more than IY and Sessy mixing it up.

...I hate you, WindowsMedia.
Why can't they have Quicktime versions like they did for Movie 2? /_\

Yup yup. The long trailer's been around for a month or so, so I've been picking it apart like crazy ever since ^_^.
Narration: "Inuyasha's Tetsusaiga. Sesshoumaru's Tenseiga. And then, the third sword that the father left: Sou'unga.
A sword sealed away: Sou'unga. However, after 700 years, it has been revived."
Takemaru: "This sword shall conquer the world!"
Shippou: "What's that?"
Narration: "The great father's inheritence has led the two brothers to begin their battle."
Inuyasha: "Father's sword will be mine!"
Sesshoumaru: "A greedy half-demon who doesn't even know his own father's face... should die! Someone like you could never use Sou'unga!"
Takemaru: "My slaves!"
Inuyasha: "I will not lose to him...
Shoot, Kagome!"
Kagome: "Look out!"
Narration: "Now revealed, the secret of Inuyasha's birth!"
Izayoi: "This child's name is... Inuyasha."
Sesshoumaru: "Father, is there still something you must protect?"
Narration: "The fated battle, the final showdown!" (text: "Inuyasha vs. Sesshoumaru")
Sesshoumaru: "Ultimate technique. Souryuuha!"
Inuyasha: "This is the end!"
Narration: "Inuyasha movie: 'The Sword of World Conquest'. Finally, it is settled!"
And then there's an ad for all the fun stuff you can get before the movie, like a poster and a cellphone game and a puzzle. Woo.
Oh, and in case you're confused, "Takemaru" is Setsuna no Takemaru, the original villain in this movie. "Izayoi" is Inuyasha's mother's name.

When's this movie coming out?
December 20th. In Japan.
The pop song reminds me of a remixed version of Opening #4 for some reason...
I dunno what it is, but the designs used for the movies is just plain ugly to me. I just don't like how the character's faces are drawn.

Hey thx for the heads up on the translations for the 3rd movie. It really gets my blood boiling. I so want to see the rest of the series faster than it's going now.
Im still in shock that the writer of the show is a woman. No offense. The show is so cool. I'd have to say, that right now, it's my favorite anime. Second to that would have to be Yu Yu Hakusho or Berserk (including the manga).
I know they are still releasing movies, but is the series still in production? Are they finished w/ the series?
Nope, the series is still going. They're around Episode 160 I believe. Somewhere around there.

I have noticed that in the IY movies, the characters are drawn differently...much sharper lines, character faces tend to be much more angular. Maybe they sub out the animation work to a different company or something. But you are right, there is a noticable difference in designs.
They dont strike me as ugly...but some thing is awry. Maybe because they use more high end CGI effects and animation and the budget only goes so far.

Patches, you are my hero! :D A month? :o Darn school keeping me away from the things I love.
The translation makes this sound so awesome! We finally get to know Inu's mother's real name. What did they mean by the "secret" of Inu's birth? Do they just mean it as: hey, now you get to find out! The Great Dog Demon? Sesshoumaru's secret's? Did their father have somethig else to protect? Is this Sou'unga going to protect both Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru? But then can it destroy the world? How does Takemaru fit in??? SO MANY THINGS TO ASK!!! [/end rant]
I think all the films have a different studio doing the animation. They do look a bit off some how. I dunno.
This sounds like a cool film. Since Inuyasha's run is comming to a close in Japan [is it true?], will this film be the last? If it is, I hope it goes up with a bang! ... Get it? Because it's the sword that can destroy the world, and they didn't have guns back there.... :o Nevermind.
None of the films have anything to do with what actually happens in Inuyasha, right?
AHH!!!!! *really wants to see the film*

Yeah, the character designs for the movies are slightly different from the TV series... which is slightly off from the manga. The TV series itself differs in character design from episode to episode, depending on who the animation director is (you might note that the designs in the new opening differ slightly from the actual series).

Ironic, considering the movie's theme, "Four Seasons", is performed by Namie Amuro, the person who does the seventh ending.
The series itself is still in production, yes. Episode 130 aired this past Monday, and manga chapter 335 came out on Wednesday, so the series has not ended in any way, shape, or form yet.

Well, not all movie information comes from the official site, so some of this has been hinted at in "alternate sources" (ie. magazines, TV spots, etc).
The "secret" of Inu's birth is likely just the story of how his parents met, and how his mother died. Yomiuri's movie site mentions something about the initial meeting between Izayoi and the yet-to-be-named Inu-daddy, so I'm assuming there's going to be something related to that in the movie.
As for Sesshoumaru's "secrets", a magazine article implied that he was seriously floored by the loss of his dad, which might explain his eternally sour attitude.
And Sou'unga... is not going to protect them ^_^*. It's defined as a "devil sword", which has this whole "evil aura" thing going on, similar to Toukijin. Why the hell daddy made this thing... I have no idea.
Setsuna no Takemaru hasn't really been dealt with, other than he's "the villain". It's kind of implied that he's someone raised from the dead, or perhaps raised the dead himself.
Regardless, dead are raised in this movie... which conveniently allows Izayoi and Inu-daddy to appear in real-time. ^_^*

Dunno. But I haven't heard anything about it coming to a close in Japan. Well, I've heard the rumor that the manga's ending in December and the series is ending in March, but that's not from a source I consider reliable, so it's still just sitting on the rumor shelf (for one thing, for the manga to finish in December, Takahashi's gonna have to wrap it up in ten chapters or less, which, considering what's going on currently in the story, is NOT going to happen).
None of the films have anything to do with what actually happens in Inuyasha, right?

The films are mostly glorified filler episodes. They don't "fit in" anywhere in the TV series, but do tend to assume plot knowledge up to a certain point. They also tend to come full-circle, in that nothing in the series is permanantly changed when the movies end. Of course, according to the voice actor interviews on the second movie DVD, there are going to be three character deaths in the third movie (though, with TWO swords floating around in this movie that can raise the dead, that's likely not going to be a permanant issue). There really wasn't any discussion as to who dies, but I'm kinda leaning towards implications of Rin and Jaken (it's either them or Sango and Miroku). The third death... I have no idea, because Kag, Inu, and Sess are all equally likely candidates for that position. But, like I said, no one's going to get killed off for good in the movie, since it does not affect the plotline of the TV series.

Patches, is there any chance the third movie might somehow be linked to the 1-hour Sesshomaru special episode that'll air sometime next month in Japan, the one titled "The Woman who Loved Sesshomaru"? Just curious, since both movie and this episode are pretty Fluffy-centric.
Oh, and, uh, an off-topic question, but you do know a lot about IY, so...is Episode 98(the one where Kikyou and Kagome were trapped in the same cave) a filler episode, or was it part of the manga?

"The Woman who Loved Sesshomaru" is IIRC just another episode of Inuyasha...cannon. The movies have at this point only tied to the series in terms of where the character development rests. And that particular ep should be nothing more than filler. Kinda like DBZ...to use a "ducking flying chair" example.

Actually, weird as it might sound, the special in question may indeed be linked to the movie, simply because Yomiuri's movie homepage has a section marked "Special" that currently has no content. But, uh... that's the only indication I have that it might tie in to the movie. Yes, the special is non-canon filler, but so is the movie, so you never know. They've never crossed the movies and TV series before, but that doesn't mean they won't start. Too bad we still know next to nothing about the actual content of this special. All I do know is that "Woman" is an original character (and I only know that because her voice actress was mentioned, and she wasn't a regular).

I see. *wishes she continued to study Japanese* I wonder what their fathers name will be. Inumaru? :p
As for Sesshoumaru's "secrets", a magazine article implied that he was seriously floored by the loss of his dad, which might explain his eternally sour attitude.
*hugs Sesshoumaru* I had a feeling their father's death had something to do with how he acts now.
And Sou'unga... is not going to protect them ^_^*. It's defined as a "devil sword", which has this whole "evil aura" thing going on, similar to Toukijin. Why the hell daddy made this thing... I have no idea.
Ahh! Yeah, that definetly won't protect them. Maybe daddy was having a "moment". What that moment was, who knows.
Setsuna no Takemaru hasn't really been dealt with, other than he's "the villain". It's kind of implied that he's someone raised from the dead, or perhaps raised the dead himself.

Does "Setsuna no Takemaru" mean anything exactly? Maybe it hints why he has that horn thing going on his head. Inuyasha: Hellraiser :anime: It's awesome to hear both Izayoi and Inu-daddy [hey, I ocassionally him that too! :)] will be there. Does that mean Sesshoumaru's mother is still alive? Eh, she's not important so they leave her out of this.

Hmm, smart idea. That way in the show/manga they can act as if the events of the movie never happened or aren't significant enough to mention. Does Takahashi have any say/input in the movies and what they can/not do?
Of course, according to the voice actor interviews on the second movie DVD, there are going to be three character deaths in the third movie (though, with TWO swords floating around in this movie that can raise the dead, that's likely not going to be a permanant issue).
Yeah, "Inuyasha:Hellraiser", defenitly.

Or maybe that something like that would happen to Sesshoumaru? and same thing if it's for Miroku & Sango. With Inuyasha, Kagome, and Sesshoumaru - I lean towards Kagome. Seems like a good way to have some character depth with Inuyasha. Maybe even in comparison to his feelings for Kikyo.
Wow! Thanks for all the info, Patches! This movie sounds even better! I can't wait till this eventually get to this side of the ocean. :D

.... No. And his name won't end in "maru", either, because he had kids ("maru", is practically a male Japanese equivalent to "Miss").
Does "Setsuna no Takemaru" mean anything exactly?
Er... yeah, but nothing that I can really put any meaning to. "Setsuna" has to do with time, or rather a specific instant in time. "Takemaru" simply means "brave", so... yeah, I really haven't the foggiest idea what his name implies. Kinda like "Sou'unga". It means "Stratus Fang". Sounds kinda cool... until you realize it doesn't mean anything ^_^*.
Does that mean Sesshoumaru's mother is still alive? Eh, she's not important so they leave her out of this.
Actually, I'm still hoping that the "Woman" in the special is that aforementioned person ^_^. Not likely, but... it would be cool if it was.
Hmm, smart idea. That way in the show/manga they can act as if the events of the movie never happened or aren't significant enough to mention. Does Takahashi have any say/input in the movies and what they can/not do?
I don't... know. She makes the movie posters, but I really have no idea how much input she has in the making of th movies. She's obviously not terribly involved in the TV series, since they've managed to seriously screw some things up in that department.
What kind of implications did they give? Was it like hint hint? Or maybe that something like that would happen to Sesshoumaru? and same thing if it's for Miroku & Sango. With Inuyasha, Kagome, and Sesshoumaru - I lean towards Kagome. Seems like a good way to have some character depth with Inuyasha. Maybe even in comparison to his feelings for Kikyo.
Well, basically, all implications come from the "Seiyuu Zadankai" track of the CD that came with movie 2. In it, they talked about "three hints" about the upcoming movie. The first hint was "Someone will die". The second hint was that Inu's parents would be in it, real-time. The third hint was "______ and _____ are also killed." Now, it's the manner in which Japanese does "blank" that made me assume either Rin and Jaken or Sango and Miroku. Basically, they say "maru" (circle) for each kanji or hiragana blanked out, and since the statement was "maru-maru to maru-maru ga bukkoroshiteita", that implies that we're gonna kill off a pair of characters with two-kanji names. Sango, Miroku, Rin, and Jaken all have two-character names. Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru, and Kagome all have three. Well, Shippou and Kirara and Naraku and Kikyou all have two-character names as well, but... I was just making an educated guess as to who the pair was.
Also, after this revelation in the interview, they went around the room asking, "So, what would you do if it's your character who got killed?"
Sesshoumaru: "I'd pick up a chick." (at least... I'm pretty sure that's what he said ^_^*. Everyone laughed, regardless). And then he followed it with, "Well, the hint's still really vague, so I'm not putting much thought into it."
Jaken: "I'm okay with it. I'd still have my staff with me."
Rin: "Aaah, now you've got me all worried about it!"
I dunno, I think Sesshoumaru's voice actor just has a lot of pent-up insanity that he lets loose whenever he's not supposed to be serious. He was certainly being a weirdo for the entirety of the interview. Jaken's actor's just a weirdo 24/7.

Well, those were some nice additions to the previous trailers. The villian, some undead guys, more fight scenes, and most important of all...supposedly Sesshomaru and Inu Yasha's father! Can't wait for some more development on the third movie.
