View Full Version : zoids: gimmicks or piloting

The whole concept of the fuzor series forces me to ask, what makes zoids great. The gimmicks or the piloting? In this new series, the fuzor's are the ultimate zoids now; moreover, zoids like beserk fury supposedly pale in comparison. Now if this were CC/GF(which i know it isn't)Van and or pilots would have used every strategy possible before upgrading to fuzor's. I can even accept Zero's CAS system over the fuzor crap.
Let's look at the berserk fury. It's supposed to be a powerful zoid by itself. Not once did i see the pilot initiate the CPG, not that he would have needed to if he used the full potential of his zoid. The previous episode they wasted time coming to a battle fused when it wasn't even needed. Then when RD came they were out of time. So far the pilots on both sides of the spectrums are idiots. So if we take a pilot from a zoid series like CC/GF would the results be different? Would Van or Raven struggle against a fuzor or would they triumph over them using their ingenuity?
This thread isn't about the commercial aspect of zoids. I know fuzors is just to sell more product. I'm asking as someone interested in the "zoid world" and piloting. So this thread is whoever likes to flex their creative muscles and think of the possiblities.

Hmm, interesting idea (I've been thinking about this lately actually).
I think that a CC/GF pilot would be able to defeat a Fuzor on the grounds that they are great pilots. They didn't need the "advanced technologies" to be great. Sure, some pilots (Van, Raven for example) had organoids, but remember Van progressed so far that he surpassed the level of his Blade Liger, therefore Zeke emerged with a new power that was able to hold the Blade Liger to Van's level of skill. The Raven's Genosauerer evolved to fit Raven's skill level. They were just great pilots, and would win probably on the fact that they fought real battles where usually the loser would end up dead or at least severely injured. They were pilots in a time of war, and had to kick up their skills to stay alive. I think that a pilot who just fights for the sake of fighting in a Zoid battle would be no match for a fighter with the experience of a Van or a Raven. Fighting in the time of war, a pilot has to be able to improvise, and CC pilots were good at that. They might struggle a little at first, learning about their opponent, but they wouldn't lose, due to the fact that they are just in a class of their own. I think battle experience is key, and the CC fighters have more and better experience in battles and wouldn't allow themselved to lose.
But hey, that's just my thoughts. It might be interesting to see. I'd pay to see Van and Bit face off:D

My sentiments exactly. The CC/GF pilots have enough experience where they can either figure out how to beat the fuzors, or outlast the the fusion. That's why the whole deal with the fusion bugs me. Even though i knew RD was gonna fuse, when he said that he didn't want to fuse i thought he was gonna show some skill and strategy. I guess i asked for too much. And we all know Raven would throw up if he saw the piloting of the beserk fury. That's the fusion that boggles my mind right there.

It's a case of the toy line bringing the show down.
The new line of Zoids are mostly those Z-Builders / Zoid Blox things, and the general intent behind those is that everything is modular and hey can be combined with each other as well as fitting on the random weapon mount points of the normal style Zoids. So now they have to build the new show to focus on the toy line's new gimmick, and even in the show it remains an obvious gimmick.
TF: Armada suffers the same problem. The Minicons make for great stuff as toys, but the execution of them as a basis for plot (in the cartoon at least) is largely crap.
It's still a bit early to judge Fuzors, but we already know that NC Zero was a downhill slide from CC/GF, so it's not unreasonable to think that the slide is continuing.

Even though this thread isn't about the commercial aspect of zoids, i totally agree with you. It's so obvious it isn't even funny.
But how do you think a CC/GF pilot would fare against a fuzor? Do you agree that they'd find a way? Or does you opinion differ?
To me it's like the made the fuzors to be the "end all" zoid. One hit and all of a sudden their down. They even beefed up a zoid that really doesn't need beefing up. Does it bother anyone else that even though liger zero fuzed it still has the same lame attack?

Well, when the Liger Zero had the Jager Armor from Zero, it's only real weapon was still the Strike Laser Claw (Which the dubbing companies can't even get correct anymore. It switches from "Laser Claw Attack" to "Strike Laser Claw" to "Strike Laser Claw Attack" to "Laser Claw Strike Attack" to...you get the point. Sheesh, it's starting to become another version of Sailor Venus's "Love-Me Chain").

See at least the good thing with Van is even though the blade attack was his primary weapan he had other ways of fighting offensively. Liger just seems to do a lot of dodging until it can do it's laser claw attack. i don't know why they chose liger zero again....the blade liger had more things it could do. Oh well.

Because Zoids/ZERO was more popular in America.

I'm sure Zoids CC would have pulled in better ratings If they hadn't kept screwing arround with the Schedule.
I STILL haven't seen a complete runthrough of Zoids CC/GF because of that.
while I've seen Zoids Zero too many times
and I'm afraid to watch anymore Fuzors.
I mean not to bring it down, But I've seen them get it Right with CC/GF
And I've seen them do OK with Zero. But this?
Fuzors is an Insult.

Darn that fact too. The least they could of done was add something to make liger zero more offensivley inclined. It's terrible that they keep talking about RD's skills and all he can do is run away. The one thing i loved about watching Van fight in GF was that he could bring out an offense from any position. Not only that he was creative in that aspect also. RD hasn't shown anything worth mentioning yet.

I totally agree about fuzor's being an insult. Even though the whole series hasn't been shown, the episodes that were shown haven't merited the viewer to keep watching. Unfortunatley i'm gonna continue to watch so that i don't miss anything, good or bad.

I suprised that you didn't metition that zoids are suppose to act like animals. In CC/GF the characters do treat their zoids like pets. In Zero, the characters treat them more like weapons. In Fuzors, it's back to treating Zoids like pets.

Well, Bit did treat Zero as a pet. Leena didn't have any respect for her D-Bison.

Plus Van was able to pilot more than one Zoid and did on more than one occassion, as well as all the other CC pilots. That was a cool thing about watching Van fight, he could improvise on the spot, and usually succeed in what he was doing.

I watched the first few episodes and couldn't keep any interest. There wasn't any plot and he fights weren't even impressive. I mean, I could tolerate ZERO, there was a little bit of a plot there, but the fights were really well done. I mean, if you don't have a plot, at least make up for it in the fights. Besides, I didn't really like the characters either. The characters of CC/GF are characters you can relate to and want to cheer for. The characters of ZERO were, well, they are better than Fuzor characters, I'll say that.

Yeah Van was great for that. I was hoping RD would be a prodigy too. Not even blake is measuring up. None of these pilot are really anything special. What's the name of that guy. The one that's not helmet and pilots the really slow zoid. Could they have picked a more awkward zoid for him? Geez, everytime he gets out there he gets shot down.

Yeah i'm feeling that too. The whole fuzor thing ruins the whole concept of zoid piloting. Oh i'm not good enough let's just fuze w/ another zoid as opposed to training to get better. Makes little to no sense. I mean i get the whole need to be more powerful thing. But actually take the time to become skillful w/ the zoid you have before adding another one to it. The writers should be shot so far. But hopefully they'll surprise me.

Yeah, I've noticed the inconsistency of that over all the series so far. Clearly the Zoids are supposed to be thinking machines, but most of the time they are only treated as we would our tanks and fighter planes. It seems they only tote out the "Zoids have a personality" thing when they've got a plot to use it.
Bit's Liger Zero was almost always shown as having a personality.
Irvine's Command Wolf only had a personality in that episode where they transplanted it into the Lightning Saix.

Command Wolf did have a personality. That of a normal dog, loyalty and determination.
