Today there's another new installment of Duck Dodgers (Order TBA):
Quarterback Chuck: Sounds like a football short. Can't wait for that.
To Love a Duck: This is the one that's been advertised in the commericals this week.
I'll be back later with thoughts AND VA's.
Enjoy.

"Quarterback Attack" was pretty funny. The slapstick, the jock being thrown back in time, the reference to Montana were all funny. Even Marvin's "Who's Your Daddy?" comment elicited a laugh. Once again, the now-overused Million $ Man sound effects return? Maybe I'm just watching too many Dexter's Lab episodes. :) But, where was the Eager Young Space Cadet? Rating: B+
"To Love a Duck" was better, especially the card game at the end. I could have sworn Dodgers would lose the final trial. The salty snacks bit were funny, and someone told me that salt helps you maintain your body moisture! Smart duck (or writers), eh? :) Rating: A
And, was that Dan Castellanetta's name in the credits that I spied? Hmm...

poor marvin.. he really got through the ringer through this week's duo of episodes.. first he went back in time and wound up ensuring duck dodgers would wind up a hero instead of a waterboy.
he should have taken that water, cause he would have needed it in the 2nd half, with him in the desert, and getting thirstier.. i wonder sometimes, though, since mars is much cooler than earth, was dodgers just a lot more comfortable? i bet 60 degrees in the shade on a martian desert isn't real hot.. just a incredible heat wave in comparison to the cold nights.. poor dodgers just kept on tormenting him with his salty foods and his sore feet in the water marvin found, so marvin couldn't get any ..
some grossness in this episode btw.. but good used grossness :)

Ah, fine episode. "Quarterback Chuck" was good; though the ending of "He wouldn't have done it without Marvin" was predictable, the events leading up to this were well done. The entire waterboy thing was great. Though I agree, a little Cadet would've been nice.
"To Love A Duck" was great, and the better of the two. All the "tests" were hilarious, especially the desert test ("Are you sure you don't want any pretzels? I feel like a pig here"). Nice ending, as well.
Also, both episodes used the Martian Queen character well. I like what they're doing with her so far.
I now introduce my new episode grading system, which I will use...when I feel like it.
Standards Grade (this is how the episode(s) was compared to the usual quality of the show; since Duck Dodgers is usually funny...): Par/Slightly Above Par
General Grade (more of a "pure enjoyment" grade, not holding it to DD standards): B+/A

The Football Game In The Past And The Trials Of Love In The Future In The Duck Dodgers "Quaterback Chuck"/"To Love A Duck" Episode Review.
"Quaterback Chuck"- You know, I think I've seen the "Character A tries so hard to prove a point to character B and ends up doing so but makes things worse" before, but not really that often. Anyway, this was the weaker segment of the two. Notice how Dodgers looked really content at being a waterboy until Martian Commander came along. I believe that not only did MC give Dodgers the strength and will to try and achieve and be the best he can be, but also his ego as well. Or at least the seeds for it anyway. Highlights include Martian Commander sending the real quaterback to the Battle of Custard, Dodgers trying to play football and MC actually helping him to win and then only realizing it at the end when talking to the queen. I give this segment a B+
"To Love A Duck"- You know what's odd? They've been setting up this plot point for a while. Ever since the Martian Queen first appeared to be exact (Well, actually her Second appearence in "The Trial of Duck Dodgers" actually, but still). The fact that the Martian Queen finds Dodgers to be an attractive and worthy adversary and wants to be with him. And now it's setting up here, as she asks Dodgers to be King of Mars, provided he passed the 3 tests. Intresting to note that he actually used a good amount of intellegence on that first test (defeating the Centalops by sticking that electric staff in it's ear saying it was a Q-Tip he was using to swab his ear gunk) and then not needing water or minding the heat on the 2nd test (and eating all those salty foods) and managing to find the right card in the 3rd test. Of course, you know he wouldn't be King, so Martian Commander pulls a guilibilty test on him and Dodgers fails and bolts out. Highlights include the opening scene, Dodgers calling the Cadet, Dodger's Goodbye to the queen and Martian getting the last laugh. I give this an A.
Overall: A-

Highlights of "Quarterback Duck" included Dodgers as a waterboy, and Dodgers' mom as inventor of the post-it note.
Out of 5, I give it 3.5.
Highlights of "To Love a Duck" included Cadet in the shower, DJ Dodgers, and Dodgers as a transient carnival worker.
Out of 5, I give it 4.
Next week looks good with "Pluto Nash."

quarterback quack: ( i swear it said quack on the show. i could be wrong but thats what it looked like to me) as said, the weakest of the two segments. gotta love irony though:)
best parts...
- dodgers loveing his place as waterboy ( or would he be called daffy at this time? or is dodgers his name i nthe series? he didn't seem confused when marvin called him duck dodgers so i suppose that could be it. aggh! over ratlionizeing!)
- the "h20" on his team shirt, which of course is the chemical form for water. yes, i'm a nerd:)
- " i was going to use this to dystroy you" "what?"
- marvin sending the quarterback back in time
- marvin yelling ' whos you daddy?"
btw joe, tell me what it's like haveing conversations with yourself. ( i ask this cause of all the dodgers just with marvin scenes)
to love a duck- i'm glad to know i'm the only who had the thought that the queen might like dodgers:) hee hee, i wonder what their kids would have looked like if marvin HADN'T tricked dodgers. luckily for the sake of the show he did. in anycase, on to the best parts!
-marvins " i give it a week" comment.
- dodgers catching cadet in the shower when hailing him
- useing the eletric staff as a q-tip on the Centalops
- the cword cheering when dodgers announced the Centalops was still alive ( who knew they cared? we need more of thease kind of guys at bull fighting rings)
- dodgers eating all the salty things in the dessert and putting his feet i nthe drinking water ( i STILL don't see how martains eat and drink)
- last commet reminded me, dodgers " no face" quote. ( i forgot the whole quote, stupid me)
- dodgers glider thing was cool! i want one!
- dodgers goodbye to the queen
not the best episodes of the season but still pretty good:)

last commet reminded me, dodgers " no face" quote. ( i forgot the whole quote, stupid me)
Dodgers To The Queen: "You know, I always thought you were a looker, for a woman with no face."
btw joe, tell me what it's like haveing conversations with yourself. ( i ask this cause of all the dodgers just with marvin scenes)
While I may be no professional voice actor, I know what talking to yourself is like: It's like talking to someone else, except you know exactly what they are going to say and there is no way to turn them off or run away, because they are you and follow you everywhere.
"This is just some lame excuse to complain about me, right?"
Oh shut up insanity!!!
"Thought so!"
You're getting me off topic!
"You were already off topic!"
Shut up!
"You said that already"
That does it!
(End conversation)
"I'm still here though."
Quiet!

Dodgers To The Queen: "You know, I always thought you were a looker, for a woman with no face."
I think the exact line was "I always thought you were quite a looker, for a chick without a face." or something like that. Maybe Joe can help us out with the correct wording. Right, Joe?
I think the reason Cadet wasn't in the QB episode was because he wasn't frozen. Cadet was born in the same generation as Marvin, not in DD's era.

YEAH, where WAS cadet??????? Eh-guh-geh-eh good question!!! Actually, he didn't fit into the storyline on this one. But I appreciate your concern for his well being!!

[QUOTE=fanficgoddess]btw joe, tell me what it's like haveing conversations with yourself. ( i ask this cause of all the dodgers just with marvin scenes)[QUOTE]
Well, it's sorta like this: We usually get storyboards in advance of the taping session, so I have some time to decide how I'd like to deliver each line. (Yet this is subject to possibly overriding changes & other suggestions by the directors, of course.)
Now if we record the characters in order, the conversational flow comes easily. But if we don't, and this will happen occasionally, I gotta use my fading memory banks. Naturally, I can't exactly recall which approach applied to this week's episode. Life is too short to remember all these details!!

 Hmph!! I wasn't finished...! Didn't even get to use the colors!! My "TAB" key suddenly changed functions on me & posted prematurely.
:daffy: "Thtupid machineth!!"
For once, I agree, Duck.
Anyway, DianaGohan, it's nice to know I'm not the only schizophrenic around here.
As for Cadet not being in this week's show as much as in others, imagine how Dr. I.Q. High feels!!
Seriously, though, I'm sure you realize the character balance changes from time to time for variety's sake.
DD himself only put in an "imaginary" appearance in "K-9 Caddy", remember?
:marvin: "Well, I certainly do!! Err-rr!!"
Betcha the Eager Young one will have a story or two all to himself eventually, as he deserves.
Lastly, wish me luck for this year's Annie awards. ASIFA has contacted my agent about a possible nomination for DD. (I daresay the show could scoop up quite a few, eh?)

Oh, & for the record,
the title of the 1st story is "Quarterback Quack"...
& the line from "To Love a Duck" is:
:daffy: "Y'know, I've always thought you were some looker -- for a chick without a face."

i wouldn't be surprized about getting nominated. this show is prehaps one of the only shows i look forward to all week. ( the same thing use to be with invader zim untill nick did that stupid move of canceling it. but thats getting off topic:) in any case, depending on what other shows are on the roster i can see "duck dodgers" possibly winning.

the line from "To Love a Duck" is:
:daffy: "Y'know, I've always thought you were some looker -- for a chick without a face."
Thanks, Joe! DD has so many great lines that it's hard to keep track of them all. I'm sure you have the same problem, but then again you have them written down so you get to double check to avoid errors.

Quarterback Quack- Highlights included,Dodgers listing his favorite types of water,"That's my spleen cracking."and Marvin's specch going into how Dodgers thrwats his plans and prevents him from getting a promotion. An B-.
To Love A Duck-The better of the two shorts IMO. Highlights included the grasshopper audience reaction to Dodgers,Cadet in the shower, the desert scene,"I give it a week.",and the Uranus methan scene. An A+.

You know, when it was first advertised, I didn't think I'd like this show. But after watching a few episodes, I really grew to like it. It's smart, funny, and just plain entertaining. I like how the Dodgers character was handled. At first, I thought he was going to be the typically arrogant, inept, glory hog who couldn't do anything without his sidekick. But he actually shows skill and intelligence sometimes. When a job needs doing, he does it. The cadet character is great as well. Taking down the bad guys while saying some great lines(buh-buh-bye bye bugy). It's a great show and definitely deserves some awards. And, uh,.....the Martian Queen is pretty hot....the end.
Finally found time to watch DD off my tape.
That was funny to find out that DD was the team waterboy and that whole water routine was great.
Interesting to hear the commander make the mistake of DD's mom inventing liquid paper.. sorta out of left field..
Great antics out on the football field. Typical Daffy.
I Saw a little more of the Cadet than I wanted to see.
Interesting idea having DD attempt to be the King of Mars, even though the end result was somewhat predictable.
Hilarious having the commander get demoted to "Palace slave boy."
Once DD was talking about ear wax on the monster guy, I had the idea he would use the staff as a Q-tip..
Great stuff having DD wanting water during the endurance trial, not for the heat but because he wanted to eat all those salty items.. and he still did.
Totally didn't expect that Methane farm in Uranus to be fake.. poor DD.
BTW: I liked the queens hair..
Overall an A. This was such a positive post, something I don't do too often but then again DD has just been so funny the last few weeks and furthers my reasoning that they should give other old time Looney Tunes characters their own shows because they can still be funny..

well, he did go about without pants (porky) in so many cartoons, even in the 30's of all things..
