In this age of technology many of the old superstitions and folklores have died out and those that remain are often scoffed at but all the same some hang on and we just can't seem to kick them.

So with Halloween just around the corner, do you have any superstitions, however slight? Some, such as walking under ladders are founded on common sense but others are stranger to nail down , you may in fact not even realise you have them, do you touch wood or throw salt over your shoulder? Do you count magpies or think black cats are unlucky? Many sports stars have strange superstitions with lucky shirts, even lucky underwear or have to perform a certain 'routine' before beginning to play.

My grandmother was very superstitious, if she saw the new moon through glass she would have to turn over all the silver coins in her purse, she also thought green an unlucky colour and a crow sitting on the roof of the house was a bad omen, along with crossed knives and cutting your hair on a Sunday.

Actually, I'm probably the opposite of superstitious In fact I HATE superstitions. When I was a kid I stepped on every crack on a sidewalk, walked under every ladder, I never felt bad about broken mirrors, considered every found coin valuable no matter heads up or down, liked 13 better than 7, and always wanted a black cat.

I still want a black cat.

It's not that I didn't believe in these things, in the back of my mind I always did have a little fear, I just hated believing in them.

:D I have one, he was born 31 Oct too. Someone told me that black cats are considered unlucky in the USA which is kind of strange as they're considered quite the opposite here.

I've always made a point of walking under ladders too

When I was younger, I had to have my entire soccer (football) uniform together at least 24 hours before game time. That included everything, even my spikes and the whities I'd be wearing, and everything had to be touching. My team went 12-0 that season. Believe what you want, but it happened.

Hell, yes.

Squeamish about the number 13, expect things to go wrong if I think a test is really easy or that things are going my way, or disastrously wrong if someone says "At least, it can't get any worse" or any of its variations.

I don't know if that makes me superstitious, but I figure I might as well play it on the safe side. ;)

Short answer: Yes I am :p

There are certain things that I am superstitous about, mostly spawning things from stories from my Native American heritage or other spiritual things... But things like walking under ladders? Nuh uh. :D

Though Ive always been kind of spooked about the whole seeing your doppleganger thing.. Dont ask me why

i used to be very superstitious. when i was younger, i always held my breath while driving past a graveyard, held my feet off the floor while driving over railroad tracks, never crossed the path of a black cat, never walked under ladders, and i tried not to break a mirror or any glass for that matter. i have never been superstitious of the number thirteen though because, after all, i was born on OCTOBER 13TH!!!

Exceptionally. Like Nightshade mentioned, I get terribly supersitious when someone mentions that things can't get any worse. I never say that things are going well for me, becasue they will then start to suck. Knock on wood when I wonder aloud about something bad happening. And a billion others.

Um... No ? Why bother fearing probability ? Any 'bad luck' would have to be consistent to actually be deemed such, and usually it isn't the same scenario repeating itself over and over again but various scenarios that could 'happen' to go that way. Besides, there is such a thing as a self-defeating prohpecy.

I have some slight superstitions about some numbers (espically ones like 13 and 31) but that's really it.

I have to kiss a girl before I write, or tell a girl I love them. Helps me write better, I know it's probably just my brain being stimulated but hey.

When I go out onto the softball field I won't step on the baselines:p And if I (or someone else) say's we're going to win I knock on wood:p Just little things like that.

I have a funny one... I currently working at a hospital, and to get to the parking structure, you can cross the "helipad" where they bring people via chopper. Anyway, I was walking with someone a couple weeks ago, and decided that I didn't feel right about crossing it, just in case a chopper needed to land. I was afraid I wasn't going to hear it or something... Weird huh?

Only slightly. Most people haven't even heard of some of the things that I think. It's probably because I come to conclusions about certain things or subjects and end up making my own superstitions. I beleive them though  . Other than that I don't care or even pay attention to the more traditional ones. The one I keep in mind is bad karma.
