Well, now Mac and PC users both have easy access to reasonably-priced digital music. Me, I'm happy this came out the week I get an iPod. I heard that packaged PC software sucks.

iTunes is great, you'll love it. I don't even use the Music Store, it's just a good program to keep track of all my mp3s.

And if you don't love it, I'll cut off your arms and legs with a chainsaw.

...I never kid.

I used it at work last year and loved it much, so it's good to finally have it on my own computer. So far no bugs...

Howdy,

Don't do it, man. I'm telling you. The iTunes Music Store is NOT actually a way to download music in a nice digital format legally. It's an INSIDIOUS PLOT devised by the Evil side of Steve Jobs to SUCK ALL THE MONEY OUT OF YOUR WALLET!!!!

You say to yourself, "Oh, I'll just check it out to see what the fuss is all about." 2 hours later, you're looking at 22MB of 100% legally downloaded music (composed mostly of the 2 cool songs from recent albums, minus all the dreck they make you pay $18 for in the stores) and about $872 on your credit card, and THAT'S only if you were smart enough to turn off "One-click ordering" before you went in (go to "Preferences" and pick "Music Store").

Pretty soon, you're buying a new iPod to carry all your new music (more money to Apple) and you're selling duplicated internal organs to support your on-line music habit. Your friends will shake their heads sadly, and say, "He used to e such a good boy (flip gender if appropriate). Another poor soul lost to the iTunes Music Store. WHEN WILL THE MADNESS END???!?!?!!"

All the while, EsoSJ is laughing in his Evil way, counting his filthy lucre, and planning the 10th Apple stock split in as many months...

Hey, wait a sec...I'm an Apple shareholder...

Ahem. Never mind all that. The iTunes Music Store is your FRIEND. You LIKE the iTunes Music Store. Come on in...every track's only 99 cents, and albums are 9.99. You know you want to. All the COOL kids are doing it. You don't want to be LEFT OUT, do you? It'll make you FEEEEEL good...

:)

As for iTunes itself, sadly, it has the best user interface of all music players available. I say sadly because the iTunes user interface is terrible, just not as terrible as the other music players.

You're kidding, right?

Texas Chainsaw Massacre'd!

anyway, I downloaded it, wasn't particularly impressed, uninstalled it.

Was I perhaps wrong to do so?

Uhhh... what about MusicMatch 8.1 and BuyMusic.com? They were doing the inexpensive (legal) music downloads thing before iTunes was available for Windows.

Well there would be the thing where I can't use those services because they detect IP to make sure you're in the US whereas iTunes just requires a US credit card billing address... :p

EDIT: anyway, I downloaded it, wasn't particularly impressed, uninstalled it.

This needs to be a haiku.

Karl installed iTunes.
Said, "Meh" and uninstalled it.
Was this, perhaps, wrong?

I just use it to make mp3's---but use SoundApp (freeware music playing/translating application for Macs, at least pre-OS X Macs) to play mp3's---iTunes is too sluggish IMO.

Who doesn't like the brushed metal interface...

Nice interface, but for what I plan to use it for, I can use Winamp just as well. Shoutcast has a broader selection for internet radio, and I can use Windows Media Player to rip CDs. I'm not going to use the store just yet, although the handy Audiobooks section looks intriguing. Maybe I'll get around to Ann Coulter's latest masterpice yet! http://forums.toonzone.net/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

In all, nice, but a bit unneccesary for my uses right now. Maybe if I had an iPod. Who wants to buy me one?

Well, since I mostly download Jpop or anime music with the occasional "other" I have no need or reason to download iTunes.

...the music store is just one small part of iTunes. I don't use the store and I don't intend to, but that doesn't stop the rest of iTunes from being awesome.
