Hey guys, I was wondering if there were any knowledgable folks out there that could help me with my computer issue at the moment. Every time I go to any search engine - MSN, Yahoo, Google, or whatever - I can't actually search for anything. No matter what I type in, it says that what I'm searching for can't be found.
Anyone know what can be done about this? I'd search for places online to help me out, but obviously, that isn't going to happen. :p

You can't reach those websites or you can't get any results back from a search?

Did you try clearing out your Temp Internet folders and Cookies....and history?
Sometimes those can do weird, insane, things to a computer when full to the max.
Other then that...thats a pretty odd problem.

That is wierd. I was going to suggest clearing cookies as well. Either that or restarting the computer. Computers & the net can be so wierd sometimes.

Both...Google's site doesn't even exist on my PC, and any other search engine exists but won't let me search. The only one that works right now is one my sister found called "Dogpile".
I'll try clearing the cookies as you guys suggested. I hope this works! Either way, thank you muchly. :)

If you're using IE, then go to 'tools', and click 'delete files' and 'delete cookies' under temporary internet files. Close your browser (or restart the computer) and try it again. It's worth a shot
There's nothing wrong with google right now for sure. I used it yesterday and this morning, and it worked fine. So it must be something on your computer settings that's stopping it.

I suggest you update your anti-virus software.
I suspect it's a trojan (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.qhosts.html) that is causing the problem.
The Qhost trojan will effect your DNS (web address) entry into the browser.

Heh, that sounds exactly like it, actually. My IE Browser homepage has been changing itself on its own a LOT lately, always heading to this horrible slow-loading Xupiter.com site. *SHUDDER* I'll click on the link and see what happens.
Thanks for the help once more, guys. :)

RZetlin didn't mention this, but on that site you can also go here (http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/home.asp?j=1&langid=ie&venid=sym&plfid=23&pkj=RLJOLROCYAREWTXLGIX) and check to see if you computer has had any viruses or any security leaks without having to download the latest anti-virus software. It's much quicker than having to go out and buying the latest copy of an anti-virus program (though buying an updated version is probably a good idea too). It helped me out alot for my old computer because of how outdated the virus software is on that computer.
Edit: If this site doesn't help you get rid of the Xupiter problem (which btw is really annoying since I've also had it on my old computer) then go and download a program called "Ad ware". I don't know the exact link for the download is, but try download.com (http://www.download.com), and you should be able to find a free copy of it there.

Try Spy Bot (http://spybot.eon.net.au/) as well--it's been described as "AdAware on Steroids"--it does what AdAware does, and then some (I think it's equivelant to the version of AdAware you buy, only Spy Bot is free).

It sounds that an client-side application hijacked the web-browser, preventing access to certain websites. Adaware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/) might be able to find something.
Also, if running Windows, is the HOSTS (http://www.accs-net.com/hosts/what_is_hosts.html) file ok?
Windows 95/98/ME: (c:\windows\)
Windows NT/2000/XP PRO: (c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\)
Windows XP HE: (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\)
The file should be able to open with notepad and the only active non# entry should be 127.0.0.1 localhost.

Heh...that might be it. Originally it was just a few search engines, but now, I can't even log on for more than five minutes without my web crashing. I would've suspected it was that Blaster Worm thing, but I still use Windows 98, and apparently we're unaffected. The only reason I'm on now is because I've snuck onto the computer at work.
I hope to get to the bottom of this soon. I'll keep trying all your ideas, guys. Thanks again.
