Yes, we all know that Scooby Doo's fake monsters are always some yahoo in a bedsheet/cheesy monster costume trying to scare people away from the abandoned gold mine sitting under a preschool, or something... but in honor of the spirit of Halloween (and so I can actually have something to discuss on here again, vs. the zillion threads about "Spike TV"'s pathetic cartoons/TMNT/Transformers/other shows I don't watch, my question is:which monster or monsters did you like the best?

Mine would include:
The Creeper ("Scooby Doo, Where Are You?")
Chickenstein, Velma's computer ("Pup Named Scooby Doo")

As a kid, also vaguely recall having liked the creature from 5000 A.D. (from "The Scooby Doo Show"), but haven't seen that one since I was a kid...

lessee, from the shows I'd nominate the "spooky space kook" from the episode of the same name, from the movies I'd definitely name the zombie island cat-people and the scariest thing of all: the giant demonic scrappy-doo from the live-action movie

Is that the guy in the spacesuit with the fish-bowl helmet, with a glowing skull and the high-pitched, shrieking laugh? If so, I second that motion.

Heck and I third it, the whoo-whoo noise in the background was bad enough the laugh was the icing on the cake.

I also like the Creeper oh, and the Witch Doctor from the original series, he scared me up pretty good back in the early 70s ^_^

Yo, post a picture. How are we supposed to know which character you're talking about?

My picks:

Mr. Hyde
http://home.earthlink.net/~srhughes/scooby/m69x17.jpg
He doesn't look like the average guy in a goofy monster suit, he looks like a hardcore serial killer or child molester. Scary stuff.

Space Kook
http://home.earthlink.net/~srhughes/scooby/m695.jpg
Despite the really lame name, this guy is also pretty spooky. His head is a friggin' skull!! And he laughs demonically and looks as if he might electrocute you if you touched him.

Hmmmm. Let's see.

Scooby-Doo Where Are You
Snowghost "That's Snow Ghost."
Mr. Hyde "Nowhere to Hyde"
Caveman "Scooby's Night With a Frozen Fright"

The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour
No-Face Zombie "The No Face Zombie Chase"
Gator Ghoul "The Gruesome Game of the Gator Ghoul"
Technicolor Phantoms "The Ghost of the Bad Humor Man" (Was that one really from the "Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour, or was that after the network dropped Dynomutt.")

The Scooby-Doo Show
Jaguaroo "Jeepers! It's the Jaguaroo!"

Scooby and Scrappy-Doo
Lady Vampire of the Bay "I left my Neck in San Fransisco"
Dragon Beast "The Demon of the Dugout" Definately, my favorite ep of that series.

A Pup Named Scooby Doo
Sludge Monster "The Sludge Monster from the Earth's Core"
Totem Pole Monster "The Story Stick"

Hmmm. There were so many more. I'll probably think of them later on.

Heh, I can't name anything past The Scooby Doo Show, so it's pretty limited:

Scooby Doo, Where Are You?: A tie. I thought the concept of a "Phantom Shadow" was wonderful, and loved the spooky design on it and its laugh. But the scariest would have to be the Spooky Space Kook. People have already mentioned his laugh, but what about that spaceship and its weird sound? Brrrrrrrr!

Scooby Doo Movies: Not a monster as such, but I loved the Chumley house in the ep where they met Don Adams. One surprise after another, especially the scene where the paintings grabbed and swallowed the fumigating machines. Okay, maybe that's because of have fond memories of the "Three Investigators" books (anyone remember those, or have I really dated myself?) and The Secret of Terror Castle ...

The Scooby Doo Show: I'll vote the 10,000 volt ghost, or whatever his number was. The Phantom Racer was another favorite of mine there.

I liked the villian in this weeks "What's New Scooby Doo?" Of corse I've always been fansicanted with vampires. And this one acutally looked somewhat scary.

For movie villians I'd go with Lena from "Scooby Doo on Zombie Island." As well as Ben Ravencroft from "Scooby Doo and the Witch's Ghost." Two other villians that were actually evil.

As for the classics, gotta go with The Creeper. Not a guy I whould want to run into on the street.

Hmm, my favorite Scooby Doo villian would have to be The Space Kook thing, even though the actual episode he appeared in was so boring. I also liked the Phantom of the Roller Disco (a 1979 Scrappy Doo episode with "The Gang"). Oh and don't forget the 10,000 volt phantom (1976 episodes).

And for fun, my list of hated Scooby Doo villians...

-The Minotaur (The Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show "with Shaggy Only")
-That villian from the 1983 episode "E-I-E-I-O". I'm sorry I can't remember his name... :(

The Roller Disco phantom was sort of cool (was there another vaguely-disco-related Scooby episode I'm not recalling?), along with the 10,000-volt phantom...

Least favorite Scooby villain might be that mechanical monkey from the lame episode "Scooby Doo 2000" (oh-so-futuristic, isn't it?) Plot: Scooby, Scrappy, and Shaggy as clockcleaners go into the future (by spinning on a clock dial "really" fast) and go into the future, where they spend six minutes running from a mechanical monkey at "Spacey's" department store, before heading home (via spinning around a pole "really" fast). Um, yeah, whatever. :-)

Actually, the Minotuar was from a Scooby and Scrappy episode with the whole gang (Lennie Weinrib voiced Scrappy there) unless you're referring to something else.

Are you sure? My memory of it is kinda crappy, but I kind of remember Scooby, Shaggy and Scrappy getting transported to Ancient Greece and having to escape from a half man, half horse (is that a Minotuar...I kind of forgot). The plot was a typical stupid plot from the Shaggy only episodes.

Aside from the monsters in "Zombie Island" and "Witch's Ghost", I never cared for any of Scooby's villains. Well the Space Kook did look kinda freaky...

That was the Centaur from the episode "Scooby's Escape From Atlantis".

Here's a description of the episode and a picture:

A storm at sea takes the three friends to the ancient city of Atlantis where they battle an evil centaur.

You might be right. I checked out the episode guide. You could be referring to the one from the All New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show. Daphne would have been in that one. Though, you could be referring to another earlier episode whith just Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy.

I definately remember one with the whole gang where there's a minatour. (That was one of the last eps in the original "Scooby and Scrappy" series) There might have been a few other minataur eps. I'll have to check on that again.

And we have a winnner!!! That's the episode and villian I was talking about. I forgot most of the plot, and I just remembered Shaggy, Scoob, and Scrappy being chased by a half man, half horse around old pillars, and stuff....so I just mistook the scenery for Ancient Greece instead of Atlantis. And what is a Centaur anyway, and why is it different from a Minotaur?

According to Dictionary.com:

A minotaur is: A monster who was half man and half bull, to whom young Athenian men and women were sacrificed in the Cretan labyrinth until Theseus killed him.

A centuar is: One of a race of monsters having the head, arms, and trunk of a man and the body and legs of a horse.

I think the major difference is that a minotaur is half man/half bull and a centaur is half man/half horse.

I'm not much of a fan, I love monsters but was always dissapointed that they were just humans in the original show :p

From the old series, my #1 favorite is definately tar monster. I enjoyed his appearance in cyber chase. I also like the space kook, the mantis, and the similar insect thing that was supposed to be from the future.

In the movies, I love the Grim Creeper from ghoul school. And he's real! Yay!

I really can't answer that, but I think I know what you're talking about now, though I don't recall seeing that episode. Maybe I'll read the description again.

I believe the Minotaur is traditionally represented as having the body of a man but the head of a bull. Centaurs are traditionally represented as a horse with the head, arms and trunk of a man basically sticking out of where the neck of the horse should be. When they are, it's pretty hard to mistake a centaur for a minotaur.

Back on topic, um ... I don't remember ever seeing these episodes.

To add a few more to my list:

Zombo the ghost clown ("A Pup Named Scooby Doo"). Liked one of his lines (after the kids discover his secret of how he could fly/he sneaks up on them unannounced): "good work, kids... and now---I'm gonna break every funny bone in your *bodies*!"

The Wax Phantom ("Scooby Doo Where Are You?", IIRC)

Think the creature from 5000 AD looked something like a red-colored Zorak (though I could be mistaken---been ages since I saw that episode).

I think I've seen that centaur/minotaur episode---about as good as, well, all those other episodes where Shaggy, Scrappy and Scooby run from real monsters for six minutes. And they say they never "ran into real monsters before" in "Zombie Island"'s promos... ;-)

Hmm...you guys seem to know a WHOLE lot more about Scooby Doo than I do, but, nonetheless...

From what I've seen, I liked Ironface, the Headless Spector, and Space Kook (he was the only Scooby Doo villain that actually scared the crap out of me as a kid). And I absolutely adored that hockey-style mollusk monster from "A Pup Named Scooby Doo"...

Yeah, he was one of my favorites too. I especially liked his reaction when Daphne gave him a "Monster Snack."
