Just like the title says what are some of the weirdest things you've ever seen on ebay. Whether theyre still there or but a memory.

don't have enough space here to tell the complete story behind this, so I will briefly go over it. Back in the early 1980's, while out metal detecting, I came across and old abandoned cemetery with the foundation of a homesite or Church or something nearby. While searching around the foundation, my detector indicated there was something in the ground close by the southwest corner of the foundation. After digging down about 2 feet my shovel struck a wooden box that had nearly rotted out. The metal hinges and hasp were about all that was left of it. I thought I had discovered a fortune! Boy, did that ever turn out to be wrong!! There were 2 jars and an old journal in the box. The jars had some strange writing and symbols on them. While getting the jars out of the ground, I dropped one and it broke. A black mist or something seeped out of it. I should have known something was wrong right then and covered the find back up but being young and foolish I didn't. I left the broken jar with what looked like a candle in it there where it fell and took the other one (see the pictures) and the old journal home. What I was able to read in the journal before the pages crumbled made the hair on the back of my neck stand up! That night, I had my first visit from what I can only describe as "The Black Thing". While lying in bed, this "thing" fell on me and it felt like I was being pushed down thru the bed and the floor, into a pit if you will! I struggled with it and managed to somehow escape its clutches. Since that time, I have been attacked twice more and both times the unopened jar was in the close vicinity. I and others have caught fleeting glimpses of a black shadowy thing out of the corners of our eyes as it would pass from one room to another. I finally talked to someone who is versed in these things and was told that the only way to rid myself of this thing was to pass the unopened jar on to someone else. Therefore, I am offering to you, if you dare, the "Ghost in the Jar". With it I am sure you will be getting the "Black Thing" also. If you are brave enough to want this, bid to your hearts desire! I am going to start the bidding at 99.00 and put a rather high reserve on it so only those with a real desire and want to will be able to purchase it! What you will recieve for your money is the jar pictured along with some of the original black and white photos depicted here and others. You will also recieve a complete written version of everything from the original finding of the jars and to the best of my recollection what was contained in the old journal. I will also tell you what I was able to find out about this from the person who told me to pass it on. Be advised that once you buy this it is yours and I will have nothing ever again to do with it! ALL SALES ARE FINAL! You must contact me within 24 hours of the close of the sale to make payment arrangements and to arrange for delivery which the buyer is liable for. This can NOT be shipped thru the Post Office. Either UPS or pay me to deliver it! Payment must be made within 7 days of the close of the auction. P.S. As to the photos running with this, please note the one with the what looks like figures in them at the cemetery. I discovered this after turning them in to be processed. I WAS ALONE AT THE CEMETERY THAT DAY! This too will be gone over in the written "Diary" which comes with the purchase. Remember, DON'T bid unless you are seriously wanting to own this as I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS ONCE THE TRANSACTION IS COMPLETE!
Anyway it ended up selling for $50,922  . Heres the original link, which is no longer existing http://bibo.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2931457201&bibo=2 .

Howdy,

I remember an auction a while ago that was for the seller to come over and beat you up (the exact auction was for a "kicking" of the posterior part of your anatomy). I think the buyer had to pay for air fare, too.

Back when some charity was auctioning off lunch with Warren Buffett, some copycats started auctioning off lunches with themselves as well (one anti-Buffett ranting about how unfair the markets were and one woman who just said she was looking for a date).

Recently, in response to the "George Bush Aviator Action Figure," someone was auctioning off a "Real-Life Texas Air National Guard George Bush" figure, from his stint in that organization during the Vietnam War. Complete and historically accurate to the last detail. (http://www.straightdope.com/columns/030411.html) It was an empty box, with all proceeds of the auction to go to the Democratic National Committee. Not sure which monetary transaction there was a bigger waste of money, personally.

I also recall seeing an auction for a blank sheet of paper with a thumbtack hole in the upper-left corner. The seller started to panic when bids broke $1000 or so.

The strangest thing I personally have sold on eBay was a Korean ceramic bolo tie, for the Korean cowboys amongst you or just the Korean cowboys at heart. The funny part was that I listed it initially in the "Bolo ties" category (yes, there's an entire category of a few thousand entries of nothing but bolo ties), with no hits. Second time around, I scored two bids in as many days by listing it in the Weird Stuff (http://listings.ebay.com/pool3/plistings/list/all/category1466/index.html?from=R4) category (Slightly Unusual (http://listings.ebay.com/pool3/plistings/list/all/category1467/index.html?from=R4) sub-category, as opposed to the Really Weird (http://listings.ebay.com/pool3/plistings/list/all/category1468/index.html?from=R4) or Totally Bizarre (http://listings.ebay.com/pool3/plistings/list/all/category1469/index.html?from=R4) sub-categories). I suspect those categories are great places to see weird stuff if you've got a lot of time on your hands.

There's also a book I've seen around (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0789306808/qid=1063820272/sr=1-14/ref=sr_1_14/102-3054034-1361728?v=glance&s=books) with 101 weird eBay listings and the stories behind them. The only one I remember is the auction that sold one muddy boot.

I heard about some one who sold nothing for like 15 bucks. No gimmicks, the guy was selling absolutely nothing and didn't try to hide that fact. I don't have any proof that this is true though. :p

A while ago I saw an action for a folder....you know, a folder on a computer, not a real life folder. Just an empty folder named 'New Folder'. I think the current bid was a few hundred when I looked at the auction...I should try selling stuff like that on ebay, it could be a great way to rake in the dough. :D

The weirdest one I saw was linked off of portal of evil. Basically some guy was selling a "virtual girlfriend". Not a computer thing. Basically you got some lipstick, girly underwear, and other feminine items. You were supposed to spread them around your apartment to show that you had a girlfriend.

Yeah it's what happens when an article gets posted on Fark. Everyone makes fake bids and throws the auction off. Normally stuff gets in the millions. They didn;t make the money, the auction just gets turned down and no one pays.

Ah, there's a sucker born every dial-up. :)

The funny thing is, the first several strange eBay auctions, when the website just became popular, were from strange people who honest to God wanted to sell what they were selling, if only to find the suckers among us. However, once the first few sets of strange auctions caught wind, there were many people who thought they could be more outrageous than that; and thus began the eBay pranksters. Now there are people who put strange and out-of-this-world stuff on eBay for fun just to see what kind of responses they get.

:p
