Fresh Question May 2001: Superman in the Justice League

Hey everyone,

What a great way to start off our boards, huh? Well, a new thing I'd like to do with the FQ's is get suggestions (via email) from our regular posters about which questions they'd like to see. I hope to mix these in with the ones that myself and the mods come up with. The first Fresh Question for the new boards is:

Do you think that Superman will make an adequate, trusted leader -- given the incident in "Legacy"?

But they've said on numerous occasions that Batman Beyond and Justice League are on a different time and different continuity.

There is no question that Superman has leadership skills. As for the question of him going rogue...well, you can ask that of any leader, and one with super powers would be ten times the threat of a normal man gone around the bend. In both "Legacy" and "The Call", Superman wasn't himself; he was controlled by outside forces. You could ask this of any one of them, really. Ironically the villian might not even go for the leader, thinking it would be too expected, but instead use a minor JL-er no one would bother to suspect. Suppose, for example, Snapper Carr were brainwashed and let loose in the JL fortress with orders to kill anything in spandex that moved.
As for "The Call", as I've said before, Lex Luthor would sell his soul for a Starro. For years he sought to control or crush the Man of Steel, and ultimately a brainless echinoderm did what his vast resources and millions of dollars couldn't. The irony smiley-- :p

Yeah... at least, they have got to mention the events that occured in Legacy . I must say Timm's latest interview disappointed me a little... he said something like "sure, there's some sort of continuity, but hey, who gives a damn!"... well I do.

I agree. Given that Superman was a traitor in both "Legacy" and "The Call", I doubt he'll turn rogue again. Not just because the villain wouldn't wanna go after the obvious target, but just because it would be sloppy storytelling on the writers' part. I mean, how many times can we see this same scenario?
He'll make a trustworthy leader, or at least he better.

Well, remember that the rest of the Superman episodes we were supposed to get after Legacy concerned Supes trying to rebuild his shattered reputation. Presumably, by the time JLA rolls around he's been able to do so, at least to a significant extent. Also, being the leader of a group of respected superheroes couldn't hurt.

If he went rouge again it'd have to be of his own will...which most likely won't happen but who knows?....since I don't think they would want to keep on having Supes go rouge 'cause he's under the control of an alien...that'd be dorky to have him fall under alien control so many times.

It'd be cool if they had Legacy in the continuity....we'd get to see the result of his actions and how people viewed him after a while. He's obviously the leader type and most likely will lead well if the people trust him once more(given Legacy is part of it).

Personally I think they'll keep in Legacy just because they really seem to want to use Darksied, and as Timm has said the earliest we can expect to see him would be in season 2.


The way I see it, given the way some of the characters have been described (GL seeing himself as the "experienced cop among a group of rookies," the cocky Flash, WW the warrior woman in a "mans world," and of course we all know how Batman and Superman tend to get along) I'm going to have to say that either Superman is going to start out as the leader and have to prove it or the JL will start out with no official leader and Supes will rise out of the ranks, so to speak.

Sure Supes has the skills. I don't think Batman would like to be lead by him, but that's just because of his personality, not because of what happened in LEGACY, imo.

Superman can without a doubt lead The League but the trust factor will be interesting especially if the events of "Legacy" come into play during the season that would add some nice tension.

Hey:

I think that Superman will be a great leader, because the incident in the episode "Legacy" Superman was framed by Darksied. But with the writers of the show you never know what they'll think of. What ever the writers will do and what ever surprises they have up there sleaves I'll surely be surprised, cause I can't wait for this show.

Of course Superman would make a great leader -- IF the others trusted him. Perhaps if the writers leave Legacy in continuity, this would make for an interesting arc for the first handful of episodes.

The lack of another season of Superman (and thus a follow-up to the events of Legacy) always disappointed me. Hopefully, JLA can rectify this.

:o I think he still makes a great leader because of the hero he is. Even though he will have the unfourtunite inccident in the future this has not happened yet and shouldn't effect his current leadership. The real interest here is that Bruce mentioned that Superman has gone rouge before, hence Batman aquiring a piece of Krptonite. I hope this story is covered.

Well, out of all the members, Superman is best fit for the leader role (it's just somthing about him). As for how "Legacy" would affect this, I think JLA will take place afterwords, when he's regained everyone's trust. All I hope is that they keep in some tension between Supes and Bats. I couls see Batman not wanting to follow his orders.:rolleyes:

He is best suited becuase he's just so...well..amazing. His personality and his powers just enforce that legend-like myth around him. He seems trust-worthy in everyway, no matter what wrongs he did.
