Alright, we've had a thread devolve into a flame war, so I'm going to play Mr. Hardass and lay down the law here.

You may express your own opinions on the denizens of other boards, particularly the AS.com board. It's funny to do so, and even Williams Street recognizes that it is comedy gold.

BUT. In cases of where there is major flaming of AS, or the TZ forums and the way we do things here, just leave it be. Don't acknowledge it publicly, don't trash that board here. You don't know who's looking at what gets posted here, and it could lead to situations like what we had today. I know the temptation is really big, but for the sake of the board in general, keep it in private and don't make a big deal about it. They WANT a rise out of you guys. Do not give them what they want.

And I don't think anything has to be said about forum invasions and e-mail flaming.

I'll be watching these threads closely. If you have any questions, ask 'em here. I'll be here to respond.

Your avatar adds a cartain authority to your words.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way too.

I agree with what you've said and frankly that's been my personal policy for a long time. I sort of violated it in the thread that started all of this, I am, thus, appropriately reticent.

What I'm wondering about is how we're going to handle backlash from such forums. Namely their members coming here and being, shall we say, incoherently indignant. My policy is to completely ignore their existence unless they are adding things worth discussing to a thread.

It is hard to argue with Dr. Phil. Isn't it?

I would like to apologize to Matt Wilson and the whole Adult Swim Toonzone forum for starting the topic. I had accidently found that site, and I didn't really know what it was. I posted a thread to see if anyone else knew about it, and inadvertantly started a flame war. I didnt mean for this to happen and in retrospect, it would have been smarter not to post about it at all.

I guess I should've stopped posting I'm sorry.

And I also would like to add on that if you get involved of this flamming issue on that topic, just ginore it and get off of it so you do not get into troble and stuff.

I'm glad I didn't post in that topic, also Matthew Williams' avatar kinda looks like Will Ferrel from SNL.

I leave for a few days and I miss the good stuff. However, I've been present for flame wars before, where posters would go to the other board and threaten, insult or hack the board. Those things can get ugly and I promise I won't be a part of them here.

Yeah, these flame wars seem suprisingly different from most I've seen (and experianced) before. It seemed a little more subtle

In either case, I agree with your point and I hope it doesnt happen again.

Nah, Oprah's married to some black guy who I can't recall but he's semi-famous. Just wanted to make it clear that those were OTHER boards where the flame wars took place, not Toonzone. Toonzone has really impressed me with the quality of it's posters since I started coming here regularly.

I have a feeling that the next day or so may be a bit messy here. And you guys brought it on yourself. There was no reason a thread like that should have stayed open for as long as it did. I think any problems that may occur as a result of this should remind people that these kinds of discussions are never, in any way, constructive.

Yea, it is pretty fun....

...until you get banned. Not that it matters anymore. Matt Williams took care of this before it really becomes ugly and turns into a real flame war (yes, that thread was in it's early stage of flame wars).

Seriously, leave those guys alone.

Thanks for being understanding.

A comment: is my avatar REALLY that imposing? I always thought of it as a comedic thing, myself... guess I'll be keeping it for good then.

What happens if a perfectly good thread gets bogged down with FlameBait? will the thread with perfectly normal discuyssion be ended abruptly and closed to stop the ensuing war? or would it possible to dlete said offending posts and continue.

I just don't like seeing some threads go cuz some idiots decide to ruin it for everyone else.

Wow, that topic really delved straght into hell, but it's not something I'm surprised at. It's happened before and always because of a lack of humor. Why can't we all just laugh and have a good sense a humor about it? Is it really that hard? I found those articles funny, and sometimes a little true, nothing more. I think I'll leave it at that.

When I came back to the board and saw this post, I knew immediately which thread had broken down. I'm happy we've got the good moderators to shut the thing down and I think (hope?) eveyone'll relax from here on out. Yay for peace and quiet.

Why can't we all just laugh and have a good sense a humor about it? Is it really that hard? That's exactley what I tried to do if you'd noticed, actually that's what I did do, but you know how it is with guys like that. I have a friend who's like that guy, I tell him repeaditly just settledown man, but you really can't calm those kind of people down I suppose.

I read the posts that led to people being banned. Unfortunately, we get a lot of people like that at Science Fiction sites, too. I wish that people would stop stereotyping Anime & SF fans. <sigh>
