Yeah, this is the first episode.
It's on right now (it started at 8PM).

This is one of the two season 1 episodes that I actually like, because in my opinion:
Battle City > Duelist Kingdom. All day.
Take that, Pegasus, you pansy.

I'd have to agree, but Duelist Kingdom is a good introduction period (it shows people the characters, the basics of the game, and gets people ready for Battle City)
of course, after watching it a couple dozen times on KWB, it's kind of beat.

For the first episode of an anime, it really goes straight into the action. I imagine there were "slower" scenes taken out?

it would be better if they showed the original series first to answer your questions, but that's just too boring. No card game to mass market off of. -_-

Yes, but then instead we get crazed virtual pets, puzzles, and Zombire costumes to market off of. It's kind of a double-edge.
>_>

Nobody saw that.

Yes, but showing the first series would confuse people even more. It was made my Toei, focusing on the first chapters, then it got canceled. Years later, Soft X made a new show that focused on the later chapters. However, this show had barely anything to do with the original. Events happen differently (Kaiba and Yugi's first duel, Shadi's intro, Bakura appearing...) Besides the first episode and a few flashbacks, it's as if the first series never happened.

The first series wasn't "taken out". It's not like skipping "Dragon Ball" and going straight to "Dragon Ball Z". It's more like showing "Bubble Gum Crisis Tokyo 2040" but not the original "Bubble Gum Crisis". They are like alternate universes. The people who worked on "Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Monsters" just decided not to recreate the first chapters that were in the original series and skip right to Duelist Kingdom.
...Anyway, a little late in reviewing, but I finally saw the first episode of this series! I didn't think it was too bad, but I've seen better episodes. Still like the manga better, even though it's gonna take forever to get this far...
"Heart of the Cards" gets a B+

Nope, the first episode only has one tiny video edit. (Exodia came out of a Wicca symbol)
